In our prison world there are several castes, that is, groups of prisoners of different "dignity". There are four main castes, and there can be much more intermediate castes in each zone (by the way, among the convicts, this is exactly what they say: in prison, in the zone).

The first, highest caste - thieves; the second, the most numerous - men; the third, more or less large (depending on the zone) - goats; fourth, lower - roosters, outcasts. I don’t know if the outcasts can be considered a separate caste, but this is already an academic question. And we will assume that there are four castes. Let's start at the top.

Thieves.

They don't call themselves that. They replace the word “thieves” with “brothers”, “prisoners”, “tramps”, “tramps”, “crooks”, “travelers”, and half a century ago they called themselves “zhigans”, “people” .. These are professional criminals. Prisons and camps for them are obligatory stages of their professional career. Our underworld is a special world, it is very difficult for an outsider to get there, almost impossible. To commit a crime, the most professional one - to rob a bank, for example - does not mean to be accepted into this world. Any, even an accidental attitude to the structures of power, its political institutions (for example, membership in a party or in the Komsomol) forever closes the road to the “thieves' world” for a person, no matter how professional a criminal he later becomes. In addition to the “clean profile”, the thieves candidate must adhere to the “correct concepts”, over time these concepts also change (we will talk about this later). The elite of the underworld - thieves in law. This is not necessarily the name of those who earn their living by stealing. These are rather informal leaders, a kind of “initiates”, recognized by well-known authorities and received their recommendation, elected as “full members” at a gathering (at a “gangway”) of all thieves in a given prison, camp or region. According to various estimates, now there are only a few hundred thieves in law in the territory of the former Soviet Union. They are grouped into several groups.

If there is no real thief in the zone, the thieves' world tries to send a "watcher" there, that is, its representative, who will make sure that the convicts comply with the thieves' law and thieves' orders. Thieves' orders are usually a new rule created as a result of some dispute between convicts, or as a response to a new MIA action. From orders, the unwritten prison law continues to be constantly drawn up. The will of the beholder for other prisoners is the same law as the will of a thief. The beholder or the thief is surrounded by a group of helpers. This is the highest caste in the camp - thieves. Of course, in some camp there may not be a real thief or beholder. But in every camp there are people who consider themselves professionals, the prison is their home, and all its other inhabitants are aliens.

In the caste of thieves there is the main one - "godfather", "authority". Under the godfather - something like a presidential team, several thieves, each of whom does his own thing: one looks after the peasants, the other - for the "common fund" (this is the name of the general prison treasury), the third - for something else. They can also be called "authorities". The godfather and his entourage have a guard - "athletes", "fighters", "gladiators".

Not every prisoner can become a thug. First of all, he must be pure in the free life. Previously, for example, the path to the highest caste was closed to those who served in the army, who at least once went to work in the zone. Now these requirements have been abolished in some places. And in some zones, thieves can go to work - in that case, however, if this is not work as a foreman, contractor, etc., that is, if it does not give him at least some official power over the rest. Those who worked in the service sector, that is, were a waiter, a taxi driver, cannot become thieves. Former bosses too. There are still a lot of other requirements for applicants for the status of a thug. Each zone may have its own specific requirements.

Blatnye is real power in some zones, a power that is fighting against the official power, that is, with the administration of the zone. In addition to power, thieves have privileges - the right not to work, the right to keep everything they see fit from the common fund. The thieves also have responsibilities. The right godfather is obliged to ensure that the zone "warms up", that is, it receives food, tea, tobacco, vodka, and clothes through illegal means. He is also obliged to resolve disputes that arise between other prisoners, and in general not to allow any skirmishes between them, to ensure that no one is unjustly punished, offended, deprived. All this does not mean, of course, that for the godfather the correct order in the zone is more important than personal benefits. Often his concern for the lads is just an excuse to crush her and row everything for himself. But there are also enough zones where the godfather does not get out of the ShIZO (penalty isolator) and spends the entire term on bread and water so that the lads live peacefully and not starving.

Those who adhere to the correct concepts in the zone or in prison, the prison law, the administration calls denial, denial. Not only thieves get here, but everyone who actively resists the administration. It happens that a person simply fell out of favor with the detachment officer (the head of the detachment), refused the left work that he was forced to do. In general, the case here also means a lot.

Article 1883 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR - “Malicious disobedience to the lawful requirements of the administration of the ITU” was also invented especially for the denial. This article is Andropov's, introduced in 1983. According to it, a person could be endlessly added to a term from one to five years. Many have been spun around. Now there is no such article in the criminal legislation. Article 321 of the Criminal Code Russian Federation is called “Disruption of the normal activities of institutions that ensure isolation from society”, but it refers to violence or the threat of violence against prison staff or other prisoners.

There are also zones where thieves work together with the administration, more precisely, with the operational unit. Sometimes special “gaskets” are made - the newly arrived authoritative thieves opers are talked into cooperation and begin to help him in everything, the former thieves are discredited or removed from the zone, and the new “watcher” is assisted (naturally, behind the scenes). He becomes the main one, everything rolls for him: vodka, marijuana, tea, smoking. And for this, he brings to the zone the order that the administration needs.

