Ancient Slavic symbols were used in Everyday life to receive the protection and help of the gods. Svarog - main God, creator of the whole Earth, Spouse of Mother Lada. Their children are Svarozhichi, the strongest deities responsible for the fire element - Svetovid, Lado, Perun. Special signs-symbols applied to clothes, dishes, homes help to receive protection from negativity from the Gods and assistance in new affairs and in modern world if used correctly.

The interaction and construction of energy and information flows in esotericism are described by runes. Runes are special system signs, possessing inexplicable, from the point of view of science, properties. The ability to build energy structures helps a person to influence the world. Before the advent of Christianity, runes were popular among Slavic tribes.

In the runic system, each symbol has its own name, a specific image and a relationship with one of the elements and a deity. If the rune is inverted, then its influence is reversed. Esotericists consider these symbols to be some kind of two-dimensional images that connect parallel dimensions and act as keys to the secrets of existence.

According to ancient Slavic mythology, Svarog is a heavenly blacksmith and the husband of Mother Lada. He created the Earth where people live, then Dazhdbog appeared from marriage, who created people and gave them the necessary knowledge and skills, including the plow and knowledge of metal. The most common symbol is the square of Svarog. This sign can still be seen today on some people in the form of tattoos and amulets.

Svarozhich

Svarozhich differs from other signs in that it is dedicated to Svarog not as a worker God or a creator God, but as the Heavenly Father of the Slavic Gods. Therefore, this symbol is associated not only with Svarog himself, but also with his children - the Svarozhichi. These are the universally revered Slavic Gods: Perun, Lelya, Zhiva, Morena, Lel and Polel. Stribog and Semargl were also created by Svarog.

He lit the sun. He is the ruler of the Earthly Kingdom, but he is also the creator. Svarog creates order on earth. He gives the laws of life. He fights the Black Snake, defeats him and drives him into the Underground Kingdom. He also creates the Kingdom of Heaven - the kingdom of the gods (Svarga, or Iriy). He cultivated the Irian (Eden) Garden. Svarog is also the creator of the entire starry sky (Svarga is also the starry sky), or the Wheel of Svarog, which Perun himself rotates.

Svarog was represented as a stern, broad-shouldered blacksmith. He sent people heavenly fire, gave people blacksmith tools, taught them how to forge iron - patronizes blacksmiths.

Svarog taught people to cook (create) cottage cheese and cheese from milk, which were once considered sacred food, a gift from the gods. God also created Blue Svarga - a country in the heavens where our glorious ancestors live. Bright stars are their shining eyes, with which grandfathers and great-grandfathers look from heaven at our earthly affairs. To “bungle” still means to create in a miraculous, masterful way. Cooking and “harp” can only be done with the help of fire and water (“var” - Sanskrit water). Svarog is the source of fire and its ruler. He creates not with words, not with magic, unlike Veles, but with his hands, he creates the material world. He took care of people: he gave them the Sun-Ra (hence our word joy) - and a fire on which they could cook food and with which they could warm themselves in the bitter cold. Svarog threw a plow and a yoke from the sky to the ground in order to cultivate the land; a battle ax to protect this land from enemies, and a bowl for preparing a sacred drink in it.
The Temple of the Most High with the altar-Alatyr stood on the slope of the sacred Mount Elbrus, the highest in the Caucasus (5600 meters). In ancient times, this mountain was called by different names: Bel-Alabyr, White Mountain, Belina. The Belaya River flows right here, and there used to be White City, where the Belogor people lived. All the names in these places are associated with the color of Alatyr - a white stone, when struck, sparks flew out. In the same area, until recently, there stood a majestic monument to the great Slavic-Russian hero, descendant of the Belogors, Bus Beloyar.

Perhaps one of the most important works of the Heavenly Father was the Small and Large Kola (circles) he created for times - earthly and cosmic. Svarog is the creator god and legislator, the father of the Svarozhichi (Perun, Dazhdbog-Radegast, Semargl-Fire and Stribog-Wind), a demiurge correlated with Hephaestus, according to a worldview that goes back to the Orphic tradition. Any forge, any forge is already a temple of Svarog, therefore, when arranging temples, a modern pagan should remember this. With a wooden idol of Svarog, the fire must burn, the metal must glow, and the idol itself must be covered with metal. At the temple of Svarog there should be a hammer (or a heavy iron stick-crowbar) and an anvil. It was Svarog who started the Iron Age and taught people to use iron tools. The sounds are pleasant to Svarog - since he is the first patron of crafts and all skilled people - the blows of hammers, the clanking of chains and the howling of fire.
Requirements are brought to Svarog either with cheese (syrniki) or cottage cheese. The word “cottage cheese” means created, it has the same root as the name Svarog, and is a symbol of heavenly bread. The role of the idol of Svarog can be played by a huge stone on which symbols of fire are inscribed.
The day of its celebration falls on November 14 - Svarozhka (the day of Kuzma and Demyan). They honor both father and son - Svarozhich-Fire.

