Colorful compositions

Probably everyone wants to achieve some bright and saturated colors of paints, and sometimes it is necessary to give some specific shade of paintwork. For such purposes, and used color for paint. Today I will tell you how to do the tinting with my own hands and at home. After all, often we need to achieve a color that you simply can’t buy in a store, as it consists of several tones. The most interesting thing is that color can be used not only for diluting paint, but also as a ready-made mixture for painting small surfaces. And today we will consider all aspects of this material.

Color tint

Varieties of pigments

I must say that now it’s very easy to choose the right color for your type of paint. Manufacturers present a wide range of pigment formulations that can be used on their own. By the way, color can be added not only to paintwork, but also plaster or putty, thereby giving it the necessary colors.

Important! Choosing the necessary pigment in the store, consider what kind of lighting will be in the room. The fact is that painted surfaces can have a different shade. Artificial lighting will make cold colors muffled and dark, but warm colors will brighten on the contrary.

Table of proportions of mixing paintwork materials and tint:

When mixing color and paintwork, do not overdo it. Although it is possible to obtain more saturated colors thanks to this, you can simply reduce the quality and properties of the paint.

If we talk about GOST, then the color is:

  1. Organic - the advantage of such can be attributed to the presence of a bright and saturated color. However, these compounds are very unstable to alkali.
  2. Inorganic - they have a small color variety, but they are quite lightfast

Material classification

In order to understand which colors are suitable for certain types of paint, I decided to draw up a small but understandable table:

Important! It is water-based paint that is the most popular for use in private homes and apartments. That is why one of the most popular can be safely called a color for water-based paints.

Consider some factors if you want to get the colors you need for water-based paints:

  • Immediately calculate how much tinting composition you need
  • Immediately browse the manufacturer's catalogs, they indicate the color of the material and the finished shades
  • If you have a desire to mix several shades and get some kind of complex color, then be sure to use mixing tables
  • When testing new shades and colors, do not immediately interfere with the paint with buckets, try mixing a small amount of material and look at the result. After that, you can safely knead a whole bucket of coatings.
  • After stirring a small amount of the color you want, apply it to the surface and wait for the paint to dry. After that, look at the result
  • A special nozzle on the drill will help you to thoroughly knead the entire mixture to the desired consistency. Only a good kneading allows you to achieve the desired result.
  • Do not forget that before applying to the surface of the mixture you need to mix again

Important! Although it is not difficult to mix paint with color, you can use this service in a hardware store. The point is that many specialized stores have special automated machines that allow you to mix paint to your desired shade. In this case, you don’t have to worry about the resulting color.

The price of such a composition is slightly higher than the paint mixed with your own hands - this should be taken into account when predicting your costs for color and paintwork.

DIY tinting

Add red color

The mixing technology is very simple and does not require any special skills. A novice who does not have any experience in painting surfaces will fully cope with this task. Do-it-yourself tinting is done when there is a desire to paint the room in several different colors. Do not forget that the colors should be compatible with each other.

The sadness of this process is that you will not be able to knead the same shade twice in a row, so immediately calculate how much mixture you need to stain. The process sequence is very simple, take the color, add it to the white coat and mix. However, consider some details:

  1. Use only one container for kneading - there is a possibility that in different containers the color will turn out different
  2. Keep track of the percentage of materials - if you go too far with the color scheme, you can lose the necessary qualities, and if you add less than the required, then you can not achieve the desired shade
  3. Immediately calculate the amount of material used - to get the same color twice will not work
  4. Do not forget to make a trial batch with a small amount of paint - mixing the entire mixture at once, you can spoil the material without achieving the desired color solution
  5. Do not rush to mix and apply the solution - the well-known proverb is valid even in this case

By the way, if you have a certain amount of color left, and you don’t need to use it, do not rush to throw away the material. Take a container with color and add a small amount of water, but do not mix or shake the container. After this trick, you can store color for up to five years. To get the most saturated shade, mix the pigmented mixture and paint before applying it to the walls - this can happen a couple of hours before the start of painting.

When you mix the color you need in advance, that is, more than 3-4 hours before the start of painting, there is a very high probability that the color will settle slightly and therefore the result of the shade will not be as saturated as it was originally.

