Plastic panels made of polyvinyl chloride - an excellent option for wall decoration. Due to the high technological effectiveness of PVC, wall panels made of it have firmly taken their place as the most popular material for interior work.

However, sooner or later, under the influence of external factors, PVC panels lose their aesthetics and require replacement with a newer finishing material. In this regard, homeowners often have a question: is it possible to glue wallpaper on plastic panels without dismantling them?

 To stick the wallpaper on PVC, you need to choose the right primer

It should immediately be said that wallpapering plastic panels is perfectly acceptable. With the modern development of technological progress, almost completely incompatible finishing materials remained. It is only necessary to observe the technology of their combination: to choose the right primer and cool composition.

To better understand all the intricacies of wallpapering a wall pre-finished with plastic, you should familiarize yourself with the technical features of both materials.

Plastic panels have earned such wide popularity in interior design due to the following properties:

 1. Affordable price. According to this indicator, PVC panels are one of the leaders in the segment wall panels.
 2. Excellent resistance to high humidity. Due to this, PVC wall panels can be used to decorate bathrooms, bathrooms and open balconies.
 3. Resistance to ultraviolet radiation. PVC panels withstand the effects of sunlight, almost without losing brightness and color saturation.
 4. Ease of installation. The panels on their edges have special locks for ease of connection. With the help of "liquid nails" and self-tapping screws, you can glue the panels to the wall or screw them to the crate frame.

 The glossy surface of the panels makes it difficult to wallpaper

This representative has, like any other finishing materials, and its shortcomings. First of all, this is a low resistance to an open flame, as well as the release of toxic chemical components during combustion.

But the main feature of PVC panels is their smooth glossy surface. On the one hand, this gives the lining high decorative qualities, but on the other, it is very difficult to finish them with any material, both paintwork and wallpaper.

Low adhesion between the smooth surface of the plastic and any adhesive or paint composition does not allow quality wallpapering without special preparation.

Wallpaper

This type of decorative wall covering has been at the peak of popularity for decades. The wallpaper succeeds in staying in trend thanks to regular updating of the offered assortment. Today, wallpapers are not only paper rolls with a pattern printed on them.

Modern wallpapers include such high-tech types that have practically nothing to do with their paper predecessors. Today, the following types of this finishing material are presented to the attention of the buyer:

 • paper. The simplest variety, characterized by low cost and low resistance to external influences;
 • non-woven. A multilayer variety, where the basis is a dense polymer fabric - non-woven. The top decorative coating can be made from almost any material - from paper to vinyl and fiberglass;
 • vinyl. Another version of multilayer wallpaper, a polyvinyl chloride film acts as the main layer here. Depending on the material of the base and the number of layers, it can be either “light” or “heavy”.

In addition to these three main types of wallpaper, there are more “exotic” varieties on our market: fiberglass, jute, “liquid wallpaper”, textile, etc.

Almost every kind of wallpaper has its own gluing technology, as well as glue designed specifically for a certain type of wallpaper.

The most complete information about the technical features and method of use can be obtained by carefully reading the instructions on the package.

The table shows some conventions applied to the wallpaper when marking them, and their interpretation.

 Choose quality mixes for sticking

Sticker technologies can also be applied in a wide variety of ways. When pasting some types of wallpaper, for example, paper or vinyl adhesive, is applied both to the canvas and to the wall. When gluing the same non-woven - only on the wall, etc.

Some adhesive solutions tightly enough cling to the base and the canvas of the wallpaper, so when gluing, you should act as accurately as possible.

Other types of adhesives allow for some time to move the canvas on the wall after they are glued, adjusting the texture and pattern.

Most adhesives are designed to adhere wallpaper to a fairly porous base with good adhesion. Only on such substrates can you glue the canvas with high quality without the risk that it will completely peel off or swell with a bubble in the near future.

Sticking technology

 For better adhesion with PVC wallpaper, fiberboard can be upholstered

Due to the above features of both PVC wall panels and wallpaper adhesives, it is not possible to obtain a sufficiently strong coupling between them. Therefore, in order to wallpaper the walls of PVC, it will be necessary to increase their adhesion. There are two ways to do this:

 1. PVC wall cladding with another material, more suitable for work with wallpaper glue. In this case, it is best to use fiberboard sheets - they are quite cheap, easy to cut and assemble, and are also great for wallpapering.
 2. Increased adhesion of the actual PVC panels.