At the beginning of time, when Svarog hit the 6-flammable stone Alatyr with a hammer, the Fire God Semargl was born from a spark carved from the stone, as well as all the heavenly Ratichi - Svarog’s warriors.

Svarog and Svarozhich are Father and Son. The Most High Himself also appeared as the son of Svarog. Svarozhichi were Perun and Semargl.

The Book of Veles calls Svarog Tvastyr, that is, the Creator. He is also Tvashtar of Ved India. You should also know that the image of Tvastyr Svarog in India merged with the images of the Vedic Tvashtar, as well as Isvar (Lord Shiva), Indra (the owner of Svarga) and Brahma. The Shaivites identified the creative power of Svarog with the Creator Shiva, and those who worshiped Indra did the same. Brahmanists identified the creative Word of Svarog with Brahma, consisting of the Vedas. Therefore, the Slavic iconography of Svarog is similar to the Hindu iconography of Brahma.

The myth was restored mainly according to folk legends about the battle with the Serpent of Kuzma-Demyan, the attack of Boris-Gleb, Nikita Kozhemyaka (who ousted Svarot and Svarozhich) and other related legends. See, for example: E.R. Romanov, “Belarusian collection” (Vyl. 4. Kyiv, 1885. P. 17). In these legends, magical blacksmiths (even Kozhemyaka and he is a blacksmith in the legend) forge in a fabulous forge, spread over 12 miles, it has 12 doors (according to the number of zodiac signs, like Vedic temples). 12 assistant hammermen are also mentioned. They forge a sword, a plow, a bowl (as in the Scythian legends about the Heavenly Blacksmith, set forth by Herodotus). It is also said that they “forged the first plow for people,” which, when compared with the news of the Ipatiev Chronicle for 1114 about Svarok, the first Heavenly blacksmith, allows us to identify Kuzma-Demyan (Boris-Gleb) and other later deputies with Svarot and Svarozhich Semargl.

“Kuzma-Demyan, people of old say, the first wine was the first man of God, as the retinue will be honored by Tsei Kuzma-Demyan was the first to forge and the first to crush the plow of the saint... (Kuzma-Demyan fought with the Snake.). This snake mercilessly devoured people, leaving no one behind: neither old nor small. Where it yawned, people died, like grass eating the horns of cattle, and like millet on the Sontsi...”

Semargla calls Fire God the “Book of Veles” (“smaga” in Old Russian - flame). The plot of the initial battle between the Creator of the World, the god of Fire and the Serpent is known to the Vedas and Avesta, but the song itself was preserved only in the Slavic tradition.

The description of Fire God is in the conspiracies: “Father, you are the Tsar of Fire, you are the king of all kings, you are the fire of all fires. How you burn and scorch grass-ants, thickets and slums in a field, underground roots of a damp oak tree, seventy-seven roots, seventy-seven branches... so they slept from the servant of God's sorrow..."

In the “Book of Veles” (Kryn 3:1) there is glorification of Semargl as the god of Fire and Moonlight

“We praise the Fire God Semargl, who gnaws the tree. Glory to him, the Fire-haired One, with a face that turns pink morning, noon and evening! And we give to him because he creates food and drink. And we keep him alone in the ashes. And it rises and burns over our land, from the time the Sun goes down, and until the Sun is born again, until it is led to and through the meadows of Khors.”

The glorification of the god of Fire-Sun is in the songs of the Bulgarians:

Fala ti Yogne God!
Fala ti Yasnu Sun!
You heat the chi on the ground.
Pekrenuvav sichka earth (...)
Pokrivash e tsrna Muggle,
but I’m poor and looking.
Praise be to you Fire God!
Praise be to you, Clear Sun!
You warm the earth...
(And if you leave us)
Black mist will cover everything,
Poverty and hunger will come.

Original and translation from “Veda of the Slavs”, XIII 1-35

Temples in honor of Svarog were built on hills overgrown with trees or shrubs. The center of the hill was cleared to the ground and a fire was lit in this place; no additional idols were installed in the temple. Horses and boars were sacrificed to Svarog, which were slaughtered immediately before the ritual fire, so that the blood of the victim fell into the fire.

Capabilities

Svarog controls heavenly fire and can create anything from it. But what is created does not appear magically, but through hard work.