It is this type of thieves that is now most common in the zones. The underworld has changed no less than the big world. Once upon a time, thieves could not have documents, sign papers, get married, go to work in the camp. Today, the underworld is actively involved in business and politics. How can you manage without papers in business? What is a politician without a family, that is, without hostages? Tumbleweed, no one will believe him ... Starting from about the 70s, the honorary, for the underworld, title of thief in law began to be bought and, more importantly, sold. There was even a name for such newly appeared thieves in law - “oranges”. These people, in general, are no longer as ideological as the former thieves. Those used to die, went to the fires, but refused to kiss the knife to the bitch (there was such a way of squeezing during bitch war). Honor and respect is also a great value. Well, then concrete things began to be respected - money, the ability to make money. Mores have changed in the underworld - they have changed in prison.

Guys

This is the next cast. It consists of random, in general, people in the zone. The wife jailed one for drinking, the other stole some trifle, he is in jail for a fight, and this one was sewn up - he got under the arm. After all, in general, from fifty to ninety percent of convicts in our country are people who would simply be fined in some Western country, and that's it. There, after all, prisons only bring losses, but in our country they have been profitable for many years, that's the whole point. This is only if you consider legal profit. And how the camp administration profited in the zones, and its bosses, and the mafia, and the same freemen who go to work in the camps, and those who live near the camps - it’s better not to tell.

Today, the camps in Russia also bring mostly losses, unemployment there is cleaner than in the wild. Slave labor could replace free labor only when relatively simple things were done in the wild that did not require initiative, creative imagination. These times have passed - only those who react instantly survive in the market. But our criminal justice system continues to live by the inertia of the Gulag times. And many people are still imprisoned in vain, to the detriment of them, and society, and the victims, whom they cannot even compensate for the damage - unemployment. These people form the caste of men.

The men do not claim any power in the zone, they do not serve anyone, they do not cooperate with the administration. They cannot interfere in the affairs of the thieves. The men do not have the right to vote in their "showdowns". But there are, of course, respected people among them, to whom the thieves listen, not to mention the rest of the peasants. In a word, men are prisoners who are going to return to normal life after serving their term.

Goats

These are open employees of the camp administration. Those who agreed to accept some position - supply manager, head of the club, librarian, commandant of the zone. Those who put on "jambs" - an armband. Those who joined the SPP - the "offense prevention section", that is, the internal police of the camp. They are also called "bitches". "Suchenny" - agreed to work for the cops. The administration calls the goats "an asset", "persons who have firmly embarked on the path of correction." Of course, the convicts treat them badly. Traitors are treated badly everywhere, and if you consider that in each zone there is a war going on between the administration and prisoners - sometimes "cold", sometimes real - such an attitude will become clear.

They get into the goats in different ways: some of their own free will, someone will be forced, someone will be intimidated. In some zones, the arrived stage is generally given padded jackets with already sewn bandages. You put on - you get bored. If you don't put it on, if you rip off the bandage, they will put you in a punishment cell, and upon leaving you will receive the same padded jacket, the same offer, and the same punishment cell for refusing. And so many months in a row. Some endure - through hunger, through tuberculosis. Well, if you can’t stand it, you will become a goat. You will do the same as all the goats - to be on duty at the checkpoint between the "lokalki" - fences inside the zone, or between the "housing" and "industrial" - the residential and industrial parts of the zone. You will be "godfather", the head of the operational unit, the same convicts as yourself, to hand over. And even if you do not enroll in the SPP, but you will, for example, work in the library, you are still a goat, and the lads will not accept you. In the zone, there is no upward movement at all, from the lower caste to the higher one.

You can greet the goats, communicate with them, touch them, but they are not allowed into the common fund. In the camps, by the way, there is such a legend: there is a secret order according to which, in the event of war, all goats must be shot as potential traitors. But this, of course, is only a legend. Although during the war the German punitive detachments were not made up of army soldiers and not even always of the SS, but primarily of the policemen. The Germans were not so insane as to corrupt their army with such deeds.

Roosters

The last caste is COCKS, they are also "offended", "lowered", "faggots" and so on. This is a caste of outcasts, untouchables, outcasts, among them are passive homosexuals. At the same level in the zone there is an intermediate caste - "pigs", "devils". The only difference is that they are not used as passive buggers - they are simply untouchables.

Homosexuality has always existed in prisons, it was, as a rule, a voluntary matter. But from some time - according to some reports, from the reform of the "corrective labor" system of 1961 - a custom began to spread in the zones: punishment in the form of forcible conversion of the guilty into a pederast. Some veterans of the Gulag believe that this custom was invented by the opera - it became their weapon in the fight against the negative. There is a similar custom among some backward tribes in Africa - there, boys who did not stand the test of initiation into men are called female names, dressed in women's clothes and resettled in the backyards of the camp. That is, they make them as if they were not men. This is also found in some species of monkeys - the leader of the pack, as a sign of victory over the delinquent male, rapes him.

In the right terms, there is a law: "x ... m do not punish." That is, the prison law expressly forbids punishing anyone in this way. But you can't drop it.