Summary

You should not worry at all before starting tinting the materials you need. If you are not sure that you will get the right color the first time, then recording proportions and actions, you can experiment in small containers. For those who do not want to waste their time, there are automated machines that can knead the shade you need. Take into account all the nuances when using the color scheme, and then you get the necessary shade for you.

The times of ready-made decisions when choosing a paint color have already passed, and the beloved water emulsion has ceased to be associated only with a white ceiling. The use of colors allows everyone to get the best color solutions by adding and mixing them with white paint. However, in order for tinting to be successful, it is necessary to select the optimal tint for water based paint and know how to color the composition correctly.

Why is it profitable to use color

They are of organic origin in the form of soot, umber, chromium oxide, ocher. Due to poor light fastness and the ability to burn out under the sun, they are more often used for internal work. And inorganic: they have a more muffled color palette, but they differ in light fastness and burn out less.

The use of pearl color is very popular. This coloring pigment is perfectly diluted in water-based paint, it allows you to get a smooth surface on various texture substrates: plaster, wood, gypsum plasterboard, putty.

In addition, it has other equally important advantages:

  • affordable cost;
  • when using it, special tools are not required;
  • ease of use eliminates the need for specialists to work;
  • painted surfaces do not fade even when exposed to direct sunlight.

The choice of colors offered by manufacturers today is extremely diverse.

Rules for the selection of colors

To make the right choice, it is enough to conduct color-based testing at a specialized outlet. Also, modern manufacturers develop special tables for calculating the amount of tint for water-based paint, provide samples of both basic shades and mixed ones obtained by combining them in equal proportions.

When deciding how to choose the right color for water-based paint, you need to pay attention to such important aspects:

  1. The desired tone is best chosen in the room where the staining will be performed in order to evaluate it under natural and electric lighting. In daylight, the paint may appear paler or, conversely, brighter.
  2. The basis which is subject to coloring has value also. The sample offered at the outlet may have significant differences in texture from your surface, so there may be a difference between the shades.
  3. It should also be taken into account what consumption of the tinting composition is needed per 1 kg of material. This is necessary to acquire the necessary amount of dye. In the future, the desired color may not be on sale for various reasons, and tinting will have to be done independently, choosing a shade, guided by the art table of mixing different colors.
  4. Concentrate for tinting should be bought of the same brand, since the same colors from different manufacturers often differ in shade.
  5. In order for the flow rate to be economical and the dosage convenient, it is better to choose a coloring substance in a container with a narrow neck. This will allow you to dilute the color in a water-based paint drop by drop, stirring the composition until a uniform color is obtained. If you add a lot of tinting concentrate at once, then you may get too saturated color, which will spoil the feedstock.

In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to the quality of the paint base. It should be snow-white in color without impurities that, when tinted, can interfere with the desired shade. For example, if there are yellowish impurities in the working material, instead of a delicate peach hue, you can get a beige color.

How to color water-based paint

Tinting of water-based paint is carried out both independently and with the help of a special machine, in which all specified proportions are observed. Stores offer this service for free, however, the shade created by the machine does not always live up to expectations.

To mix colors, pre-prepare small clean containers, preferably if they are made of glass or plastic. You will also need a construction mixer or wooden spatula, rags, a substrate of paper, plastic film or thin cardboard.

When tinting paint at home, observe the following sequence of actions:

  • pour 100 ml of the main material into the prepared containers;
  • add 5-6 drops of dye, mix well;
  • start introducing a couple of drops of other shades, experiment and evaluate the result;
  • fix in a notebook what color of the tint and how much was added, this will allow you to calculate the necessary dye consumption for the tone you like;
  • do not forget that the paint dried on the surface becomes less saturated and bright.

During the experiment, try to obtain the obtained options on the surface and after about 5-6 hours evaluate the result. If everything suits you, you can start tinting the desired volume, focusing on the proportions in your records.

How to dilute the composition before starting paint work

Pour the right amount of water-based paint into the prepared container. Shake the vial with the coloring compound well so that it acquires a uniform consistency. Enter the desired shade in predetermined proportions, stir well.

In order for the quality of the composition to be optimal, the dye should be no more than 3% of the total weight of the water emulsion, that is, the color consumption per 10 liters of paint is 300 g.

