Then everything that concerned this nomination did not seem surprising to me. At that time, I really sang for a long time, but a completely new team was related to my song “I won’t give you up”. There were three songs before it, which, of course, went to my piggy bank, but only in this one we accumulated the entire charge of energy. It turned out that “I won’t give you up” “shot” like never before. And in my career it was the first track that became a "fat" hit, with which we took the lead on the radio stations, in the charts and received millions of views. So this was the best start.
As for a career... When a child grows up, and his dreams do not change, parents should understand what to pay attention to in the first place. This is what I say to future moms and dads. If a child wanted to be a singer as a child, he did not deviate from this, despite the fact that his mother told him: “Keep a hundred rubles, but just don’t sing!”. My parents did not take this seriously, did not support at first, and we had big conflicts. I am such a “horse with eggs” - I was able to leave my absolutely comfortable and well-fed childhood under the auspices of my parents. For a long time, my mother was afraid that I was doing everything wrong, and in general I was not the “horse” to bet on. But it turned out that I am a beautiful stallion! (laughs)
Artifex: If we talk about the beginning of your creative path, what difficulties awaited you in the capital?
I flew to Domodedovo and after half an hour I wanted to buy a ticket home (laughs). Now, I don't know how I ever got around to doing that. Difficulties exist even today, they are just not so tangible anymore. Some radio stations are biased towards me, believing that I do not fall under their format. There aren't many of these left, and I'll definitely finish them off! You must always prove your right to be and break stereotypes. What do you need to be prepared for? To the fact that you are not perceived and not much favored. There are always more difficulties than victories. The main thing is that the victories should be so big that the difficulties would become invisible.
Artifex: Today you are a living success story of a simple guy. When you achieved that your song sounded on a cool radio station, what was the reaction?
It was two in the morning, my brother and I were driving to the gym in the car and heard my song “Let My Soul Go” on the radio. We stopped, went outside and shouted very loudly with joy. When you understand and accept the moment that your song is played on the largest radio station in the country, you realize that the dream has come true. We were wildly happy and understood that we had a lot of work ahead of us. It was a feeling of total happiness.
Artifex: And then your other song sounded all over the country, that sensational hit “I won’t give you up”. Let's talk then about how this "musical bomb" was created.
They sent me a song that, in the opinion of my team, would suit me. I listened to it several times and decided that I would not sing. Did not feel this song and abandoned it. It is at such times that it is very important to have the right people in the team. The key was the order of the producer, who did not ask me if I wanted it or not, but simply said: “We must.” I went to the studio and started looking for something to change in the song. After all, if you sing something uncomfortable for yourself, then it will not work. For about a month, we changed everything in the source code. I think when the authors heard this song, they hardly recognized it. But as long as we did not achieve that I became comfortable existing in this material, we did not get ahead of ourselves. Everyone understood that the main stage was taking place - subtle matters were laid in the song. In the end, I asked only one thing - I didn’t want the music to be too fashionable ...
Artifex: Fashionable in what way?
It would be possible to make just the music that will definitely work today. I didn't want that. To date, most radio stations have acknowledged that I managed to fill such a "nudist" niche in music, in which no one works yet. I want it to be music like from the 90s, but in a modern way. We have the same mentality! All Soviet tunes and sounds are so close to the majority that it works at the level of the unconscious. And, you know, there is mysticism! There are videos of cats on social networks. We puzzled for a very long time - why cats? And then we realized that our song went on the Internet also because the second line in the chorus sounds almost like "don't chase the cat." The apogee of this consonance was an invitation to a cat show! We made a hook in the song that people cling to (laughs). Magic!
Artifex: Absolute! I also tried for a long time to understand what kind of cat and where not to drive, to be honest. But it is even more interesting that Alex Malinovsky himself creates all this magic - after all, you write some songs yourself ...
Sometimes it doesn’t matter to me at all - I will write a song or not, I won’t beat my forehead against the wall for it. Why not sing what you just feel? Because ambition gets in the way of singing a song from someone? I don't understand when artists underestimate their authors. To give in the muzzle! The time of Pakhmutova and Dobronravov has gone, and now the authors have written a song, received not the biggest fee, and no one knew about them. I always appreciate and love my authors. For example, German Titov and Natalya Kasimtseva. Of course, I write songs myself. But I don’t have a categorical attitude to the fact that I should sing only my own songs.
Artifex: In any case, all these songs have long and firmly entrenched in you. What do you think your music gives the listener?
You know, Dunayevsky says that you can't wait for a muse, because writing a song is work, and you just need to sit down and do it. I think it's nonsense. If you didn’t wait for that very muse, you didn’t get insight from above, but wrote the song under duress, it won’t work. Therefore, I put a piece of myself and my experiences into each of my tracks, no matter how grandiloquent it may sound. When people listen to my music, I really hope that they are immersed in its atmosphere and it becomes easier for them. But most importantly, I believe that my music can give them faith. I believe that everything is possible.
Artifex: Who else but you can talk about faith in yourself. After all, I remember how about five years ago you sang the song "You are alone." It was support for a march dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. So I want to ask how music can help people, in your opinion?
It is not in vain that when we feel bad, we listen to music - weep, remember and heal under it. No wonder we turn on the music when we feel good - we dance, have fun and go into a kind of trance. We did not come up with the idea that music heals, but it still remains the pure truth. We often go to orphanages and help children with cancer. When you arrive and see children's eyes full of hope, you sing for them, talk and see how they recharge. It is very important when something from the outside appears, diluting the routine. How many cases are known when medicine was powerless, and at the level of psychosomatics and self-hypnosis, people got rid of the disease. Let's hope it works and my music is no exception.
Artifex: Once you asked yourself a question: “Do not try, and then regret it all your life?” What crazy things are you willing to do to make what you believe in a reality?
Let's hope that the main follies are left behind (laughs). Because I am already an adult man, and it is more and more difficult to decide on desperate steps and teenage violence. I want stability. I once made my main choice. Do you know how my classmates and classmates in Magadan laughed at me? How they twisted their fingers to their temples and said to me: “Are you an idiot? You are being offered a job as an assistant judge in an arbitration court!” Now all the "evil tongues" I wiped their noses. Now in Magadan my songs are heard from every iron. This is my pride and the pride of my parents. And what could be nicer than a happy mother and father?
Artifex: Now you obviously don't give a damn about the criticism of other people, but do you keep yourself in check with self-criticism?
I am a perfectionist by nature and in general I am always not satisfied with my performances. Rarely can I say that today was good. People are very angry and even envious. The last ones are unsuccessful artists who constantly think: “Why him and not me?” I used to have a hard time reading comments. So my brother tried to shut me off from the internet. And today I don't care. I listen to criticism, but it is important to me from authoritative people. I wish I could teach my mother not to get into YouTube, and even more so not to respond to bad comments about me! (laughs)
Artifex: What do you think makes you different from other artists?
My kindness. I am such a kind creature (laughs). I hate myself sometimes for this. What I do, I do honestly. Sometimes you look at the artists, how they sing. And then you see what they are behind the scenes. And you understand that this is one big mask that has become accustomed to a person. Personally, I am united with my team and ready to do everything for them and our cause. There are few artists who take care of their teams, who themselves sit at night and sew stage costumes. Maybe I'm just such a fool?
Artifex: It turns out that Alex Malinovsky on stage and in life, no matter how trite this question sounds, is the same? No fake masks?
Same. How many times have I been told that on stage you have to be a cold bitchy eccentric with the letter "m". I can't do that. I do not know how. I can't do "musical prostitution". I have my own way - not easy, but honest and mine.