I have already said that the omitted appeared in the community of prisoners after the reform of 1961. Before this reform, there was one type of camp for all prisoners. The reform divided the camps into regimes: general, reinforced, strict, special. As a result, the first-timers, who were sent to general regime camps, were separated from the repeat offenders. Those ended up in other regimes - so that the pioneers "do not have a bad influence." Thus, the pioneers were also separated from the experience of forced cohabitation developed by many generations, which the recidivists, among other things, owned. This experience made it possible (we are talking about the second half of the fifties) at the very least, but to live in peace. In the former camps, moreover, people of all ages were imprisoned. And the struggle for supremacy there was to some extent mitigated by the existence a large number elderly and old people. Of course, they could not be afraid and not respected, but still there are things that people do not do or try not to do in the presence of elders - this sits in every person. And now imagine: hordes of young men (and pioneers, as a rule, people of the same age, 20-22 years old), whom nature itself doomed to constant competition and finding out who is more important, stronger, smarter. Naturally, there will always be a squabble between them, since they cannot at least for a while disperse, relax, communicate with those with whom it makes no sense to compete - with old people, women, children. By the way, things are even worse at a youngster precisely because there are no elders there. Even the prison administration understands this and put young "father" - an adult prisoner - into the cells. And these "bati", it happens, rob youngsters, which is why the position of "bati" is considered to be mowing.

Most of all people are lowered in areas for youngsters, that is, where they do not know the prison law, albeit terrible and cruel, but the only one under which people can remain people, and simply survive. After a youngster, prisons give the most omitted. For the same reason that they arrange a residence permit - they think that this is how it should be. In the camps, they are lowered much less frequently than in prisons. The tougher the regime, the less often. In general, the harder the regime in the camp, the easier it is for those who sit in it.

They say it's better to die than to become a "cock". They treat them very cruelly: they force them to live in trees, eat mice, put light bulbs up their asses - whoever is into it. But again, it depends on the mode. They do the wildest things with them on a general basis, not to mention the youngster. Here on the strict it is easier for them. Every prisoner knows his place there. Usually on a strict regime, and indeed in any correct zone, a cock is just a rejected person. He has everything separate, and he does not dare to touch anyone. It is believed that in such a situation, neither the things that passed through the hands of the rooster, nor the one who received them, are "stained", that is, they are not defiled.

On the prison regime, in a colony of special and strict regime, as a rule, there are not many roosters - from one to five percent. On the enhanced and general regime, their share can reach up to 10-12%, and on the youngster - up to 20. The milder the regime, the more of them. In some zones there are their whole barracks - "monkeys", "offended". And in normal zones, they just sleep at the entrance to the barracks and don’t go further. Roosters usually have their own "godfather" - the head rooster. This is a powerful figure. After all, he can order some rooster to kiss, say, someone in front of everyone. Of course, a rooster can be killed for this, but the one he kisses automatically becomes a rooster himself. The chief rooster is at the same time an intermediary between the caste of the untouchables and the entire camp community. All claims of the omitted, all their proposals are brought to the authoritative (skhodnyak) through this leader. Through him, this group of outcasts and formally withdrawn from normal life of people is controlled by authoritative ones. The chief cock is an optional figure, sometimes there are two leaders (“folder” and “mother”) or even more. It should be noted that the leaders of the roosters are people who are very well informed about the inner life of the zone. They know many intrigues, they can know who the real “watcher” is (often a prisoner who appears as a “watcher” is a dummy figure, and the real leader of the zone is not highlighted), and much more.

Roosters are for life. If a rooster arrives in a zone where no one knows him - when he is transferred there, or from the wild, if he is imprisoned a second time - he is obliged to inform the lads about his status. It is useless to hide it, sooner or later the rooster's past becomes known, and then the opened roosters are punished, beaten, often killed. After all, it is believed that such a rooster "zashkvaril" all those who considered him an equal.

From the beginning of the 90s, since prison customs began to spread rapidly in the wild, the lower ones began to come from there, with a ready-made status.

By the way, there are not so many passive homosexuals and “prostitutes” among the lowered ones, contrary to popular belief. Basically, as I said, they get downgraded for the grossest violations of the prison law, for example, for squealing, for ratting (stealing from one's own), for lawlessness, non-payment of card debt. Those who themselves lowered or were the godfather of the cell in which someone was lowered without guilt are also very likely candidates for roosters. However, they can drop for anything. For beautiful eyes they can lower. It is difficult to rape an adult man - he will resist. Therefore, there are a number of replacement rituals. For example, they touch the lips of a sleeping person x...m. Or they wet a towel with sperm and pass it over the face. Sometimes pioneers are deceived: let me fuck you - you will get a pack of cigarettes. After all, there are such smokers that they can live without water and bread, but not without smoking. So they are sold for a smoke, or they just picked up bulls from the ground - they squashed themselves.

They can promise both support and protection for “services” - anything. It's called "talk on x ... d". Such a deception is considered a big joint: these deceivers themselves are then lowered along with rapists and thugs. They can - and this is also the biggest problem - set up an inexperienced novice convict who liked someone. Let's say they take all the chairs in the barbershop except for one, stale. A man, not feeling trouble, enters the hairdresser's and sits down on the only free chair. "Countryman, where did you sit down ?! - What is it? - Yes, this is a place for fagots! - But I didn't know ... - Well, you never know, I didn't know!"

Card debtors often fall into the lowered ones. A person who has not paid a debt (and even in the form of a smoke) in the zone can simply be killed - this is not a will, they seriously collect for debts there. And so, in order to avoid punishment, a person voluntarily becomes a rooster. He takes his mattress at night and moves to the cock's bunk. Now, like any rooster, nothing can be taken from him.