To achieve the desired effect, test the resulting composition on a work surface, let it dry, examine it under different lighting conditions.

Before painting the surface with tinted paint, thoroughly mix the mixture again, since the coloring pigments tend to settle to the bottom.

Pour the remaining color for the water-based paint in the bottle with water so that it can maintain its original characteristics for 3 years.

Carrying out painting work during the repair is not only a responsible matter, but also a difficult one, since everyone ultimately wants to get a unique result. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to select the paint of the desired shade, and its tone should look favorably in the repaired room. It is not always possible to find the right color on store shelves, for this reason you have to tint the colors yourself. How to do this in accordance with all the rules - about this in our article.

Colorant - which composition to choose?

To date, you can easily find any dye on an organic and inorganic basis. The first option allows you to get rich shades, which, unfortunately, eventually lose their properties, fade and burn out. Inorganic additives are more resistant to atmospheric and other influences, however, their palette is much narrower compared to natural materials. The product range is presented on the market by universal colorants and compositions intended for certain types of paints.

To obtain the desired color, the amount of color varies from the type of paint material. So, for oil paints, the maximum amount of colorant should not exceed 1.5–2% of the total volume, in water-soluble coatings its amount can reach 20%, and a maximum of 5% is added to all others.

It is necessary to distinguish the concept of tinting and glaze. In the first case, color is added to the white paint to achieve the desired shade. The second term means mixing two different colors to produce a third (yellow + red = orange).

Manufacturers offer colorants in powder, liquid and paste form. For independent use, liquid dyes, which are produced in a small volume in syringes or bottles, are better suited. They are simple and easy to use. With their help, it is easy to change the shade of the paint, adding more dye for saturated color. In addition, it is allowed to use liquid tint for painting in undiluted form as a coloring material.

But for mixing on professional equipment, powders and pastes are better. Dry dyes are inexpensive, but with their help it is difficult to achieve the desired shade, and their choice of colors is small. As a rule, before adding the powder, it is diluted in a liquid that corresponds to the composition of the paints (varnish, water). Pasty materials require precise proportions from the master, otherwise the color may turn out to be much lighter or darker than the desired result.

Independent work to get the right color

No special skills are required for tinting. Do not be afraid to get to work, even if you had no such practice before. Even a novice will cope with tinting. The only rule that we must adhere to if we mix colorant with paint with our own hands is to make as much material as is necessary to paint the entire room, because, alas, it will not work out with the same color when mixed again, no matter how hard we try.

The technology for obtaining the necessary shade is quite simple. First, prepare the container where we pour the required amount of white paint. We recommend buying paint from one manufacturer, since each of them has its own composition, and the shade of white may vary. We measure out the required amount of tint according to the instructions to obtain the desired result. It is preferable to mix the paint before starting work, if our plans are to get a bright color, since over time the colorant settles, and the color becomes less bright. Constant mixing of the prepared mixture will help to cope with this.

For tinting, use snow-white paint to achieve the desired result. Using plain white paint can greatly disappoint you, as it has a yellowish tint that can distort the final version. For stirring we use a drill with a mixer specially designed for paints. To distinguish it from others is simple - all its elements are rounded. We introduce the colorant gradually, to begin with, add only 2-3 drops and look at the result. If a more saturated color is needed, add one drop of the color, continuously stirring the paint at low speeds. We continue to do until the resulting color completely satisfies us.

We tint paint on the professional equipment

Machine tinting allows you to get the desired shade based on basic white paint. Compared to the manual mixing method, computer selection allows you to more accurately and in minutes get the desired shade. For this, special tables are used, where all the colors obtained are displayed. Tables exist both on paper and in electronic form. Thanks to them, it will not be difficult to choose the necessary recipe that will help to get the desired color. In addition, machine mixing makes it possible to repeatedly create the necessary volume of the necessary colors, without fear of getting a different tone.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to prepare the paint of the desired shade in the machine at the place where the painting work will be carried out. Also, computer tinting in terms of the number of shades is significantly inferior to manual mixing, with which you can achieve truly unique tones. On the other hand, the machine-made cooking method reduces the kneading time to a minimum - the process takes about 5 minutes. This is extremely important, especially if you need to prepare a large amount of paint of the selected volume. It is impossible to cope with such a task manually.

