It has antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. The mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of the so-called COX enzymes and the suppression of the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are formed from arachidonic acid.

The drug also inhibits the synthesis of platelets, relieves pain (especially in the joints and muscle tissues), relieves swelling of the joints and stiffness of movements, promotes an increase in range of motion.

Indications for use

Allocate local and external use of this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe indomethacin if:

  • degenerative and inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system (, chronic and, as well as);
  • soft tissue lesions of a rheumatic nature;
  • complex therapy (for infectious lesions of the ENT organs, prostatitis, neuritis, toothache and headache,).

Local application is possible with:

  • surgical interventions (prevention of inflammation);
  • inhibition of miosis during surgery.

External use is allowed if you have:

  • articular syndrome (gout, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis,);
  • traumatic inflammation.

Release form

The price of the drug varies depending on its form of release. Dragees will cost less, tablets - more expensive. In general, the following forms of indomethacin are common (they are found under various names):

  • Eye drops (a typical example is the French Indocollier, it costs about 220 rubles);