Sphere of influence

Svarog lives in Prav and practically does not interfere in the affairs of other worlds, but it was he who brought fire to Reality and taught people how to process metal.

GOD ROD personification of the multitude of all the Light Gods and our many-wise Ancestors. The Supreme God Rod is One and Multiple at the same time.

When we talk about all the Ancient Gods and our Great and Wise Ancestors: Ancestors, Great-Grandfathers, Grandfathers and Fathers, we say - this is my family.

We turn to him when the Spiritual and Mental support of the Light Gods and Ancestors is needed, for our Gods are our Fathers, and we are their children.

The Supreme God Rod is the eternal symbol of consanguinity, the embodiment of the indestructibility of all Slavic Clans and Tribes, their constant interaction and mutual assistance to each other.

When a person from the Great Race or a descendant of the Heavenly Clan is born on Midgard-Earth, his future fate is recorded in the Santia or Haratiya of the God of the Clan, also called the Book of the Clan.

Therefore, in all the Rods they say: “No one can escape what is written in the Rod!” or “What is written with a pen in the Haratya of God of the Family cannot be cut down with an ax.”

The Supreme God Rod is the Patron God of the Palace of Busla (Stork) in the Svarog Circle. This served to create a folk allegorical Image that Busel (Stork) from Svarga the Most Pure brings children to prolong our Slavic Clans.

GOD SVAROG Supreme Heavenly God, who controls the course of our Life and the entire World Order of the Universe in the Explicit World.

The Great God Svarog is the Father for many ancient Light Gods and Goddesses, therefore we, the Slavs, call them all Svarozhich, i.e. Children of God Svarog.

God Svarog as loving Father, cares not only about his Heavenly children and grandchildren, but also about people from all Clans of the Great Race, who are the descendants of the Ancient Svarozhichi, the Light Heavenly Gods on Midgard-Earth.

But our Great and wise Ancestors, in addition to the Children and Grandsons of the Supreme God Svarog, also called the Heavenly Luminaries - the Suns and Stars *, as well as any Celestial body that appeared in the Sky and sometimes fell from Heaven to Earth (meteorites, fireballs, etc.) d.).

The Supreme God Svarog loves very much living nature and protects various plants and the most beautiful, rare flowers.

God Svarog Guardian and Patron of the Heavenly Vyry (Slavic Garden of Eden), planted around the Heavenly Asgard (City of the Gods), in which all kinds of trees, plants and the most beautiful, rare flowers are collected from all the Light Worlds from all the heavenly (i.e., under his control) Universe.

But Svarog cares not only about Heavenly Vyria and Heavenly Asgard, but also cares about the Nature of Midgard-Earth and other similar Light Lands located at the Border between the Light and Dark Worlds, on which He created beautiful Gardens similar to Heavenly Vyriya. The fruitful power of the rays of Yarila the Sun and rain showers sent by Svarog to Midgard-Earth warms and nourishes the flora and fauna of the earthly Garden-Vyria near Asgard of Iria, and also warms and nourishes the flora and fauna of the entire Midgard.

The Supreme God Svarog gives the necessary plant food to birds and animals. He indicated to people what food they needed to grow to feed their Clans and what food they needed to feed tamed birds and animals.

Vyriy Garden adjoins the Heavenly Asgard (City of the Gods), in the center of which are the Majestic Mansions of Svarog.

The Great God Svarog is the permanent Guardian of the Heavenly Palace of the Bear in the Svarog Circle. The Supreme God Svarog established the Heavenly Laws of ascension along the Golden Path of Spiritual Development. All Light Harmonious Worlds follow these laws.

GOD PERUN(Perkunas, Perkon, Perk, Purusha) Patron God of all warriors and many Clans from the Great Race, protector of the Lands and Clans of the Svyatorus (Russians, Belarusians, Semigallians, Glades, Serbs, etc.) from the Dark Forces, Thunder God, ruler Lightning, son of God Svarog and Lada the Mother of God, grandson of God Vyshenya. Patron God of the Hall of the Eagle in the Svarog Circle.

God Perun has already arrived on Midgard-Earth three times to protect it and the Clans of the Great Race from the dark forces of the Pekel World.

Dark forces come from different Halls of the Pekel World in order to lure people from the Clans of the Great Race to their full by deception, flattery and cunning, and if this does not help, then they kidnap people in order to turn them all into obedient slaves in their dark World and not let them opportunities to spiritually develop and move along the Golden Path, as was established by God Svarog.

Dark forces penetrate not only Midgard-Earth, but also other Light Lands in Svarga the Most Pure. And then a battle occurs between the forces of Light and Darkness. Perun already once freed our Ancestors from Pekel’s captivity and blocked the Interworld Gates leading to Hell on Midgard-Earth.