The composition of the tinting system includes:

  • base paint (usually white tint);
  • colorant;
  • pigment paste dispenser;
  • mixer / shaker for stirring;
  • software.

In some cases, when the color for the paint is supplied semi-automatically or manually, formulations are used instead of the software, where the proportions of the component displacement are indicated. In a fully automatic mode, the machine independently doses the required amount of paste or dry matter according to the selected formula and, adding it to the base, mixes thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is obtained.

How to achieve the right color for different types of water emulsion

The most often chosen paint for the walls and ceiling in the house is a water emulsion. It is easy to apply. By adding pigment to it, you can achieve a variety of shades that cannot be found in finished form. However, not everyone knows that several types of water-based paint are available. Depending on the type of polymer used in the preparation of the base composition, acrylic, mineral, silicate and silicone compounds are isolated. Kohler for water-based paint is selected on a water basis, since it is compatible with all the compositions presented.

On the shelves of shops most often you can find acrylic paint. It is presented in a wide range and is very popular due to the price-quality ratio. Paint is made from acrylic resins and a number of additives that give the paint certain properties. So, for example, latex allows the use of acrylic paint in wet rooms, because it repels water. Kohler for acrylic paint universal is used, which allows you to use the resulting mixture for painting any surfaces. The paint dries quickly enough, which reduces repair work.

A more expensive water-based emulsion option is silicone-based paint. It is suitable for painting surfaces in wet rooms, while not creating a vapor-tight film, but allowing the surface to breathe. Water-based paint with the addition gives the surface an important property - it absorbs excess moisture and returns it when the air is dry. Such a paint after tinting is excellent for outdoor use, as it tolerates all weather conditions, but unfortunately it is not recommended to use it in rooms with constantly high humidity.

If it is planned to paint such surfaces as concrete, brick and plaster, then at the very time to use mineral water emulsion. It contains slaked lime or cement, which allows the paint to withstand moisture, chemically aggressive environments and ultraviolet. The color scheme for a water based paint based on mineral additives uses the most common. And you can prepare the desired shade in both machine and manual ways.

Before proceeding to obtain the desired shade, without fail we conduct test mixing. For these purposes, we take several identical containers, the volume of which is 100 ml - it will be easier to calculate the required amount of paint and dye. We start with 1-2 drops, especially if we have plans to prepare a mixture of light colors. If the result we are not satisfied with something, we begin to add dye 1 drop, while constantly mixing the composition. Upon reaching the desired result, note the amount of color added.

Do not rush when preparing the right tone, as the result may disappoint you. It is necessary to gradually add the colorant and mix thoroughly. If the color is more saturated than expected, you can add a little base.

When mixing several shades, be sure to use special art tinting tables from the manufacturer, which will help to achieve the desired result. After obtaining the desired shade, we paint with it a small area of the surface and wait for complete drying. This will allow us to see how the final result in the room will look. Be sure to compare how the color looks in natural and artificial lighting, because the differences can be huge. And do not forget that cold light gives the paint a bluish tint, and warm - yellowness.

For tinting the entire volume of the prepared paint, we observe the correct proportions of the base and dye. There is one rule: when preparing large volumes of mixtures, it is necessary to subtract 20% from the calculated color volume. We do this in order to achieve the desired color when fully dried, since the painted surface of large volumes looks much brighter than a small painted fragment. When painting small areas (up to 1 m 2), the proportions can be left unchanged.

It is far from always possible to find the right shade of paint on the shelves of construction stores. As a rule, standard colors are presented on the market, and to obtain the original shade, tinting of the paint will be required. Consider the variety of colors, features of manual and computer-based mixing methods, as well as step by step instructions coloring of paint.

  The need for tinting

Tinting is the process of mixing or diluting paints and pigments to achieve the desired shades. To get the optimum tone, you can order tinting in a specialized company or mix the colorant and the finished paint yourself.

Tinting is indispensable in the following situations:

  • selection of a shade for the interior of the room;
  • a small area of the painted surface is swollen, and reluctance to remove all the paint;
  • incorrect calculation of paint during repair - there wasn’t enough paint, and in stores this shade is gone;
  • selection of harmonious shades.

