To use the drive effectively, your computer must be partitioned. This will separate system data and user files. This makes it easier to organize the backup and secure storage of important documents.

What is EaseUS Partition Master Free utility for?

The EaseUS Partition Master Free program will allow you to perform the following operations with drives on a Windows computer:

  • Create, delete, rename or restore partitions on your hard drive.
  • Merge partitions without losing data on both parts of the disk.
  • Resize existing logical drives, also without data loss and using intermediate drives.
  • Completely clear the hard drive of data before disposing of it.
  • Transfer system and data from one drive to another. This feature is useful when moving from a slow HDD to a new fast SSD. The feature is implemented in the paid version of the utility.

It is important that the program is free for personal use with certain restrictions: the size of the hard drive should be no more than 8 TB.

Attention! When installing the utility, the Russian language is missing. At the end of the procedure, the installer offers the installation of additional software, the usefulness of which is doubtful. In these windows, click Decline and refuse to install unnecessary browsers and antiviruses.

How to work with EaseUS Partition Master Free

Beginning of work

If several users work on the computer, we recommend that you set a password for using the utility when you first start the utility. This will eliminate the possibility of accidentally making changes to the existing partition system and corrupting system data.

Setting the password is done through the menu item General - Set password.

The run screen displays the existing disk partitioning. In our laptop, the EaseUS Partition Master Free utility detected two drives: an HDD for user data and an SDD for the system.

Resizing partitions on a drive

The advantage of the program is the convenient organization of the user interface. All basic operations are performed visually, in two mouse clicks.

Changing the size of the area on the disk is done on the interactive panel at the bottom of the working screen. To split D: into two logical drives, you need to move the cursor and press the right mouse button.

Select Resize / Move partition and specify a new breakdown in percentage or megabytes. The operation can be made clearer. Move the mouse cursor over the border between sections, press the left key and move the slider left/right to increase/decrease the size of the areas.

The Undo button will cancel the changes and return everything to the starting point.

Combining logical drives

This operation is called Merge partition. The program will ask you to specify with which area of the disk you intend to merge the partition selected with the mouse.

Change drive letter

The Change label operation changes the name of an area on the drive. Change drive letter changes the logical drive letter. The choice is made from a list of available values.

Correction and verification of the drive

Testing is one of the features of EaseUS Partition Master Free. Select the Check partion operation. By default, the properties of the disk are checked, searching for errors and bad blocks on it. Extra functions are turned off by checkmarks.

Removing and cleaning up a logical drive

The following options are available:

  • Hide partition - hide the partition. The hidden drive will not be shown to users.
  • Delete - delete area.
  • Format - Removes the formatting markup and re-does it.
  • Wipe - clears data. It is recommended to use when transferring the drive for recycling or to another user.

Moving from HDD to SDD (paid version only)

An operation for which a huge number of users who want to increase the performance of their computer or laptop will want to download the utility.

The script is simple:

  • We connect the SSD as a second drive to the computer.
  • In EaseUS Partition Master Free, click the Migrate OS to SSD/HDD button.
  • In the next window, select a paid plan for more features.

This mode is available only in the paid version of the program.

Optimizing the drive and cleaning up garbage on it

The EaseUS Partition Master Free program is able to clean the disk from garbage in the form of temporary files. The function is triggered by a buttonCleanup and Optimizationmain menu. The modes are equipped with large clear icons. In particular, garbage collection is displayed by the trash can.

On our laptop, EaseUS Partition Master Free found over 600 MB of junk data.

Large File Cleanupfinds huge files. Usually these are watched movies, videos and other unnecessary data that takes up a lot of space. Note that the scan is fast and efficiently finds garbage.

Disk optimizationanalyzes the state of the disk and, if necessary, defragments it. The feature will be useful for older versions of Windows. The new 8s and 10s independently perform the operation as part of drive maintenance.

Conclusion

EaseUS Partition Master Free is a handy utility, the main advantages of which are wide features and a simple user interface. All operations are provided with intuitive icons and tips from developers. The program will cope with all the tasks that arise when installing new drives and when moving to a new drive (including changing the type of HDD / SDD) without the hassle and loss of data.

You can download EaseUS Partition Master Free from the following link . You can try out the features of the paid PRO utility using the free trial version.

For readers of our site, the purchase of EaseUS Partition Master Free is possible at a discount, which can be obtained using the following promotional code.