LADA-MOTHER(Mother Sva) Great Heavenly Mother, Mother of God.

Loving and tender Mother of the Most Light Gods of the Great Race, Mother of God-Patroness of all Nations and the Hall of the Elk in the Svarog Circle.

Heavenly Mother of God Lada-Mother is the Goddess of Beauty and Love, who protects the Family Unions of the Clans of the Great Race and the Families of all descendants of the Heavenly Clans.

In order to receive constant care and heartfelt attention from Lada-Mother, each newlywed couple brings the brightest and most fragrant flowers, honey and various forest berries as gifts to the Heavenly Mother of God, and the young spouses bake pancakes with berry filling and honey pancakes for Lada and placed in front of Kummir or Her Image.

The Most High Mother of God Lada always gives young spouses everything they ask for to start a happy life together.

It brings home comfort, friendliness, mutual understanding, love, continuation of the Family, many children, mutual assistance, family life, mutual respect and mutual veneration into people's lives. Therefore, they said about such Unions that only Lad and Love reign in them.

GOD VELES Patron God of cattle breeders and livestock breeders.

Since Veles is the Patron God and Ruler of the Heavenly Palace of the Wolf in the Svarog Circle, which is located next to the Heavenly Boundary separating the worlds of Light and Darkness, the Highest Gods entrusted Veles to be the supreme Guardian of the Heavenly Gates of the Interworld. These Heavenly Gates are located on the Golden Path of Spiritual Development, which leads to Heavenly Asgard, as well as to Heavenly Vyry and to the Bright Halls of Volhalla.

God Veles always personifies comprehensive care, painstaking creative diligence, honesty and determination, perseverance, constancy and masterly wisdom, the ability to be responsible for all one’s actions, spoken words and committed deeds.

God Veles, guarding the Heavenly Gates of the Interworld, allows only the Most Pure Souls into Svarga

those deceased who did not spare their lives in defense of their Clans, in defense of the lands of Fathers and Grandfathers, in defense ancient faith who worked diligently and creatively for the prosperity of their families and who from the bottom of their hearts fulfilled the Two Great Principles: to sacredly honor their Gods and Ancestors and who lived according to conscience in harmony with Mother Nature.

VIRGIN MAKOSH Heavenly (Sva) Mother of God, Just Goddess of a happy lot and Fate.

Together with his daughters, Dolya and Nedolya, he determines the Fates of the Heavenly Gods, as well as the fates of all people from the Great Race and all descendants of the Heavenly Family living on our Midgard-Earth and on all other beautiful Lands of the Most Pure Svarga, weaving for each of them the Threads of Fate .

Therefore, many people turned to Goddess Makosha, so that she would trust her youngest daughter, Goddess Dole, to weave the Thread of Fate into a ball. Goddess Makosh at all times was a very attentive and caring Patroness of weaving and all kinds of handicrafts, and also made sure that a good harvest grew in the fields where the orachi (peasants) put their Soul into their hard work.

It should be remembered that the great Heavenly Goddess Makosh is not only the Patron Goddess of growth and fertility, as many might think, but a Goddess who gives hardworking and diligent people a good harvest.

For hardworking people, the Goddess Makosh is the giver of all sorts of blessings, therefore, on the Images and Kummiras of the Goddess Makosh, she was very often depicted with the Horn of Plenty or its symbolic image in the form of a Heavenly Ladle of Seven Stars (the Constellation Ursa Major).

To those Clans from the Great Race and to all the descendants of the Heavenly Clans who were not lazy, but worked in the fields, gardens and vegetable gardens by the sweat of their brow, putting their Soul into their hard work, the Goddess Makosh sent her youngest daughter - the blond Goddess Share.

Those same people who worked poorly and carelessly in their fields (no matter what Family they were from) received a bad harvest. Therefore, people said that “Makosh Dolya came from Makosh to measure the harvest” or “Makosh sent Nedolya to measure the harvest.”

For hardworking people, the Goddess Makosh is the giver of all sorts of blessings, therefore, on the Images and Kummiras of the Goddess Makosh, she was very often depicted with the Horn of Plenty or its symbolic image in the form of a Heavenly Ladle of Seven Stars.

Orthodox Old Believers-Ynglings, invariably following all the instructions of the Goddess Mokosh, strive for a calm and measured life, for the ancient traditional way of life, for sensual empathy and hard work.

Goddess Makosh rules the Hall of the Heavenly Swan in the Svarog Circle. Therefore, the Goddess Makosh is very often depicted as a White Swan, floating along the endless Sea-Ocean, i.e. in the sky.