To finish with the castes, it is necessary to mention a few more groups. In addition to "pigs" and "devils", there are also "sixes" in the zones - servants. Too weak or helpful people fall into the sixes. Both in prisons and in camps, excessive obsequiousness is not in honor. If you are asked to do something, say, wash someone else's socks, and you agree, you will be a six. Even if you do it for a fee. In prison, it is customary to serve yourself. He who cannot endure difficulties, who begins to do and fulfill everything for a piece of bread, does not deserve respect. But, you understand, this does not mean that you should not fulfill any requests at all. It all depends on the situation in which the request is fulfilled, and on who fulfills it and how. Sometimes even the person who served a mug of water becomes a six.

Other passive homosexuals differ from roosters - personal lovers of thieves, all these Jackdaws, Svetka, Masha. They are not beaten, they are not kept in a black body, on the contrary, they are excused from work - so that they are soft. But they are not allowed too much either. What other articles, except for 131 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (rape), are considered shameful? If I sat down on any of the "dirty" articles, is there any point in hiding it?

By "rape" in fact, the zone has become accustomed to. There are scarier articles out there. For example, for evading the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. Also for homosexuality, for indecent acts against minors.

As for rape, the attitude towards those who sat down under this article is not always the same. It happens, after all, that there was no rape either - they just wanted to imprison a person and imprisoned him, albeit under the article for rape (in the old Criminal Code it was the famous 117th, “youth” article). This is a fairly common case.

The pioneers are, as a rule, young people striving for competition in all spheres of life, they did not know the foundations of the prison, and in the absence of the supervision of more experienced prisoners, their life became more and more wild over time.

This led to the fact that punishment by rape, which was an extreme measure used in isolated cases before the reform, became widespread everywhere (read about the types of violence in prisons).

Any prisoner can become omitted.

These include:

  1. People who practiced homosexual relationships in the wild.
  2. Prisoners who ended up in the MLS for the rape of minor children.
  3. People whose relatives work in law enforcement.

Reference: in addition to roosters, there is a caste of devils in the prison community. With lowered devils, the status of untouchables is related, but they are not used for sexual pleasures.

  7. Cute appearance, high voice, cuteness - these factors increase the likelihood of obtaining a residence permit in the cock's corner.

Lowering can also be carried out by order of the prison administration to remove objectionable prisoners from prison life.

But the prison community has a more loyal attitude towards such downtrodden people.

From a misspoken word or an insult that was not answered, to certain actions, any carelessness can negatively affect social status.

There are a lot of prohibitions for intimate life in the prison world. In fact, the only sure way not to get into the “jamb” is to engage exclusively in classic sex, touching nothing and nowhere else. It is better not to engage in oral sex at all, since it only allows the opportunity to rent a prostitute or find a girl with whom you will never kiss. Naturally, with this approach, unfamiliar terms from sexology are automatically classified as "dumb" (in this case shameful, "cock").

This does not mean that no one in freedom was engaged in all sorts of "bad" things - they simply keep silent about it.

You can also call in the "harem" for not responding to some insults. For example, if they sent three letters and the person was silent, it means that he is going there.

But a convict can become a "rooster" for seemingly ordinary, everyday actions. It is impossible to contact with the "separated". Everything that the “lowered” touches is immediately “stuffed” (that is, it goes into the category of things for “roosters”). This rule does not apply only to "prohibitions" (things prohibited in the zone), which are sometimes hidden from the "separated". They told how some of them carried mobile phones from the living area to the work area right in shorts. And the convicts were absolutely not embarrassed. Still "lowered" can be beaten (with sticks or feet) and used for a second purpose.

I was told that in some areas, especially for the "roosters", so that they did not take hold of the handles, nails were driven into the doors. They have their own tables, bunks, toilet bowls, faucets, everything of their own that "muzhiks" cannot touch. Therefore, if a convict takes food, cigarettes from a “lowered” person, drinks tea with him or sits down to eat at his table, then he himself will fall into the lower Zon caste. Of course, if this is not done "out of the blue" (when a person does not know that there is a "cock" in front of him, or that the thing is "stuffed").

The two main duties of the "offended" are: to sexually satisfy the prisoners and to do all the dirty work in the zone. They can be beaten for educational purposes and so, for the soul. I was told cases when the "lowered" were woken up with a foot in the face so that they would go to clean the toilet.

The administration ambiguously looks at the "cock" question. The police officers who have been working in the MLS for a long time are imbued with "concepts" to the marrow of their bones and, accordingly, treat the "lowered" a little differently than other convicts. On the other hand, on duty, the guards are obliged to prevent any manifestation of physical or psychological violence among the prisoners, so they are trying in every possible way to make sure that the "roosters" are not severely beaten and humiliated. And recently they have especially succeeded in this: they have almost completely stopped beating the "separated".

In the zone where I was sitting, even at the beginning of my term, the “offended” was obliged to cling to the wall when a “man” walked along the corridor.

If there is no place where to put the "lowered", then he can sleep right under the bunks. At the stages, in the transit chambers, all the "roosters" settle down either to the door or to the toilet. In general, in order to survive in the zone, being a "rooster", you need to have a certain type of personality, since not everyone can endure the constant humiliation, beatings, harassment and the complete destruction of human dignity that the "offended" are subjected to.