The first option is understandable - fiberboard sheets are simply mounted on top of PVC panels using self-tapping screws. The second requires special consideration. The preparation of old PVC surfaces for wallpapering involves several steps.

Abrasive treatment

 Abrasive washcloth

Initially, the old plastic surface is thoroughly cleaned of dirt, dust, grease, etc. To do this, use a sponge dipped in soapy water or any household cleaning products. After all the dirt has been removed and the surface of the panels has been dried, a smoother plastic surface should be given a rougher texture.

To do this, use the so-called adhesive tape-brite - abrasive washcloth. She needs to properly process the entire plane of the panels. Movements should be intense, sufficient pressure should be applied to the washcloth so that the glossy surface is mottled with many small scratches.

For lack of scotch tape, you can use fine-grained emery paper or a sanding machine with a “zero” circle to give a rough surface to the plastic plane.

After this treatment, the plastic panel to the touch becomes indistinguishable from the surface, covered with putty or well-aligned plaster. That is, the adhesion of PVC panels with this operation was increased to quite acceptable indicators.

Primer

 Apply several coats of primer

Before applying the soil composition, the surface should be cleaned of fine dust remaining after processing with abrasive materials. The primer is applied to the surface of the panels with a paint brush or roller. To do this, use a special primer composition designed for processing glossy surfaces - tiles, glass, plastic.

Given such a “complex” base as a plastic plane, it is advisable to apply it in two to three layers. In this case, each subsequent layer must be applied no earlier than the previous layer dries. After the primer is completely dry, you can proceed to wallpapering.

Wallpaper glue

After the preparation, almost any glue should form a good bond with the PVC panel.

However, experts still recommend to be safe, using a special composition for wallpapering, do it yourself and take the usual wallpaper glue according to the type of wallpaper used (vinyl, non-woven, etc.).

Then, PVA universal glue is added to it in the proportion of ¼ of the total mass of glue. For more information on how to stick wallpaper, see this video:

PVA can significantly increase specifications any wallpaper glue, and such a composition will provide a much stronger grip between the PVC panel and the wallpaper.

Before gluing PVC panels, stop on the requirements for the finishing material. This is very important, because the place where you plan to use the paneling may simply not be suitable, as it will not satisfy the requirements. In addition, if this happens, then you will suffer great losses due to damage to the material. So, let's go:

 • It is forbidden to use PVC panels in those places where the temperature drops reach 20 degrees Celsius.
 • If the temperature indicator in the room where the material will be used does not rise above 10 degrees with a minus sign, then the use of panels is not recommended.
 • If the finishing material was in a room where the temperature was -10 ° C, then for some time it must be placed in the room where the panels will be used.
 • If the panels are mounted horizontally, the docking groove should face down. This will prevent moisture or condensation from getting under the material.
 • When laying the material, make sure that there are 5-10 mm gaps at the top and bottom.
 • If you are installing panels with a picture, then you should start from the left corner and go to the right. If the material is solid, then the starting side is not important.
 • When cutting panels in size, use a saw with a fine pitch. You can also use a grinder with a special circle.

Now that you know the basic principles of working with the material, you can start collecting the necessary tools so that the installation of PVC panels on the glue takes place without interruption, so to speak, from production.

We collect the tool and purchase the necessary material

So, to begin gluing PVC panels, you must first prepare the tool you need for the job. Here is a sample list:

 • You will need the help of a square to cut right angles.
 • Do not do without a building level.
 • Stock up on tape measure.
 • Using a miter box, you have to cut off various angles on the surface of the panels. This is the case if you plan to create a unique pattern on the surface of a wall or ceiling.

Advice! If you do not have a stepladder, then you can completely do with an ordinary stool or chair. Unless, of course, you have a standard room height.

In principle, we figured out the tools. Now you have to go to a specialty store or to the construction market. There you need to purchase:

 • Directly PVC panels themselves.

Advice! Buy a little material with a margin, so that later you do not waste time choosing a tone!

 • The corners are internal and external.
 • Starting profiles.
 • Plinth floor and for the ceiling. The footage will depend on the area of your work surface.
 • Glue for panels.

All. Now you can proceed directly to the installation work.

Installation of PVC panels on glue - the subtleties of the process

Attention! To carry out the venture, you must have a perfectly flat surface.