In honor of the Wise Heavenly Mother of God, the Slavs and Aryans erected the Great Kummirni and Temples, for the Goddess Makosh personified not only fate, luck, prosperity in the Slavic Clans, observing the laws and commandments of the Ancient Light Gods, people also turned to her with a request to increase their Ancient Clans, t .e. asked for more children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

DAZHDBOG God Tarkh Perunovich, Guardian God of ancient Great Wisdom.

He was called Dazhdbog (the giving God) for giving the people of the Great Race and the descendants of the Heavenly Family Nine Santiy (Books).

These Santias, written down by ancient Runes, contain the Sacred Ancient Vedas, the Commandments of Tarkh Perunovich and his instructions. There are various Kummirs and Images depicting God Tarkh.

In many Images he holds a gaitan in his hand.

Tarkh is very often called the many-wise son of God Perun, the grandson of God Svarog, the great-grandson of God Vyshen, which is true.

Dazhdbog is the giver of all blessings, happiness and prosperity. Tarkh Dazhdbog was glorified in sacred and folk songs and hymns not only for the happy and worthy life of the Clans of the Great Race, but also for deliverance from the forces of the Dark World. Tarkh did not allow the victory of the dark forces from the Pekel World, which were gathered by the Koschei on the nearest Lupa - Lele, in order to capture Midgard-Earth.

Tarkh Dazhdbog destroyed the Moon along with all the dark forces that were on it. This is reported in the “Santia Vedas of Perun. First Circle”: “You have been living peacefully on Midgard since ancient times, when the world was established... Remembering from the Vedas about the deeds of Dazhdbog, how he destroyed the strongholds of the Koshchei, who were on the nearest Moon... Tarkh did not allow the insidious Koschei to destroy Midgard, as they destroyed Deya... These Koschei, the rulers of the Grays, perished along with the Moon in half... But Midgard paid for freedom, Daariya hidden by the Great Flood... The waters of the Moon created that Flood on the Earth They fell from Heaven like a rainbow, for the Moon split into pieces and an army of Svarozhiches descended to Midgard" (Santiya 9, shlokas 11-12). In memory of this event, a kind of ritual with a deep meaning appeared (This ritual is well known to everyone. On Paskhet (Easter) painted eggs hit each other, checking whose egg is stronger. The broken egg was called the Egg of the Koshcheev, i.e. the destroyed Moon ( Lelei), and the whole egg was called - the Power of Tarkh Dazhdbog.), performed by all Orthodox people every Summer, on the great spring Slavic holiday - Paskhet.

Very often in various ancient Vedic texts, Tarkha Perunovich is asked to help people from the Clans of the Great Race by his beautiful sister, the golden-haired Goddess Tara. Together they performed good deeds and helped people settle in the vast expanses of Midgard-Earth. God Tarkh indicated the best place to place a settlement and build a Temple or Sanctuary, and his sister, Goddess Tara, told people from the Great Race which trees should be used for construction. In addition, she trained people to plant new forests in place of felled trees, so that new trees needed for construction would grow for their descendants.

Dazhdbog Tarkh Perunovich is the Patron God of the Palace of the Race in the Svarozh Circle.

GOD KUPALA(Kupalo) God, who gives a person the opportunity to perform all sorts of Ablutions and conducts Rituals of Cleansing the Body, Soul and Spirit from various ailments and diseases. God who guides you to a joyful and happy life.

Kupala is a cheerful and beautiful God, dressing in light white robes decorated with flowers. On the head of God Kupala there is a wreath of beautiful flowers.

Kupala was revered as the God of the warm time of Summer, wild flowers and wild fruits.

Many Slavic Clans engaged in field farming revered God Kupala along with the Goddess Makosh and Goddess Tara, as well as the Gods Perun and Veles.

Before the start of the harvest and the collection of field fruits, a holiday was celebrated in honor of God Kupala, at which bloodless sacrifices were made to God Kupala, as well as to all the Ancient Gods and Ancestors.

On the holiday, the Slavs throw their bloodless sacrifices and prayers into the fire of the Holy Altar, so that everything sacrificed appears on festive tables Gods and Ancestors.

After making bloodless sacrifices from the living fire of the Sacred Altar, the Communists light candles and firelights, which they fasten on wreaths and rafts and send them down the rivers.

At the same time, Orthodox Christians from various Communities say their innermost desire or request for deliverance from illnesses, all kinds of failures, various problems, etc., on a candle or fire candle. This ritual can be explained as follows. A burning candle or firelight illuminates the request or desire of the Communities, the water of the river remembers them and, evaporating, rises to Heaven, conveying to the Gods all the requests and desires of the Orthodox.