True, the "lowered" ones are no less cruel. The old-timers told me that they allegedly decided to conduct an experiment in one of the colonies, and the "roosters" from all over the zone were settled in one detachment so that no one would touch them, and they could live in peace. So, before the policemen had time to do this, the “offended” created in the detachment exactly the same hierarchy as in the entire zone: there appeared their own “thieves”, “muzhiks” and “downtrodden”. But, unlike the rest of the zone, the hierarchy was maintained in this detachment, allegedly due to inhuman cruelty (in principle, this is understandable). The experiment had to be stopped.

I don’t know how it was in other camps, but in our zone, “roosters” could always be distinguished externally. Not only in their clothes, they had some kind of special imprint on their faces. It was clear that these people got into the "harem" not in vain.

However, despite all the beatings and humiliation, the "lowered" have certain rights and social guarantees.

Firstly, all "roosters" are divided into workers and non-workers. Workers provide sexual services, non-workers, respectively, do not. And no one has the right to force the "lowered" to do "this" against his will - this is chaos. Most often, intimate services are provided by mutual desire.

Secondly, you have to pay for sex. If the prisoner does not pay the "broken" for sex, then he does it out of love. And who can have love with a "rooster"? That's right, the same one. In general, in terms of payment for cleaning or for other services, the "lowered" were not "thrown": they paid in full size and always on time, because they are already offended by life, much more to scoff at! Therefore, very often prisoners with a low social status were in material terms much better than prisoners with a higher status.

In general, in relation to the "roosters" the essence of the prisoner is manifested. ZK are divided into two camps, those who use the services of "leaky" with pleasure, not seeing any problems in this, and those who avoid such things, considering them active form homosexuality. There are not so many firsts in the zone, especially recently, when the police have actively taken up the eradication of intimate services. I don't know how it is in other camps, but in our colony the administration has achieved tremendous success in this matter. We have convicts, before turning to the "rooster" with an offer to have sex, they thought three times: do they need it.

But here's what's interesting. Despite the poor situation of the "offended" in the zone, some prisoners consciously and absolutely voluntarily went to the "harem". In my memory, several people specifically took something from the "offended" or sat down to eat at their table. Some did it out of protest against something, some simply could not stand the nerves. But there were convicts who, during their time in prison, began to understand that they liked sex with men, and in all its manifestations.

It always seemed to me that such a cruel treatment of "roosters" arose as a defense against the possible spread of sodomy. Psychologists have long proved that so-called false homosexuality arises in closed same-sex groups; Freud called this phenomenon acquired perversion. Being long time among men, willy-nilly, you begin to look at some of them as possible objects of desire. No, of course, everyone remains heterosexual, but women in the distance and over time become a somewhat abstract concept, so for many, attention switches to "their own". Someone hides it even from themselves, but there are those who are not at all embarrassed by this state of affairs. There were cases when, before a long meeting with his wife, a convict went to the "rooster" in order to "throw off tension and not lose face on a date."

I remember I was told about how true love arose between one "man" and a "rooster". They even planned to live together after their release, and the "lowered" was going to change sex for the sake of his beloved. Most likely, after they were released, these plans were forgotten, since such thoughts disappear as soon as the convict sees real women around him. The zone is gradually forgotten, but the sediment remains, some for life.

Tired of the talk that Western politicians and the rest of "progressive humanity" are going to boycott the Sochi Olympics because of the oppression of homosexuals in Russia. And this happens, of course, to thunderous applause and enthusiasm from the Russian opposition.

I could not find a single example of so-called harassment against athletes or fans representing sexual minorities. Is it only new law, forbidding them to have sex or hold gay parades near schools and kindergartens. So straight people are also not recommended by law. And do Olympians of non-traditional sexual orientation participate in the Olympic Games only for the purpose of having sex near kindergartens or campaigning for a blue life there? If not, then why such a loud hysteria and who is hindered by the law prohibiting this?

And why were the fighters for the rights of sexual minorities so hooked by the Sochi Olympics, and not, say, by the strict regime camps? Yes, because the "fight" for the rights of LGBT people in conjunction with the Olympic Games is pure PR and a lot of money. Pay attention to the fact that the “global human rights defenders” of the rights of sexual minorities allegedly trampled in Russia are only interested in global issues that carry decent funding and mass attention. Such as the Olympics, tours of the first persons of Russian classical music, visits of heads of state, etc. And nothing less.

I know that now the defenders of homosexuals (including Western fighters-ideologists, some Russian bloggers and LGBT activists) will break out with another cries that I, they say, insult people with a non-traditional sexual orientation and urge to ignore the violation of their rights.

Hey guys! Wake up! Everything is much easier. Why do you protect only where it is interesting and profitable for you to do so? If I'm wrong, then why don't you, as true fighters for the rights of LGBT and other sexual minorities, start defending, say, " offended roosters» on zones or in prisons?

Don't know these? Then I'll tell you. And my words will be confirmed by everyone who, by the will of fate, has been in places of deprivation of liberty.

“Roosters”, “offended”, “lowered”, “rooster suit”, “chushkari”, “leaky” - these are just a small part of the official prison-camp names for people of non-traditional sexual orientation. In fact, all these names are synonymous. Is that, there is a slight nuance between the "lowered" and "offended", which now, in practice, does not carry a semantic load. The omitted one is an open passive homosexual who had homosexual contacts, and the offended one is the one who “scrambled”, that is, shook hands with a rooster, or ate from the same plate, or used his spoon, or entered into some other close contact.