If this meets the requirements, then we propose to consider all the subtleties of installation:

 • Before the sticker of the PVC panels occurs, you need to degrease the surface to which the material will be glued, as well as the part of the panel on which the adhesive solution will be applied. To do this, simply dilute the dishwashing liquid in water and wipe the surfaces with it. Having waited for their complete drying, we proceed to the next stage.
 • Now you need to decide on the adhesive composition for the job. It can act as Installation moment, Titanium or ordinary liquid nails.

Important! Depending on the solution chosen, you may need a special glue gun.

 • The glue is applied by the spot method. The distance between the points should vary between 30-35 cm. When done, you need to firmly press the panel to the surface. Next, attention, disconnect it and let it stand for about 1 minute. After that, firmly press the finishing material to the surface again. The action algorithm is repeated for each subsequent panel.

For the installation of decorative panels, you will need scissors, a knife, alcohol-based glue (when using glue, the recommendations of the manufacturer of the glue should be taken into account), paper masking tape, level Installation is recommended to start by cleaning the wall from dirt and dust. Before you start installing the panels, it is recommended to calculate how the decorative panels will be laid in one row and along the entire wall as a whole. If it is planned to paste the panels over the entire wall area from floor to ceiling, it is better to start from the top edge of the wall, i.e. from the ceiling. If gluing of panels is planned only on part of the wall, then it is recommended to glue the upper row of panels by level, or draw a line (pull the thread) and set the top edge of the panel along it already. Glue must be applied to the protruding parts from the back of the sheet. Glue is applied around the entire perimeter of the panel, and in the central part of the panel with a step of 5-7 cm on the protruding parts. The panel is recommended to be glued to the wall 1 minute after applying the adhesive. It is necessary to press the panel against the wall slightly away from the adjacent panel and slide it in the lateral direction so that the surface of the glue is leveled. It is recommended that the panels be glued to each other in a small overlap so that the distance between the panels is the same between the other cells of the mosaic. To do this, you must first choose which side to press the panel to the panel. To fix the panels before the glue dries, it is recommended to use paper masking tape.

For gluing PVC sheet panels, we recommend using glue and liquid nails of the following grades:

 1. Liquid nails TITAN Wild universal
 2. Liquid nails "Quality" universal
 3. Liquid nails “Quality” extra strong for panels

Popular decoration materials Recently, plastic panels have become. Their use allows you to make a beautiful finish in a short time.

A variety of textures, colors and sizes attracts those who want to create a unique design of the room. They are used to decorate kitchens and balconies, and moisture resistance makes use of plastic panels simply indispensable for pasting the walls of the bathroom.

Knowing how to glue plastic panels to the wall will allow you to successfully install this decorative material.

Most often, plastic panels are used to finish a bathroom. This means that the adhesive used must be a reliable fastener even in high humidity conditions.

 Choose adhesives with high adhesion and fast setting

Necessary characteristics for glue:

 • moisture resistance. Since the humidity in the bathroom is high, glue for gluing can only be used from moisture resistant brands;
 • high degree of adhesion. This is necessary to ensure better adhesion to the wall;
 • resistance to different temperatures and their differences. The use of panels in the bathroom, where the temperature and humidity tend to change quickly, is possible only in the case of reliable fastening to the surface of the walls;
 • the presence of antibacterial properties. A moist and warm environment is ideal for the growth of bacteria and fungus. In view of this, the adhesive for wall panels must be antibacterial;
 • durability. Although you can glue the panels with almost any glue, so that they are securely fixed for many years, you need a quality composition;
 • fast "grasping". It is necessary that within 10 minutes after gluing the panel to the wall, it was already firmly fixed;
 • lack of a high level of toxicity and pungent odor;
 • transparency.

An adhesive that meets all these requirements will be excellent for gluing PVC panels in any room, even in the bathroom, where dampness and high temperature are common. This will allow the finish to remain unchanged for many years.

Panel bonding options

There are various options for gluing plastic panels. Each master has his own adhesive tested over the years, and yet there is a wide selection in this area, but how to glue PVC panels? The following are the main options:

 1. Emfikol 34012A. This adhesive is specifically designed for fixing PVC, as it has good adhesion to plastic.
 2. Kleiberite 636. It is based on synthetic resin, so it is environmentally friendly.
 3. Crystal moment. Such glue is used for gluing on almost any surface.
 4. Liquid nails 601. This is a universal adhesive for interior use.
 5. Liquid nails 901. Glue, which is used both for indoor and outdoor use. It is able to securely attach even heavy materials.
 6. Liquid nails 915 - an adhesive that is specifically used for bathrooms.