When you use one operating system for a long time without reinstalling, you may want or even need to increase or decrease the size of a partition, partition your hard drive into partitions, or vice versa, take and combine partitions into one.

One of the reasons why operations with partitions may be needed is the lack of space on the current partition. I myself once had such a situation when on the partition where Windows was installed suddenly there was a catastrophic lack of space. I remember once I installed Windows and didn’t quite think about how much space I need to allocate to the partition for Windows and for my various documents, videos, photos, and so on. As a result, I allocated some space and a month later I realized that it was almost over and there was, in principle, nothing to free it with :) Then for the first time I thought about special programs that can help distribute free space between partitions and, for example, break a hard disk into partitions directly from the Windows operating system.

Another reason why you may need a program to work with partitions is that you want to install 2 operating systems in parallel with the ability to boot one or the other of your choice. In this case, it is recommended to install the second system on a different logical disk (partition), because it is more reliable this way. And then, if you had one partition, you will need to make a second one, and, unfortunately, you won’t be able to do this with standard Windows tools ... In this case, programs specially designed for this purpose will come to the rescue.

There are quite a few programs that allow you to work with Windows partitions. Basically, most of the functionality of such programs, one way or another, is paid. Even if there is a free version, it will 99.9% have limited functionality. So, do you want more? Pay and enjoy :)

For all the time I used several programs to work with partitions, and the last one I stopped at was Easeus Partition Master. This program has several modifications, and one of them is free - with the postscript Free. Once I tried it, I realized that, in principle, it has all the most basic things, and if something is missing, then you can try to find this functionality in similar programs.

Today I will talk about how to perform basic operations on Windows partitions using this program.

I also note that such programs, as a rule, have standard versions that work with partitions from under Windows and bootable versions that work in a special environment even before the OS is loaded (like LiveCD disks).

EaseUS Partition Master in the free version can only work from Windows, and the function to create a bootable disk is available only in its paid versions. It is safer, of course, to work with partitions using the boot version of programs. But using this program repeatedly, I did not encounter problems.

A free download version has a similar program - MiniTool Partition Wizard. And in the next article, I will just tell you how to work with partitions using it. After all, someone may come in handy:

And now let's start working with the EaseUS Partition Master program.

Attention!
Any operations with partitions are always associated with a certain risk of losing data or bringing the system to an inoperable state. These risks are always and everywhere and just do not forget about them. If you are going to perform operations on hard disk partitions, it is strongly recommended to back up data or all partitions at once, for example, through the Acronis True Image program. Using this program, I have never encountered any problems, but there are all sorts of situations. Therefore, keep this in mind!

Download and Install EaseUS Partition Master

You can download the program freely from the official website of the developer at the link:

Easeus.com

The page that opens will display a table that compares all versions of the program. As you can see, the free one has a minimum number of functions, but the most important thing for us is that it can resize partitions (Resize partition) at medium speed (since “Normal speed” is indicated) and merge partitions together (Merge partitions). Of course, the free version of the program has other features as well! The version of the program with the maximum set of functions, as we see, today costs 127 with small bucks. Well, this version is needed more by system administrators than ordinary users, since it differs from the $32 version only by the ability to work on Windows server operating systems.

So, to download the program, click on the "Free Download" button at the bottom of the Partition Master Free column:

Run the downloaded program installer:

Unfortunately, the program does not support the Russian language, which, of course, will be a significant disadvantage for many. But in this article, after all, I explain everything :) Leave English and click "OK":

Again, we are offered to evaluate the merits of one of the paid versions of EaseUS Partition Master compared to the free one you are installing. There is even a buy button (Try Pro Edition). We continue by clicking on "Next":

We accept the terms of the license agreement with the "Accept" button:

The next window shows the default installation path at the top. By clicking on the “Browse” button, you can change the installation folder if you wish. Below there are 3 enabled checkboxes. The first 2 create icons for launching the program on the desktop and taskbar, and the last invites us to participate in the quality improvement program. The last checkbox can be removed. We continue the configuration before installation by clicking "Next":

In the next window, we are prompted to install the EaseUS Todo Backup Free data recovery program from the same developer. Since the recovery program is not of interest to us now (I already talked about one of these programs in the article “ Recovering data from a computer using R.Saver!”), uncheck the box at the top of the window and click “Next” so as not to install unnecessary software on the computer :