In every pre-trial detention center, a prison and a correctional colony, there are special huts (cells, sections), the so-called "obizhenki", where "roosters" live separately from everyone. In large camp barracks, this is a special "cock's corner". In many zones and prisons, the “offended” have their own beholder, from the same ones. He is called the "head cock". Each newly arrived convict must be informed of the whereabouts of the “offended person”, so that the newcomer does not accidentally “stumble”. Now, the "offended" make up about 1 - 1.5% of the total number of Russian prisoners. And this is almost 15 thousand prisoners.

The "roosters" without fail have their own bedding, which is washed separately, as well as their own dishes, which are also stored strictly separately. So that, God forbid, it does not get mixed up with the dishes and linen of "decent prisoners." Otherwise there will be big problems. Everyone has. Even when checking in the ranks, the “offended” is built separately.

Sit at a common table in a cell or camp dining room (there are separate eating areas for them with separate utensils and food storage places);
- touch the products intended for ordinary prisoners;
- take a cigarette from the pack by touching other cigarettes, or light one match in front of a “decent prisoner”;
- to say hello to the hand with anyone, except for the same lowered ones;
- apply with any claim with an ordinary prisoner, since he is not an equal creature. Instead of responding to a claim, he may well get hit;

"Rooster", he is also "homosexual", he is also "offended" or "leaky", is obliged:

Fulfill, practically, any requirements of other prisoners;
- to do all the dirty work in the cell, barracks, section. Namely, to wash the floors, take out the trash cans, clean the dalnyak (bucket, latrine, etc.). At the same time, in the detachments, all distant people are distributed behind the "cocks", which are responsible for their purity;
- live only in the premises of the “offended”, ordinary huts, sections and barracks are not for them;
- when entering the cell (section, barrack) for the first time, immediately inform the whole hut “I am offended” and modestly settle down near the brakes (doors) or far (toilet), where to wait for the further decision of your fate. If the “rooster” hid the fact that he was offended and behaved like an ordinary convict (he shook hands, drank chifir from a common mug with everyone, sat down at a common table), and then it turned out that he was a homosexual, then they may well be beaten to death . Since he “zaforshmachil” (soiled, infected) the entire “human hut”.
- use only separate dishes, towels, linen and other household and personal hygiene items.

In the winter of 2011, I had a chance to visit the stage Murmansk - Vologda - Moscow. One of the escorts, during the withdrawal to the toilet, looked into the neighboring “compartment” and, passing, managed to shout that one of the convicts sitting there “rooster”, they say, recognized him from the Murmansk central. After a difficult conversation, the Murmansk resident admitted that he was a homosexual and lived in the Murmansk pre-trial detention center in a "offended", but decided to hide his sexual orientation. He was beaten for a long time and cruelly (there were at least 10 convicts in the neighboring "kupeshka"). Then they kicked him under the bottom shelf, where he spent the rest of the long journey. Yes, and more. The experienced convoy defiantly paid no attention to the situation. Only then did I take the “offended” several times to clean the common toilets and the corridor in the “Stolypin”.

Until recently, the “offended” were forcibly made special “portacas” (tattoos, tattoos), reporting their orientation. Here are just a few:

I suggest that LGBT activists, politicians and journalists who parasitize on the topic of protecting (it is not clear from what) sexual minorities, stop screaming about the Olympics and moaning about the ban on gay parades around schools and kindergartens, and start protecting the rights of homosexuals in zones and prisons. Of course, they don’t pay for it, there is no PR, and it’s somehow scary to climb into barracks and huts ... But you try it. BUT?

I have already sat down several times to write the "specifics", but still could not state everything the way I would like. Because partly a few went into abstract topics.

Several times my friends asked me - how is it there? Usually you start to tell, you look at the interlocutor and you see a misunderstanding - the person listens, but does not perceive. It just doesn't fit in his head. As if we are talking about integral calculus. All the words seem to be clear - but the picture does not add up.

It's hard to understand that right here, nearby, in the same city where you live, where ordinary people walk at a distance of some 10 meters, it's a completely different world. Some of the prisoners called it "The Lost World". Rotting bodies, stink, lice, bedbugs, scabies, tuberculosis, "roosters" under the racks, stinking gruel with worms, "concepts", cops and thieves' lawlessness.

Once, seeing a misunderstanding, I took a friend into the bathroom - an ordinary average bathroom in an ordinary apartment. Imagine, I say, that here in this bath we put three bunk racks, a table, a toilet bowl (more precisely, just a point - "dalnyak" - like in public toilets).

And now we settle here 7-8, and maybe 10-12 people. What is it like? - the person looks at me with disbelief, - there’s simply no way to become ten, even if you throw everything away and leave bare walls, and not just three racks ...

Well, of course, there is nowhere to stand - but you can live. A year, two, three - going out only once a day for an incomplete hour for a walk.

This is exactly the picture I saw when I crossed the threshold of hut number 105 of the Kaliningrad prison.

Shkonari welded from pipes and strips of metal. Mattresses, at first glance, are - but later it turned out that they were almost empty - this is a luxury item in prison. A very limited number of them are passed "by inheritance" to their family members, relatives. The rest is just camouflage with a few wads of cotton. Therefore, many have to sleep almost on metal.