Table. The main characteristics of different adhesives

However, it’s not enough just to choose the right glue, it is important to know how to glue the plastic panels so that you don’t have to redo everything later.

Technology for fastening plastic panels

 Glue the panels to a cleaned and primed coating

Although it may seem that installing PVC panels is a difficult task, in fact, following simple instructions, all the work can be done with your own hands and without the involvement of specialists.

Some people prefer to mount such material on a pre-mounted frame, but this reduces the area of the room. But how to glue PVC panels? Next, the fastening technology with glue is painted step by step.

When gluing panels, it is important to avoid bending the material. You also need to remember that the protective film is removed only after the final installation. So that the lines along which the material is cut are as even as possible, cutting and cutting should be done only on the front side of the material.

As you can see, the gluing of plastic panels can be done independently. First you need to decide on the glue on which this material will be attached. An overview of glues for PVC panels, see this useful video:

For decorating bathrooms, one of the good options is the use of 915 liquid nails, which are specially designed to work in rooms with high humidity. Before installation, it is important to make sure the walls are even, because the appearance of the room after installing the panels depends on this.

Although it has been written about them many times on our website, we could not help but recall the advantages of plastic panels again. If you have not decided on the type of PVC panels yet - read the article. This material has many advantages, for example:

 • PVC panels retain their basic properties in a wide temperature range (from -30 to +60), which means they are suitable for almost all climatic conditions;
 • It is very simple to work with plastic panels, because they are light and malleable to a cutting tool;
 • It does not fade in direct sunlight, is resistant to ultraviolet light;
 • PVC panels can be used in all types of rooms and premises, for example, in the toilet and bathroom.

However, there are also disadvantages, such as:

 • This material cannot be called environmentally friendly;
 • Even with a small excess of the norm, the content of chalk they greatly lose in their physical properties;
 • The use of cheap materials (which is almost indistinguishable at the stage of purchase of panels) significantly reduce their service life.
 • Although they do not support the burning of fire, the smoke from them is toxic.

You will learn more about PVC panels at the link above.

 Installation of PVC panels - on glue or nails

As we wrote above, it’s easy to work with PVC panels. And one of the factors influencing this is the freedom to choose the method of mounting the panels to the wall. Exist

the following mounting methods:

 • Installation of plastic panels with glue to the wall;
 • Fastening PVC panels with glue to the crate;
 • Fastening of panels with clips or other "mechanical" fixing materials to the crate (aluminum or wooden).

You will learn more about panel mounting methods in the article ““.

As an adhesive for mounting PVC panels, Mount-Moment, Titanium glue is used, and so-called liquid nails are also widely used. However, the most reliable adhesive for PVC panels, according to experts, is a polyurethane sealant, which is almost not affected by environmental conditions.

Regarding glue Titan, I want to say that it is not very convenient to work with it. The bottom line is that this glue is applied pointwise and at intervals (similar to that), after which the panel is pressed firmly against the wall or crate, then the panel is unfastened and allowed to stand a little, then the procedure is repeated (for more details on the method of fixing with such glue, see instructions to him).

 How to glue PVC panels

As we wrote above - PVC panels can be glued either directly on the wall or on the crate. In order to glue plastic panels directly on the wall, it should be as even as possible, without cracks, holes, clean. The purity of the wall is quite simple to achieve, but there is no perfect evenness, the nameplate is therefore often used crate. The panels should stand for a while at room

temperature (at least 12 hours), after which they can be unpacked and proceed to their cutting (of course, if necessary). Be sure to degrease the places where glue for PVC panels or liquid nails will be applied. At the same time, you need to degrease both the panels themselves and the places of their landing. When mounting the panels to the wall (without lathing), the adhesive must be applied with dashed lines with a small interval on the entire surface of the panel. The last element you will stick is the baseboard for plastic panels. The gluing method is identical.

 Adhesive for PVC panels in the bathroom

The glue used to install PVC panels in the bathroom does not differ from that used in all other rooms - absolutely all glue is excellent copes with moisture in the conditions of bathrooms of premises, therefore it is not necessary to worry about it. Finally, in addition to the proposed brands of glue, we recommend specifically for the bathroom to use Tytan and Quelyd Mastiffs liquid nails. The method of attaching plastic panels in the bathroom is identical, as well as