In the next window, if you just click "Next", then install another proposed extra program SHAREit, designed to transfer videos, photos and other information from mobile devices. To not install the program, select "Custom installation" and uncheck:

In the next window, we are again offered to install the program and this time to optimize the operating system, i.e. cleaning it from excess debris to speed up work. The program is called "AVG PC TuneUP" and I already talked about it in a separate article:

To prevent the program from being installed on your computer, check the box "I do not accept". We continue by clicking on the "Next" button:

Be careful when installing free programs, otherwise you can install a whole bunch of additional programs you don't need :)

OK it's all over Now! A checked checkbox means that the program will start immediately after the installation is completed. Click "Finish":

This completes the installation.

Working with Windows Partitions with EaseUS Partition Master!

We launch the program (if it does not start itself after installation), and in the window that opens, click "Launch Application", i.e. once again confirm the launch of the program:

The main program window will appear in front of you, where all the main sections on the computer will be displayed in the middle:

Keep in mind that the program does not work with hidden partitions!

When working with the program, the following messages may sometimes appear:

In this case, check the "Don't show this again" checkbox in one of these messages and the messages will stop appearing.

The operations available on partitions are listed in the small "Operations" window to the left of the program. You can also get a list of operations by right-clicking on the section:

The most basic partition operations are located as buttons on the top toolbar:

And another way to access partition operations is to open the "Partitions" menu at the very top:

Now let's look at some operations on partitions that may come in handy.

Resizing a partition

With the help of the program, you can quickly change the partition size, i.e. increase it at the expense of the free space of the neighboring partition (if any) or reduce it, after which there will be free space for creating a new partition in the future.

The operation of changing a partition in the direction of reduction is comparable to the operation of dividing one partition into 2. I.e. we get two in one!

To resize a partition, select it and in the "Operations" window, click on the "Resize/Move Partition" button:

In the next window, you need to configure the new partition size:

The size is easily adjusted with the sliders to the left and right of the section ends. By moving the slider, you can increase or decrease the size. In my case, only 1 partition with a volume of 30 GB was created, which occupies the entire disk and, therefore, I cannot change the size upwards. You may be wondering: “Why do you have a hard drive with a capacity of only 30 GB?!”. The fact is that I show you how the program works on a virtual machine in order not to interfere with the sections of the real operating system.

You can read about what a virtual machine is in the article:

If you shrink a partition, another partition will be created to take up the freed space. The exact size can be adjusted manually in the "Partition Size" line in the center of the window.

Ullocated Space Before and Afrer is the amount of free space created before and after the partition.

Even lower will be displayed the structure of your local disk after you reduce / increase its size.

If you want to optimize a partition for an SSD drive (an analogue of an HDD that works many times faster), then check the "Optimize for SSD" box at the very bottom.

After the size is set, click "OK" at the bottom.

Now in the main window of the program you will already see 2 sections - the one for which you have changed the size and the section called "Unallocated", which was formed from free space and is an unallocated area that cannot be used:

But even though the new structure is already displayed in the program window, in fact, you still have the same partition with the same size. And all because the operations must be applied and only then they will be executed. And what you see in the window is only a preliminary structure, which will be real when you apply the planned partition change operation.

All preliminary operations are lined up on the left in the bottom window "Pending Operations".

And in order to apply the operation, you need to click the "Apply" button on the toolbar:

Also, you will have available the "Undo" button - canceling the planned operation with partitions, and "Refresh" - updating the partition structure in the EaseUS Partition Master program window.

By clicking on the button for applying operations, a small window will appear where you need to confirm your intention with the “Yes” button. Pay attention to the checkbox in this window. If you check the box, the computer will be turned off after the planned partition operations are completed!

If you change the size of a partition that is already in use (for example, the size of the system drive "C"), then in the next window there will be a warning that a computer restart is required to complete the operations. Therefore, you need to save all the work on the computer, if you did something, and only then click "Yes":

The computer will restart and the operations of the EaseUS Partition Master program will begin in a black window:

You don't need to click anything here, just wait until the end!

After waiting for Windows to load, we again go into the program and see that the window of previously prepared operations is empty, which means the operation (or several) performed on the partitions:

You can immediately open Windows Explorer and check what size your partition you were working with now has. You need to right-click on it and select "Properties":

For example, instead of 30 GB, my partition now has a volume of 24.5 GB, that is, I reduced it by about 5 GB.