But this is already a common thing - ten days before that there weren’t even such quarantines - they just sleep on iron, without mattresses, blankets, beds. October in the Baltics is already very cold and damp, especially at night. It was impossible to sleep for more than an hour and a half - I had to get up and move, drink tea (if any). And you don’t have more than 8 hours, since there are 30 people in a hut for 10 people. So now on this mattress and even under the covers you can sleep off. How little a person needs to be happy.

Dalnyak is fenced off with a screen. A water faucet comes out above it and water flows directly into the point. This must always be remembered, since getting up after a great need, you can stumble on him with your back. But forgetting about it is not so easy - it leaks, and when you are sitting on a long distance, cold water dripping on your back. So that the drops of water do not irritate their own sound, a strip of matter is tied to the tap, along which the water flows down.

Near the table - "common fund", firmly concreted into the floor. No more than two people can sit behind him - one on a nearby bunk, the other on a stool. Above it is a "TV" - a metal box for dishes and food.

Stool - "stool" is not attached to the floor. In general, this is a violation - everything must be firmly welded to the floor. But in this kennel it is simply impossible - nowhere.

The passage between the shkonars is exactly for one person, and even then - not very broad-shouldered. Two, even sideways, can not pass. In total, the passage from the doors ("brakes") to the far guard is four steps. Sometimes I even managed to take a walk - three steps, at the fourth turn, three again ... and so on for an hour. But this is rare - in short intervals of an unfilled (this is when ONLY 7 people) hut.

The upper shkonar at the tails is a worker. They don't sleep on it, there workplace road builder - responsible for the roads, that is, the connection between the huts. They do not sleep there for another reason - there are no windows and in cold weather it is simply impossible to be there. There are piles of trunks. And plus, a few stripes were torn out of the shkar - someone needed a "saber" at one time, most likely to push the button accordion furs a little apart.

There is practically no window - that is, it is, under the ceiling, but you cannot see anything through it - metal blinds, called button accordion (or cilia), are installed so as to only let air through. The light practically does not pass - in the cells both day and night - around the clock - a light bulb is on (it was only then that the words of a famous song came to me - "Taganka, all nights are full of fire ..."). There are two more lattices - tails. One forged, still German, with large cells - 20 centimeters, the other small - minced meat - from reinforcement, with a cell size smaller than a matchbox - is already ours.

The walls are incredibly dirty brown. Looks like they were once white. They say that major repairs have not been done here since the days of Germany - more precisely, the end of the war. Very similar to that. This prison is one of the few buildings that survived from the old Koenigsberg. Under the Germans, in such huts - they say - there were two people each. Yes, together it would be more or less tolerable.

The dimensions of the chamber are 3.60 by 1.70, the height is about 2.50. For 10 people. Now even toilets sometimes do more.

In the corners there are huge ancient cobwebs and equally huge spiders. The spider and the web is one of the main thieves' symbols and therefore is very often found on tattoos. According to zek beliefs, you can’t touch a spider - something like a sacred animal. It can be relocated as a last resort. But in hut 105 they were especially respected and not touched at all. But at least there were no flies.

Taxied in the hut Sanek. He was then 35 years old. 35 minus 13 equals 22. Started sitting at 17. Total 5 at large - 13 in prison. Previously, he kicked in terms of concepts, but he was not torn into authorities. Now tired, began to think about life. The face is surprisingly kind and even childlike. No one from the first time gave Sanka either his 35 or the fifth walker. For a cunning, gloomy prisoner, everyone who entered the hut took me - and made round eyes when they found out how it really was.

After a short calm conversation (who, where, article) he determined for me the upper bunk ("palm tree") above me. I brewed a chifirka. When I soon fell asleep (after sleepless nights of quarantine), already through a dream I felt how he threw his blanket over me. And even what I learned about him later did not dull the feeling of gratitude for that sympathy shown.

But this moment was preceded by one incident. The two of us were thrown into hut 105 from quarantine - there was another guy about 27 years old. When we entered, one of the prisoners, sleeping on the top bunk, raised his head, uttered an exclamation of surprise and turned to the one who came in after me:

"You have a choice - either you are now breaking out of the hut, or I present it to you."

He replied that he did not feel anything and would remain in the hut.

"Then stand near the brakes and don't move. You're pounding in the ass and taking it in your mouth."

He refused - nothing like that, you will answer for the market and all that.

Sanyok enters the conversation and turns to Seryoga (that was the name of the accuser) - "Are you sure? Do you know him?" - "Yes, this is Vokha, besides, she suffered in my first case, a fellow countryman from Baltiysk. I heard about him from the right people that he foolishly took his cheek and asked him to be kicked in the ass when they were some they dragged a heifer."

Sanya turns to Vokha - "Is it true?" - "No. The fact that he was a patient, I admit, he testified at the trial, and everything else is rubbish." "Are you answering?" - "I answer." "Can you confirm?" - "I can." "Sat?" - "Half a year in a pre-trial detention center, now I went under conditional terms." "Why did they take it?" - "Cops, bastards, framed, gop-stop hang."