At the holiday, each of the Orthodox must undergo complete cleansing in order to begin gathering the fruits of the field and the beginning of the field harvest, fully cleansed. The complete cleansing of the Orthodox consists of three parts:

  1. First cleansing (Body cleansing). Everyone present at the holiday on God's Day Kupala must wash their body in sacred waters (rivers, lakes, reservoirs, etc.) to wash away fatigue and dirt.
  2. Second cleansing (Cleansing of the Soul). In order for those present at the holiday on the Day of God Kupala to purify their Soul, large bonfires are lit, and everyone jumps over these bonfires, for Fire burns away all ailments and cleanses the aura and Soul of a person.
  3. Third cleansing (Purification of the Spirit). Each Community member present at the holiday on God's Day Kupala, as well as those who wish, can cleanse and strengthen their Spirit. To do this, a Circle of Fire is created from the burning coals of a large fire, along which Slavs from various Tribal Slavic Communities walk barefoot. Those who wish to walk through the coals for the first time in order to cleanse and strengthen their Spirit are led by the Community by the hand through the Circle of Fire.

This holiday is inextricably linked with another ancient event. In ancient times, God Perun freed his sisters from captivity in the Caucasus and sent them to cleanse themselves in the waters of the Holy Iriya (Irtysh) and in the Smetannoe Clean Lake (Zaisan Island). This event is also narrated in the fifth ball of Songs of the Bird Gamayun.

Due to the fact that Kupala is the Patron God of the Heavenly Palace of the Horse in the Svarog Circle, on this day it is customary to bathe horses, braid multi-colored ribbons into their manes and decorate them with wildflowers.

GOD KOLYADA The Supreme God, who controls the Great Changes in the life of the Clans of the Great Race and the descendants of the Heavenly Clans.

In ancient times, the Supreme God Kolyada gave many Clans who moved to the western lands a system of calculating seasonal time for conducting field work - the Calendar (Kolyada's gift), as well as his Wise Vedas, commandments and instructions.

Kolyada is the Patron God of military men and Priests. Kolyada was often depicted with a sword in her hand, with the blade of the sword facing downward.

A sword facing downward in ancient times meant the preservation of the Wisdom of the Gods and Ancestors, as well as unshakable adherence to the Heavenly Laws, as established by God Svarog for all the Halls of the Svarog Circle.

The holiday in honor of God Kolyada falls on the day of the winter solstice; this holiday is also called Menari, i.e. Day of Change. On the holiday, groups of men dressed in the skins of various animals (mummers), who were called Kolyada squads, walked around the courtyards. They sang hymns glorifying Kolyada and organized special round dances around sick people to heal them.

Svarog (Old Russian: Svarog, Sovarog) - according to the Slavic translation of the chronicle of John Malala - the blacksmith god, the father of Dazhbog. According to some researchers, he is the supreme god of the Eastern Slavs, heavenly fire. Some researchers identify Svarog with Svarozhich.

Etymology

Researchers have long been attracted by the consonance of the theonym Svarog with ancient Indian. svarga "sky, heavenly". Based on this consonance, a conclusion was drawn about the linguistic relationship of these words and even about the functions of Svarog as Slavic deity. Nowadays, thanks to the theory of O. N. Trubachev about the Indo-Aryan linguistic substrate in the Northern Black Sea region, attempts are being made to substantiate this hypothesis about the Indo-Aryan origin of the theonym Svarog. This theonym was, according to Trubachev, borrowed by the Slavs from the Indo-Aryans in the Northern Black Sea region and comes from the same svarga “sky, heavenly”.

O. Trubachev’s theory about the Indo-Aryan linguo-ethnic component in the Northern Black Sea region was, on the one hand, criticized by a number of Iranianists (E. A. Grantovsky, D. S. Raevsky) and Indologists (M. Mayrhofer), and at the same time supported by the German Indo-Europeanist Wolfgang Schmidt (German) Russian, Russian Indologist V. N. Toporov, as well as Russian Iranian and Indologist D. I. Edelman, who, referring to the works of O. Trubachev, considers it possible both to preserve the Indo-Aryan element in the Northern Black Sea region and and the penetration of Indo-Aryan borrowings into the Slavic languages, which are not always distinguishable from borrowings from Iranian.