Creating a partition in an unallocated free area (Unallocated)

If you reduced the size of the partition, then you will have the so-called unallocated area (Unallocated), which is displayed in EaseUS Partition Master as a separate partition without a letter:

You can create an additional partition in this area. To do this, select the area and click on the "Create partition" button:

The partition creation window will appear:

In the "Partition label" field, specify the name of the partition, which will be visible in the operating system.

In the "Create as" field, you need to select the type of partition "Primary" or "Logical". The system can boot from the primary partition (Primary) and there can be only 4 such partitions in the system. If you do not have 4 partitions, then it is better to choose the Primary type.

The "Drive Letter" field specifies the letter of the partition to be created. Choose any of the available ones from the list.

In the "File System" field, leave "NTFS" as this is the most modern file system.

"Cluster Size" is best left at its default value - "Default".

If you are creating a partition on an "SSD" drive, then enable the "Optimize for SSD" option. I talked about the differences between HDD and SSD, as well as in general about all computer components, in the article:

At the bottom, under the heading "Decide size and position", you can change the size of the created partition, since by default it will be created on all unallocated space.

When everything is set up, click "OK".

Now the operation needs to be applied by clicking the "Apply" button on the toolbar:

Confirm the operation with the "Yes" button:

The process of creating a partition will begin, which will be visible in a separate window:

After the process is complete, you will receive a notification in a separate window where you will need to click "OK" to continue:

This operation, as already understood, is performed without rebooting, since the system partition is not affected.

After the operation is completed, you can open Windows Explorer ("Computer" section) and see two sections already, one of which will have the name you specified:

Merging Sections

Another useful operation on partitions is merging partitions. Those. you can take and merge into one 2 previously created sections. Let's see how to do it...
Select the partition that we want to merge with some other and click on the "Merge partition" button:

In the window that opens, check the box that you want to merge with the selected one:

Below, in the "Merge selected partition to" field, select the drive letter that will belong to the merged partition.

There are no more settings and you can click the "OK" button.

In the next window, we confirm the operation and then another window will be displayed with a warning that a reboot is required. We agree by clicking "Yes":

After the reboot, you can open the explorer and make sure that instead of 2 sections you now have one!

These are the basic operations that any ordinary user may need, the EaseUS Partition Master program allows you to perform with partitions. All other simple operations on partitions can be performed using standard Windows tools. There is also a Disk Management utility (available through Computer Management), but it does not allow you to resize partitions, move them, merge them, and perform any other operations, except for creating new partitions from an unallocated area and deleting existing partitions.

And EaseUS Partition Master has the ability to do everything that was listed above and no difficulties arise.

That's all for today. See you in the next articles!

Reading time: 36 min

To optimize data storage in the system, we use different logical partitions. So most allocate 1 disk, usually C, for the system partition, and D is used as storage for all or part of the multimedia, in addition, you can create other various partitions.

EaseUS Partition Master allows you to easily manipulate your hard drive and split it into certain sectors, this approach is quite convenient and is used on a daily basis. There are built-in methods in Windows itself to partition the HDD and even the SSD, but they are less productive and can lead to data loss.

If we consider how to divide a hard drive into several parts, and then combine their volume, we will see that in total we get exactly the same size that the HDD has. It should also be remembered that the system partition must contain a sufficient amount of free space, usually there should be at least 5 GB of reserve volume, it is used to ensure that there are no lags in the system.

Key Features of EaseUS Partition Master

First, it is worth considering why this program for partitioning a hard disk deserves attention and highlight the features of the application:

  • The main advantage of the utility is its free;
  • A wide range of supported disc formats, all common types in the world are present here;
  • Able to work with a wide variety of media volumes, you can divide the HDD from 2GB to 4TB;
  • There is a function to show or hide discs;
  • There is a function of transferring information to another disk, while maintaining the integrity of the data;
  • There is a shredder for the complete removal of bytes of information;
  • Disk analysis for bad sectors;
  • You can view the changes.

All these characteristics make the program a truly worthy solution that is in no way inferior to paid counterparts, for which it deserves a separate review. Now let's look at how to correctly use the program in your Windows.

How to partition a hard drive on Windows?

Before partitioning a hard drive on Windows 7, it is important to download the program from the link https://www.partition-tool.com/landing/home-download.htm.