Tinting allows you to replace complex painting work with a small cosmetic repair

  What are tinting systems and their varieties

Get the perfect even tone of paint quickly and accurately using tinting systems. To do this, use the basic base paint and coloring compounds - colors. Colorings have a contrasting or saturated color. Coloring pigments colorants can be of organic or inorganic origin. Organic pigments are more often used to produce brighter tones, but they have some disadvantages:

  • not suitable for all types of surfaces;
  • over time, the paint burns out under the sun.

Inorganic pigments are represented by a limited range of shades, but they are resistant to weathering and fading.

Colorants are produced in the form of pastes, paints and dry formulations.

Color pastes contain dispersant resins or are available without a binder. There are universal pastes suitable for various types of paints, and highly specialized ones for certain paint and varnish categories.

The main advantages of color pastes include:

  • ease of use;
  • the ability to adjust the shade of the paint during the mixing process.

The disadvantage of a viscous color is the lack of standard characteristics of color and saturation of the paste. The end result may come as a “surprise” due to the uneven intensity of the color paste.

Color paintshave the same components as the paintwork materials for which they are intended - water-based, acrylic, oil-based, etc. The combination of white paint and such pigments allows you to get any shade. To obtain a very vivid effect, you can use the colorant in undiluted form.

Dry pigments have a relatively low cost. The disadvantages of bulk mixtures include:

  • narrow color palette;
  • the difficulty of adjusting the shade during the tinting process (adding dry pigments to the finished paint is not advisable).

  Overview of color schemes of domestic and foreign manufacturers

On the construction market there are a number of tinting systems of European, American and Russian production. Among foreign companies, Tikkurila, NCS, Hüls and others are popular. Stability and good quality are demonstrated by inexpensive domestic colorants Palitra (Izhevsk enterprise "New House"), Olki-Unikoler (St. Petersburg), Halo and Dali.

For tinting Tikkuril paints, the Tikkurila Symphony mixing system is used, composed on the basis of paint chemistry. The manufacturer guarantees an accurate result and "color". The system is designed for tinting general building and household interior paints. The Tikkurila Symphony color system includes a large number of colors - 2256 (of which 10 shades of white).

Separately developed a line of colors for facade work - "Tikkurila Facade." The system includes 232 colors for painting wood and stone surfaces.

To perform the tinting of antiseptics and varnishes, a separate group of Tikkuril tints should be used

The Natural Color System (NCS) is the Swedish and Norwegian standard for designating color shades. This is the generally accepted and most common tinting system in the world. The base of the NCS system consists of six basic colors: black - S, white - W, yellow - Y, red - R, green - G and blue - B. The rest of the colors are endowed with visual similarities to elementary tones and have their own encodings. Letter designations indicate the presence of one or another basic color, and digital ones indicate its quantity in percentage terms.

The Tex company produces colors based on imported pigments using high-quality German equipment. Tinting is available in the form of paints and pastes.

Tex color pastes are universal, applicable for tinting putties, water-soluble paints, alkyd materials and whitewash compositions. Kohler paste is frost-resistant.

Important! The permissible content of Tex paste is not more than 10% of the total paint volume. When working with the material, it should be noted that the result may vary depending on the quality and type of paint used

Color "Tex" paint is designed for water-dispersion paints, resistant to external factors. It is applied to internal and external works.

The company "Aqua-Color" (St. Petersburg) produces universal colors in the form of paste and paints. Pigments are used for tinting alkyd, oil, water-based paints, grout for joints, as well as cement and lime mortars. Kohler does not change the properties of the paint. Aqua-Color products are affordable and have a wide scope of application: apartment renovation, office premises, processing of building facades, etc.

The company "Olki" produces universal frost-resistant tinting pastes - "Unikoler", intended for tinting:

  • alkyd (pentaphthalic and glyphthalic) paints, enamels, varnishes;
  • waterborne primers and paints;
  • adhesive and whitewash formulations;
  • oil white paints;
  • epoxy, organosilicate and melamine-alkyd paints.