Also, the Italian Slavist M. Enrietti, relying on O. Trubachev’s theory about the preservation of the Indo-Aryan element in the Northern Black Sea region, admits the possibility of direct borrowing of the theonym Svarog into the Slavic language from Indo-Aryan. In turn, archaeologist and social anthropologist L. S. Klein, for example, sees no other alternatives in the case of the theonym Svarog, except to agree with the Indo-Aryan hypothesis. M. Vasmer writes that the theonym Svarog is associated with Praslav. svara, svarь, as a result of which the name itself takes on the meaning of “arguing, punishing.” V. J. Mansikka also mentions rum, borrowed from the Slavs. sfarogŭ, švarogŭ “dry, burning.”

According to myths

From the sacred language of the Aryans, Sanskrit, the word “Svarog” is translated as “walking in the sky.” In ancient times, it was used to designate the daily path of the sun across the sky, then it began to be used to refer to the sky in general, heavenly light. In other words, the son of Rod, the god Svarog, is the Heavenly Father. Sometimes he was simply called God.

Svarog cooked (cooked, created) the earth. He found the magic stone Alatyr, cast a magic spell - the stone grew and became a huge white-flammable stone. God made the ocean foam for them. The thickened moisture became the first dry land. In the Indian Vedas this creation is called the Churning of the Ocean. He also used Alatyr for other important purposes: he hit it with a hammer - from the sparks flying in all directions, new gods and ratichs - heavenly warriors - were born.

In later times, the great half-horse wizard Kitovras (the Greeks called him the centaur Chiron) built a temple in honor of the Almighty around Alatyr. This is how the word altar appeared - the most Holy place in the temple.

“To bungle” still means to create in a miraculous, masterful way. You can cook and “jaw” only with the help of fire and water (“var” – Sanskrit, water).

Svarog is the source of fire and its ruler. He creates not with words, not with magic, unlike Veles, but with his hands, he creates the material world. He took care of people: he gave them the Sun-Ra (hence our word joy) - and a fire on which they could cook food and with which they could warm themselves in the severe cold.

The Belaya River flows right here, and the White City used to be where the Belogor people lived. All the names in these places are associated with the color of Alatyr - a white stone, when struck, sparks flew out. In the same area, until recently, there stood a majestic monument to the great Slavic-Russian hero, descendant of the Belogors, Bus Beloyar.

Perhaps one of the most important deeds of the Heavenly Father was the Small and Large Kola (circles) he created of times - earthly and cosmic.

Attributes of God Svarog

Veneration and analogues in other mythologies

Little information has been preserved about Svarog. He was not included in the list of “Vladimir’s” gods, but is mentioned in some ancient Russian written sources. It is known that in Slavic mythology he was revered as the god of fire. “Svarog” or “Svarozhich” was the name given to a personified blazing fire on the altar or in the hearth. In one of the ancient Russian teachings against paganism of the 14th century. it is said that the pagans “put their needs to their idols and cut chickens for them and pray to the fire [they pray to the fire] calling him svarozhits [calling him svarozhich].” In the Slavic translation of the Chronicle by John Malala (XII century), Svarog is correlated with the ancient Greek god of fire Hephaestus. It is also indicated here that Svarog is the father of Dazhbog, the deity of the Sun. Modern researchers believe that deeply revered by the Eastern Slavs, as evidenced by written sources, Svarog (Svarozhich) was still at the time Ancient Rus' was rather not a fully formed deity, but rather the personification of the natural element of fire. It is no coincidence that he did not enter the pantheon of higher gods created by Prince Vladimir. At the same time, the cult of fire as one of the forces of nature continues to be preserved in folk tradition still.

If we draw analogies with the gods of Greece, then a similar god here is Hephaestus - the god of blacksmithing and marriage, as well as Uranus - the personification of the sky, the spouse of the Earth. In ancient Roman paganism, an analogue of Svarog could be Jupiter - the god of the sky, the supreme god of the Romans, as well as Vulcan - the god of fire and blacksmithing. During the establishment of dual faith in Rus', Kuzma-Demyan took over the role of Svarog. Kuzma and Demyan are Christian saints, healers, miracle workers who folk ideas merged into one divine character, and took on many of the traits of Svarog. This most likely happened due to the similarity of the name of one of the saints - Kuzma, which is very similar to the word “blacksmith”.

Among the Baltic Slavs, Svarog is called Radogost, in Slovakia and the Czech Republic - Rarog. There is a well-known sanctuary of Svarog in the Polish settlement of Radogost. Once upon a time, on the highest peak of the Caucasus, Elbrus, there was also a temple of the Most High, with an Alatyr-altar, and the mountain was called White Mountain, Belina, Bel-Alabyr. There was also a White City, the people who inhabited it were called Belogors. All local toponymy is in one way or another connected with Alatyr, a white stone from which sparks are struck when struck.