The installation process itself is standard and does not require deep knowledge of the English language, the main thing you need to consider is that here you will be offered additional programs, this is such a way to compensate for the cost of software support.

Also, during the installation, you will be asked to enter an email address, it is not necessary to indicate your own, there is no verification.

Now let's look at how to divide a hard drive into parts using the basic features of the application. The interface is intuitive and even an inexperienced user can figure it out. You need to do:

  • Run the program and in the main menu you will see your logical drives and their volume;
  • Usually it is necessary to take a certain volume from one section and make another out of it, and this is what we will do. Select the target disk and click on the button in the "Resize / move partition" menu;

  • By moving the slider at the top or entering your own value, you can specify the volume to separate. The "Partition Size" line will indicate the remaining volume of the partition, and "Unallocated Space After" will indicate what will be detached. If you are using a solid state drive, be sure to check the box next to "Optimize for SSD". Then click OK;
  • Select the unallocated space and click on "Create partition";
  • Here you need to set the basic settings for the created partition: name, file system, drive letter and the volume of the partition itself.

The process itself has a delayed form of execution, and even after the final selection and clicking the OK button, nothing happens, you will need to click the checkmark in the menu called "Apply". Only after this action will work start.

Do not worry about the data, they will be in perfect order and intact, so you do not have to format the disk.

Thanks to such simple actions, you will have a new partition in "My Computer", in the same way you can create other logical partitions, only it is worth considering that more than 4 elements cannot be created on an MBR disk.

In fact, our program for partitioning a Windows hard disk can not only partition, but also change their volume. If for some reason you need to return the volume of the disk to its previous position or you want to merge them, then this can be done here. Just delete the partition, the program will ask for confirmation. Then the unallocated space will appear again. Select the disk you want to enlarge and click on the "Resize/move partition" button. Again, use the slider to increase the available volume and save the changes.

After downloading the program, you will get some other features that are not described in the article, they work in the same way.

We figured out how to partition a hard drive on Windows 10 and any other versions while maintaining the original information. Thanks to this solution, you can set up the correct and comfortable operation of the system, set limited access to any section, use it for unique purposes and many other operations, and all this is completely free.

Hard disk partition editors are humble workers who save you at the most unexpected moments. You can’t do without them if you are thinking of moving the system from an outdated HDD to a fast SSD, purchased a new hard drive, or want to repartition existing partitions.

The difference between a physical drive and an icon in the Computer folder is the same as between a cabinet and the drawers in it. There is only one disk, and there can be as many partitions inside as you like.

To work with hard disk partitions in Windows, you need programs like the hero of my review EaseUS Partition Master Pro. With its help, you can format the hard disk, manage its partitions.

The program is paid, but until 08/23/2018 there is a good discount, which appeared for a reason. At the end of the review, the reason why I recommend purchasing this software is described.

For those who don't know

On any Windows 10 computer, you will find the main partition, where system and user files are stored, and hidden partitions with the recovery system and bootloader. Advanced users go further and independently divide the disk into several partitions in order to somehow organize the storage of documents or separate personal files from system ones.

In each partition, the file system is responsible for storing data. For example, the Windows system drive will definitely be in the NTFS file system, camera memory cards use FAT32 or exFAT, and USB flash drives can be either in FAT32 or exFAT, NTFS or (if you use Linux) ext3, ext4.

Information about what partitions are on the disk can be stored in different ways. The most popular standard is MBR- supported by a huge number of devices and operating systems, but, alas, the maximum partition size is limited to two terabytes. Therefore, modern PCs are increasingly using GPT which does not have this disadvantage.

Confusion arises due to two simultaneously operating standards. So I had an opportunity, in which the EaseUS Partition Master software helped a lot when I connected a new TOSHIBA HDWD130 hard drive for three terabytes. Relying on the capabilities of the Windows 10 operating system, I formatted the disk and got a metaphorical rake on my forehead, because the partition turned out to be much smaller than the declared one - 2 TB. It turned out that the manufacturer for some reason marked the partitions according to the MBR standard.

It was then that I remembered Partition Master, where you can visually see the list of partitions and painlessly partition the disk in GPT, using the maximum volume.

But the manipulations in the standard "Disk Management" did not help, Windows stubbornly saw no more than two terabytes. This happens with this system component, I did not reveal patterns.