Important! Unikoler paste cannot be used as paint, since there are no film-forming substances in its composition

The Rogneda group of companies (Moscow) produces Dali tinting paints. The main purpose of the color scheme:

  • use as an independent coating of various surfaces - painting, decor, decoration;
  • tinting of decorative and water-dispersive building materials (plaster, paint, enamel).

Dali tinting paints have several advantages:

  • weather resistance (withstand temperature fluctuations in the range from -40 ° C to + 40 ° C);
  • light fastness (do not fade under the influence of sunlight);
  • high adhesion with different types of bases;
  • obtaining a wide range of colors of various saturation.

  Characteristics of the computer and manual mixing method

You can mix paint manually or using special equipment. Each of the methods has its advantages and disadvantages.

For manual tintingyou need to purchase a basic paint and a set of colorant. Immediately before coloring, the pigment is added to the paint in proportions according to the instructions and mixed. This method has the following advantages:

  • profitability;
  • the ability to tint at the place of repair;
  • you can create exclusive tones, including how many colors from the tinting catalog.

The main disadvantage of manual coloring - the resulting shade is difficult to reproduce repeatedly

Automated blending LMC controlled by a computer program. It is enough to choose the right color, and the machine itself will determine the proportions to obtain the desired shade and give the finished mixture. The advantages of the computer method are obvious:

  • accurate and fast colorization;
  • the ability to repeat the desired color;
  • tinting colors are represented by a wide range.

It is impossible to tint the paint using a machine method with reference to the object. In addition, in this way you can’t create a complex tone or shade.

  Features of tinting different types of paint

When choosing a color scheme, two main criteria must be taken into account:

  • place of repair work - indoors or outdoors;
  • type of paintwork.

Some pigments are universal - suitable for tinting different colors and are used to create the desired shade in the interior of a room or building facade.

When mixing colors with different coatings, the following rules are followed:

  DIY tinting: step-by-step instructions

The whole process of tinting paint can be divided into the following steps:

  1. Prepare several plastic containers.
  2. Measure out 100 ml of base and pour into one container.
  3. Add a few drops of dye to the base. If you need a more complex color, you can combine several colors at the same time.
  4. Record the amount of base used (100 ml), the number of drops of tint and describe the result of mixing.
  5. Mix the color with the base until a uniform tone is obtained.
  6. If the color seems pale, then you need to add brightness, dripping one drop.
  7. As soon as the desired color is achieved, it is necessary to paint a small surface and after drying to evaluate the result in daylight and artificial lighting. It is important to consider that based on the color of the paint it looks brighter than in the container.
  8. If the test mix is successful, you can tint the bulk of the paint:
    • calculate the required number of colors based on the volume of the base;
    • subtract 20% from the result obtained - this is necessary so that the final shade coincides with the test one (on a large area, the color looks brighter than on a small one).

Example. To obtain the optimal shade per 100 ml, 5 drops of color were needed, it is logical that 50 drops would have to be used to color 1000 ml of paint. However, it is not. Achieve the desired result if 40 drops of dye are added to 1000 ml

Tinting of paint can be done by yourself. The main condition is to act slowly, add pigment gradually and evenly mix the paint.

If during repairs in the house there is a desire to paint the walls with water-based paint, then the desired color can only be achieved using tinting. But getting the right tone at home for many is a very difficult task. Ready-made solutions do not always meet the needs of the owners of the apartment in which repairs are being made, and in order to get the best color solution, you often have to tint yourself.

Why do we need colors for water-based paint

When a complex color, which is not for sale, is needed in the interior of the room, then there is a need to obtain this shade on its own. For a complex color, it is better personally pick up a few tones to obtain the desired shade.

When it is planned to paint a room in two or more harmonious colors, then, of course, it is necessary to select the colors of the emulsion. Sometimes the selection of water-based colorings is necessary for a harmonious combination of the color of the walls and interior elements of the room.

From all of the above, one simple rule can be deduced: to obtain complex colors, it is better to mix the colors of the water emulsion in the room that you intend to paint yourself. In addition, choosing paint in this way, you can get the desired shade, which will not work when buying store analogues.