“Then this will be the decision,” says Sanek, “you guys know the concept - each of you must substantiate your words. You have 10 days. you, Seryoga, there is a suspicion that you want to slander the guy in retaliation for the past. We don’t respect patience, but they don’t drive you to the bunk for it - this is your business. You have a serious accusation - you know what will happen if In the meantime, you are under suspicion. Do not touch dishes and food, do not drink tea from common mugs. Your shkonar is under the window for the time being (in cold weather this is the worst place in the hut - draft and oak is the same as on the street - it is difficult lie down even for an hour.) If someone wants to share a place with you - while you are under suspicion - no problem."

No one shared his shkonar with Vokha like that. Serega found more witnesses (eyewitnesses, as they say in prison - they don't like witnesses there), who confirmed his words. But Vokha was not looking for anyone. He sat and doomedly waited for his fate, which, as he understood, he could not avoid.

Seeing such a situation, Sanya did not even wait for the time allotted by him and demanded an explanation, during which he put his foot on Vokha's face (after carefully removing his slippers). He still refused. Then Sanya still waited until the deadline and declared Vokha a rooster. With further kicking - it turns out that it is impossible to beat roosters with your hands - you can "finish yourself."

He tried to break out of the hut, but the opera did not want to translate him - we, they say, don’t give a damn - there’s nowhere to put him, do what you want with him. After that, he independently moved under the shkonar, although Sanya nevertheless allowed him to live on his bunk - it was impossible, in my opinion, to stretch on a concrete floor in such a cold for at least a few hours, but he could. When the cops came to check, they laughed and told him - give a sound to know if he was alive. Once they just stopped with a boot - Vokha mumbled something in pain. "Aah, it means alive" - ​​said the cop and went on.

With the intensification of the cold, Vokha nevertheless crawled out from under the bunk and lived quietly on his shkonar, talking about something to himself. When they drank tea in the hut, they also poured him into his mug, gave him cigarettes. He himself, without coercion, regularly swept the hut and from time to time began to prove that he was not a cock. Then he agreed again.

Later, after the New Year, he left for the investigation in his town. When he returned, they threw him into another hut. He became silent again and did not say who he was. This time he was less fortunate - they beat him for a long time, they finally broke him from the hut, they made an announcement to the whole prison. After the donkey, he was offended somewhere and was never heard from again.

And in quarantine, he behaved quite arrogantly and even tried, for no reason, to show his toughness, to make a person "fall on a rag" - to clean the hut. I probably decided to act according to the old Zon's saying - "It's better to drive than to be persecuted." But everything turned out the other way around. Received in response to the muzzle. Not according to the concepts, of course, but the conflict was resolved.

And they put Vokha, as it turned out, for a bag of potatoes. Granny was trading on the street, he came up, wanted to take the proceeds from her, but either she wasn’t there, or the granny didn’t give. Then he took a bag of potatoes that she was selling, threw it over her shoulders and tried to dump it, but a police squad was just nearby. During the investigation, he said that he was simply helping the granny to carry the bag across the road. And since his conditional conviction for hooliganism had not yet ended, a bag of potatoes probably cost him several years.

And Sanek behaved very calmly, he liked to tell all sorts of prisoner stories about how it was before. Before the release, he had about six months. He had no relatives or friends. Some kind of cousin somewhere in the village - that's all.

He was afraid to go free. No home, no family. And waited for release with fear. It was visible to the naked eye. Yes, he himself did not particularly hide this in conversations with me. He often asked about all sorts of everyday trifles - up to how to ride a trolleybus, buy a ticket, etc. How to get to the station - he lived (and his aunt) somewhere in a village far from regional center. He was simply terribly afraid to go through the city, he gets into a trolleybus. He was afraid of women - he himself said that in his 35 years he had no more of them than the intervals between his terms. Yes, and then - with a stretch. Often, during long nights, he quietly asked me to tell him about life - what to do, what to do and how. He often said that he had nothing to do in freedom - I would go out, he said, I would take a little walk until I was caught once again on some petty theft - and I would sit down again.

Here he felt like a fish in water. Everything was familiar to him, he did not have to think about blood and bread. He even went for walks at least once a week. He enjoyed a certain respect - he knew how to beautifully tell young people about concepts and life. Although he treated the young people spreading their fingers with irony and could successfully laugh at their childish naivety.

Sanya, as it turned out, was a regular informer - knocked, that is. I began to guess about it after two or three months in the hut. Later, in other huts, this was confirmed.

Although he had no relatives, he regularly, about once a month, went on dates. He said that he was skating with a man alone for a year of joint imprisonment, so he comes to him. I also received packages once a month - always about the same thing - simple cigarettes, Georgian tea, a little bacon, caramel. Later I had to hear about such programs - they were used by the opera to pay off their non-staff employees. And they took them from obshchakovsky programs as a bribe for connivance. The cycle of cigarettes in nature turned out to be interesting.

Those who were of interest to them and only first-timers were thrown into his hut in order to protect Sanka from unwanted meetings.

Why so, why he was afraid to go to the zone - I don’t know. Most likely, he was simply tired of everything and he wanted some, at least temporary, peace. The opera gave him certain guarantees of a quiet life, at least in prison, in exchange for information.

It must be admitted that Sanya never questioned anyone, and did not fish out anything. Yes, on the other hand, it was not necessary - the tongue is the smallest of the members of the body, but who can curb it. Nights and days drag on oh how long - and you want to talk to someone. People so perlo tell about their exploits.

But suddenly he had a goal - Sanya fell in love ...