EaseUS Partition Master Pro

You can download and buy the hard disk partition editor on the official website: EaseUS Partition Master Pro(button Free trial for a trial or "Buy Now" for purchase).

System requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP.
  • Hard disk space: at least 100 MB.
  • Processor: with a frequency of at least 500 MHz.
  • RAM: 512 MB or more.

Supports:

  • Devices: internal and external hard drives, solid state drives (SSD), USB flash drives, memory cards, RAID arrays (several physical hard drives work as one), etc.
  • File systems: NTFS, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, ReFS, EXT2, EXT3.

There are several versions of the software: Pro, server and Unlimited. There is an interesting table on the authors' site, which shows that the difference is only in price, supported operating systems and RAID-5 support. That is, the cheapest version of Pro is enough for a home user.

Without a purchase, the program works in a trial mode, which is enough to understand whether you need it on the farm. There is a free version of Partition Master, it does not know how to convert MBR to GPT and many other things, so it is not very useful.

How it works

EaseUS Partition Master Pro is a software not overloaded with whistles. The interface is clear and understandable. There are no settings, all the necessary options are specified during the execution of actions.

In the area of (1) a list of physical disks and partitions inside is visible. In the area of (2) - visual representation of the location of sections. In which area to click the mouse, you decide. No difference.

When one of the disks or partitions is selected, in the "Operations" section (3) a list of available actions appears.

For section:

  • Resize/Move partition- change partition size. It is often used to attach a “piece” of one section to another. Just reduce one, expand the other.
  • clone partition- clone disk partition. To do this, there must be enough unallocated space on the receiving disk.
  • Merge partition- merge partitions without data loss.
  • Convert to logical/Convert to primary- converting a partition to a logical type or a main one. For MBR only. Due to the limitations of this standard, there can only be 4 primary partitions. Using logical partitions allows you to bypass this limitation. Do not use on flash drives and memory cards, where logical partitions are not always visible.
  • Change label- change the disk label (which is visible in the "Computer" folder).
  • change drive letter- change or remove the drive letter altogether. A useful thing when, due to any failures, hidden partitions of the Windows disk become visible.
  • set active- for MBR, specifies the boot partition for starting the operating system from it (now it is no longer relevant).
  • hide partition- as far as I understand, it not only deletes the partition letter, but also changes its properties so that the letter is not assigned again. Use with caution.
  • Delete partition- delete the partition, leaving unallocated space after it.
  • format partition- format the partition to one of the supported file systems. The data will naturally be deleted.
  • Wipe partition- erase data from the partition so that no recovery programs will return them.
  • Properties- service properties of the partition and the disk on which it is located.

For disk:

  • Clone disk- clone the contents of the entire disk.
  • Convert MBR to GPT/Convert GPT to MBR- conversion without data loss from one partitioning type to another.
  • Delete all partitions- delete all sections in bulk.
  • Wipe data- clear the entire disk so that the data cannot be recovered.
  • Rebuild MBR- recreate MBR markup. Fixes some specific file table placement issues. Better not touch.
  • surface test- checking the disk for "broken" sectors. It is useful to scan the disc immediately after purchase to make sure there is no marriage, and after a year and a half of work.
  • Properties- some service information about the disk.

For empty disk space (Unallocated):

  • Wipe data- erasing the data that remained after deleting the partition.
  • Properties- some service information about the unallocated space and the disk itself.

Operations that affect changing partitions are not applied immediately. They appear in the list of pending actions (4). Need to press a button Apply (5) to start the process of changing partitions.

On the toolbar (6) there are several "chips" of Partition Master:

  • Migrate OS to SSD/HDD- the procedure for transferring the system to a new disk. If the system is transferred from a conventional hard drive to a solid state drive or vice versa, the program will change the Windows settings to the optimal ones for this type of drive.
  • 4K Alignment- alignment of virtual clusters (sectors for data storage) and physical ones. This will speed up read and write operations. In modern operating systems and the program itself, the partition position has already been adjusted during creation, but there are still many hard drives created in XP in the world ...
  • Cleanup and Optimization- launching a separate utility that can remove "junk" data, find and erase large files, and start disk defragmentation.
  • Wipe data- secure deletion of data from the media.
  • WinPE bootable disk- creating a bootable flash drive or CD / DVD, from which you can run a special version of EaseUS Partition Master that works without starting the main operating system. I recommend using it when you need to manipulate the system partition - so there is less chance of losing files.