Symbols and amulets of God Svarog

Several symbols and amulets of God Svarog are known:

  • Konegon,
  • a sign called “Svarog Square”, “Svarog Forge”, “Svarog Cross”, “Svarog Star”,
  • Svarozhich,
  • Svarga,
  • Hammer of Svarog

“Symbol of Svarog” – Konegon

The symbol of Svarog is a swastika sign, in the center of which is not a dot, but a square-diamond. The sign has right angles, the ends of the rays are bent with salt and their continuation at the opposite end, which has no restrictions. If you look closely, the sign is made up of four schematic figures that resemble a simple plow. The power of the sign of Svarog is endless, has no limitation, no end, it extends to all four sides. This suggests that Svarog is still creating today. The name known in the north is “Konegon” or “Konegon”. More information about what this amulet gives and what it protects from is in the article “The sign is the symbol of Svarog: an action for whom it is suitable”

“Star of Svarog” (“Svarog Square”, “Svarog Forge”, “Svarog Cross”)

The symbol called the “Star of Svarog” or “Square of Svarog” is another sign of God that is often used by the Slavs. Sometimes this symbol is called the “Star of Rus'”, which is not entirely correct - this is the name of the symbol related to the Goddess Lada. The shape of the image is an outer square, an inner rhombus, intertwined with ellipses with pointed ends. The symbol is very similar to the Lada Star, but is only included in a square and the protruding ends of the ellipses are not rounded. The power of the square has great potential for creative power and strength.

Day of God Svarog

In the northern tradition of the Slavic peoples, there are no known holidays specifically dedicated to God Svarog. He is honored at holidays along with the other Gods. After all, He is the supreme deity of the Slavs, present in every phenomenon. However, in the customs of today's Rodnovers, November 14 is dedicated to Svarog. At this time they like to light fires and wash themselves with clean water - these two elements were revered in honor of God. Glorifications are held in his honor, his glorious military exploits and commandments are remembered.

Svarog, the god of the Slavs, is the Father of the entire Universe, the first founder of the human race. The entire pantheon of Slavic gods begins from Svarog. The name Svarog means “the one who bungled, that is, created the world.”

According to ancient Slavic legends, Svarog threw his sword into the waters of the world's oceans. As a result, the water in that place parted and dry land rose to the surface. The first gods - the god of fertility among the Slavs - Dazhdbog, Stryi and Semargl appeared from the hammer of Svarog, with which he struck his Altar several times.

Characteristics of Svarog

For the Slavs, Svarog was a symbol of a father - a warrior who patronized his family, protected and protected it. Svarog was not only a secular mentor, but was also a spiritual guru who knew how to gather the entire clan together in case of danger and motivate them to fight the enemy.

According to mythology, Svarog has similar features to the ancient Greek god - the blacksmith Hephaestus. But one of the main differences between the Slavic Svarog - the god of fire and the ancient Greek Hephaestus is that in Ancient Greece fire has always been a symbol of an invincible force that destroys everything in its path. The ancient Slavs always associated fire with vitality, and the flame was used in rituals as an attribute that cleanses the soul.

Svarog, the god of the Slavs, has always been for the benefit of people, and his burning earthly power harmed only those who, through carelessness, touched the fire. What is fire on the scale of the Universe? This:

  • warm,
  • life,
  • the basis of the universe.

Svarog is the father of fire, he is the god who commands fire. Svarog commands life, correcting its course.

Initially, the world that was created by Svarog did not have any dynamics, it was static and faceless, until the god of wisdom, Veles, descended into it.

Acts of Svarog

How does Svarog perform his actions? He does not use the power of thought or magic. His strength is in his hands. Svarog is a symbol of work, which teaches by example that you need to work hard and with dedication - this is the basis for receiving all benefits. “Only work allows a person to achieve certain heights and take a high, honorable and respected place in his society.” Svarog is the god of Heaven.

The name Svarog itself has an etymology from Sanskrit, and “sva” is translated as “sky”. According to the etymology of the name of God from the Indo-Aryan language, “svar” means “sun”. That is why the Slavs called the solar road Svarga.

Symbolism

God Svarog is the father of all life on Earth. The symbol of God is a geometric square figure with eight rays. In the pantheon of Slavic gods, only the goddess Lada has the highest number after Svarog - her symbolic number is nine.

In numerous images of Svarog, he looks like a forty-year-old man, a brave hero. In quiet times, Svarog was depicted in a simple linen shirt, the sleeves of which were rolled up to the elbows, and his hand clutched a massive hammer, from the blows of which the Universe and all living things in it appeared. When the Slavs were at war, they depicted Svarog as a brave warrior of light, who was dressed in powerful armor of a dark burgundy color. In some military images, Svarog holds a giant sword with both hands.