Color difference it happens for one simple reason: the tinting machine simply prepares the necessary shade of color, but it is able to change the shade by a tone lighter or darker depending on the illumination of the room, its area. Therefore, when purchasing finished products in a store, the consumer runs the risk of getting a darker or brighter room than was originally planned.

In the photo you can clearly see what colors of the colors for the paint are.

How to mix colors for aqueous paint

To select the desired shade of color, you must observe these simple rules:

What materials should be purchased for tinting an aqueous emulsion

The quality of the finished coating will not be significantly affected color producer and composition. The price of domestic paints and colors is much lower than imported analogues. All the difference between the colors is in the shades of the primary color from different manufacturers.

For those who do not have sufficient experience in the use of such material, it is better to choose a tube with a narrow neck as an educational option. The color should have the necessary color, and the base should be selected taking into account the type of surface to be painted.

Today materials are produced specifically for each surface, so there is no need to buy a ceiling base for walls. As a basis, it is better to purchase imported paint, because it should have a snow-white appearance. The presence of pigments can adversely affect the desired shade of color. And the yellowish shade of some raw materials cannot be deduced by anything.

Acquiring substandard products with a yellowish tint, there is a serious risk to get instead of the desired red - an orange tint, green can become light green, and mixing such a paint with a violet color can turn it into a dirty gray tone. In order not to spoil your mood at the very beginning of the coloring of the apartment, it is better not to stint on acquiring a high-quality snow-white foundation. In the photo you can see a universal color scheme for a water emulsion.

The composition that determines the type of water-based paint

Each type of paint and varnish is based on a certain type of polymer, which serves as the basis for each type of paint. It is better for a beginner in this business to study in advance all the characteristics of the types of paint and the scope of their application in order to choose the right option for repair.

All paint of this kind can divided into four types:

What should be considered during the calibration process

The process of tinting the paint to obtain the desired color does not look complicated if stick to a certain sequence ongoing work. In practice, it looks something like this:

  • Small jars made of plastic or glass are taken. All containers, as well as working hands and hands, must be clean.
  • The base of the paint is cast in one container and its volume is fixed on paper. Then a few drops of color are added, also reflecting the data on paper.
  • The mixture is thoroughly mixed until the paint has a uniform color. To begin with, add no more than three drops, then add one more to obtain the desired tone.
  • After obtaining the desired shade, it must be applied to the surface to be painted and it is better to paint as a sample a square measuring 40 by 40 centimeters. A day, after the paint has completely dried, the result should be evaluated under electric and natural light. The color in the jar is usually dimmer than on the surface.
  • If the tone is satisfied, then you can begin to prepare all the material. From the calculated amount of tinting should be taken away 20% when calculating the proportions. This is due to the fact that on a small square, the paint looks duller than on a large area where it will look brighter.

How to paint surfaces with water-based paint

All preparatory work may become in vain if the material is not applied correctly to the surface. Water based paint can be used for coloring concrete, brick, plaster, drywall and other similar materials. If you follow all the simple rules, then the paint will hold for a long time.

Before painting, you should remove all furniture from the room or cover it with a film. This is due to the fairly liquid consistency of the paint. Before painting the surface, it is necessary to conduct thorough preparation: remove peeling coatings, plaster if necessary, and wash off the old whitewash.

Flat walls with old water-based paint should be carefully wipe off dust and dry. So that old cracks do not stand out after painting, they should be repaired with putty. All smudges and stains on the old surface must be painted with oil paint that matches the color of the color.

All metal parts that may occur on the painted surface must also be coated with oil paint. It is better to take oil paint a tone lighter than the main color to paint the surface.

Before painting, the surface after processing should be coated with a primer. This is necessary for better adhesion of the paint to the painted surface, as well as for protection against dampness, which will extend the service life. After priming, it lays in a more even layer, which helps reduce material consumption.

Acrylic primer blends perfectly with this type of paint. You can apply the finished paint to the surface with a paint roller or brush, or with a spray gun. When using a spray gun, one should not forget about purchasing a respirator.

When applying with a roller, you should purchase a special tray that will help remove all excess. Apply it in vertical movements. Start painting the room from the farthest corner from the entrance. Apply this material to the surface in several layers. Re-staining should not be carried out earlier than four hours after applying the first layer. Paint application on the wall surface can be seen in the photo.