Partition Master Pro in action

There are several nuances that novice users should know so as not to be puzzled later: “Why is the disk not visible in the Computer folder?”. They do not concern the program, everything is in order with it, but the disks: different media types need to use different file systems. I'll show you a good example with a portable HDD connected via a standard USB.

Section creation

When creating partitions on a new hard drive, be sure to check its type - MBR or GPT:

If you have Windows 10, it won't care, but GPT external drives may not open on Vista machines, and certainly won't open on ancient XP. So if you bought a new drive with a capacity of less than or equal to 2 TB and use it as a flash drive, convert the disk to MBR with the "Convert GPT to MBR" command.

This feature helped me when I got a new hard drive and decided to partition properly.

After that, right-click on the unallocated space and select "Create paritition".

A window will appear where you need to select the size of the disk and its file system.

If the disk should have multiple partitions, move the sliders to the right and/or left to make room for the rest.

The file system must be NTFS if it is a hard drive or SSD, and FAT32 for memory cards and flash drives.

Cluster size (cluster size), Drive letter (drive letter) and so on can be left untouched, everything is standard-optimal there. Unless you check the “Optimize for SSD” checkbox if your portable hard drive is not hard at all, but solid state.

Then " OK" and " apply" to apply the operations. It will turn out something like this:

In the unallocated space, you can create not one, but several partitions of arbitrary size.

Partitioning a hard drive

Let's say you need to create another partition on the disk. To do this, you need to shrink the existing one. Do this with the right button:

And indicate how much space to free up. For example, 100 gigabytes. This is done by shifting the round sliders or by direct indication in the digital input fields below.

A nuance concerning almost all programs for working with hard disks: due to the peculiarities of partition alignment, if you free up space "on the right", the moving process will be faster, because. typically, data on disks is stored at the beginning ("on the left"). But at the same time, unallocated space is formed on the left in several kilobyte(this is very little, if anything). If for some reason this is critical for you, do as in the screenshot above - free up space on the left.

Then click on the unallocated space and then, as in the usual creation of a partition.

The size of the resulting partition will be smaller than the unallocated space, as part of it goes to the needs of the file system.

Disk formatting

During formatting all data is deleted and the file system is recreated - the place where information about the location of all data on the media is stored.

Formatting is an unpleasant procedure, because you have to look for where to copy files from the media, but often this is the only way to make the flash drive work normally.

It is with portable media that the most problems, because users do not want to wait for the end of copying files and tear out flash drive from the USB port at the most crucial moment. When I first saw this, I was shocked. After the shock increased: it turned out that there is an opinion that files are copied to them instantly, and the copy progress indicator is just beautiful animation. And where does this nonsense come from?

In fact, when recording is interrupted (this also happens with dead cameras and camcorders), file tables are damaged, because memory cards and flash drives often use the very unreliable FAT32 file system. Checking for errors (in Partition Master there is a “Check” item for this) is not magical, you have to format the partition.

An interesting observation: in the partition manager from EaseUS, in the formatting options, you can only select the type of file system, cluster size, and label. In the standard Windows format utility, the full (long) formatting option is also available, when the data on the partition is erased so that it difficult restore (not impossible). Partition Master has a separate “Wipe partition” function for this.

Recovery of deleted and damaged partitions

Partition Master Pro has a "Partition recovery" function that returns an erased or damaged disk layout from oblivion.

A selection of the type of scan will open - quick or full. Full terribly long, choose only if you fail with the first.

Select one of the file system options found (there may be several), click on Pause (if the scan has not yet finished, and you are in too much of a hurry and the quality of the result is not important) and Proceed.

Pay attention to the blue bar in the screenshot below - the restored partition was filled with files.

After all the manipulations with creation, resizing and formatting, the original data is back! Not the fact that all the files on it will be complete, but at least something. For a more detailed recovery, you can try the product of the same developers

Outcome

EaseUS Partition Master Pro is a representative of adequate software for working with partitions on the most common types of storage media. Someone may not like the “paid”, but this is the price for the opportunity to get advice from technical support at any time. The program is simple, easy to use and not overloaded with irrelevant functionality.

Remember: make frequent backups, force majeure situations can never be ruled out. Data is perhaps the most valuable thing in a computer for its owner. Family photo and video archives, documents and work projects - all this must remain safe and sound at all costs.
