One of the currently most popular resorts on the island of Rhodes is the small town or village of Faliraki, located on east coast islands washed by the Mediterranean Sea.

We spent the last week of July 2016 in Rhodes, in this particular resort. I honestly admit that for the first time I heard this name in a travel agency, choosing hotels for rest. Faliraki itself turned into a resort not so long ago, just a few decades ago. Before that, it was a small fishing village, little known. But the beautiful beaches, sandy coastline, beautiful bays did their job, and the village quickly began to gain popularity.

Today it is a resort with a well-developed infrastructure, a huge number of hotels - from cool five-star spa hotels to small private hotels; there is a huge number of shops, souvenir shops, nightclubs, restaurants, taverns, bars, entertainment centers and so on. In general, everything has been done to ensure that tourists get the maximum experience. It is customary to go shopping or go to the AB supermarket on the northern outskirts of the city, but, frankly, there is little point in this, since prices in other small supermarkets are almost the same.

There is also one of the largest water parks in Europe (although the Greeks themselves do not call it that, but call it in the English manner - waterpark). We did not go to the water park, as this is more a place for family vacation with children, and there was no time left, because if you go there, then for the whole day, but, according to reviews, you can have a lot of fun there.

Faliraki transport, how to get there

The town is located between Rhodes (the main city of the island) and Lindos (where the second most important after the Athenian Acropolis of Greece is located). Distance from Rhodes - 15 kilometers, to the airport - 10 kilometers. For organized tourists using the services of tour operators, as always, a transfer to the hotel is provided. But in principle, there are no problems with transport here - every half hour there is a direct bus from Rhodes to Lindos and back, there are buses that follow and further south. It is easy to distinguish them from tourist charter buses - they are orange and the route of destination is indicated on the electronic board. The payment system is simple, as in Russia - at the station or for the driver at the entrance you pay the fare, the cost depends on the distance. So, to Rhodes one ticket costs 2.20 euros, to Lindos - 4.40 euros. The local bus ride is full of charm: all buses, despite the extreme heat outside, are cool - air-conditioned; leisurely bus drives around the local villages and towns, and you admire the scenery around with Greek music.

In addition to buses, you can use a taxi, however, the prices for it bite. It costs about 5 euros to travel around the city, 20 euros to Rhodes, and 50 euros to Lindos, although the distances are short. As a rule, taxis in Rhodes are entirely good German and Japanese cars: Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagens, Toyota. True, it is not always possible to catch a free taxi on the street; it is better to call it by phone. We took a taxi to Rhodes, they called a car for us at the reception. But most tourists prefer to rent transport - from convertibles to ATVs and scooters. It is both cheaper and more reliable. Everywhere on the island there are car rental points, a tour operator (a hotel guide assigned to you) will help you arrange a rental without a deposit (and it is not small here - up to 500 euros).

Faliraki landmarks

As for historical or architectural sights, they are not here, except for the modern church of St. Nektarios located on the main street of the city. It is a large and beautiful building connected to the bell tower by an arched gallery.

I read that there are two more monasteries in the Faliraki area, but we didn’t come across them on the way, and we didn’t look for them on purpose. On the way to Ladiko beach, there is a church, but what exactly this building is, it was not possible to find out.

Faliraki beaches

The main attraction of Faliraki is the beaches. It was they who made the town the tourist center of the island. The town itself is located along the Mediterranean coast, with a wonderful long sandy beach (4 kilometers). A little outside the city, if you go south, you can see signs to Ladiko and Anthony Quinn beaches. These bays are remarkable for their beauty and are also very popular with tourists.

The first overlooks the Ladiko bay. There are several hotels nearby, and fruit is also sold along the way: there are bags of figs or peaches on the chair, and next to it is a saucer where you put money. The price is indicated on the leaflet: a bag of figs (pieces 8-9) - 2 euros, peaches (3-5 depending on the size) - 3 euros. The bay is really very beautiful, the water is clear - you can see everything that is under the water, the beach is clean and sandy. The water is very salty with a high density, so you can learn to swim here - the water holds very well and is shallow. There is a small bar on the beach where you can buy water, have an iced fruit smoothie (€ 3) or a milkshake (€ 4), and also have a snack. Prices, of course, are much higher, but this is always the case on popular beaches.

There is a bus stop near Ladiko - there is a local city bus, the price is 1 euro.

A little further there is another beach - Anthony Quinn Bay. It got its name in honor of the famous Hollywood actor who starred in these places in the 1964 film "The Greek Zorba". By the way, the famous melody "Sirtaki" was written especially for this film, and not at all a folk Greek melody, as most people think. The film won three Oscars. Anthony Quinn was literally amazed at the beauty of the bay, and then very often visited here. At that time it was still a very secluded and little-known place. Today there are a lot of tourists here. There is also a cafe.

As for me, I liked Ladiko beach better. Anthony Quinn Cove is undoubtedly very beautiful, but not very comfortable for swimming. The shore is pebbly - it is inconvenient and even painful to go out, there are many huge boulders, to be honest, when swimming, you are afraid to catch your foot. Ladiko, in my opinion, is more convenient for swimming, although there are more people on Anthony Quinn's beach, maybe, having reached it, they simply do not want to return.

Pleasure boats and small yachts regularly enter the bays. There are catamarans and other attributes of the sea active rest, many divers. All beaches are equipped with toilets, showers where salt water and sand can be washed off. The beaches are clean, everywhere there are sun loungers with umbrellas, but you have to pay for sun loungers, the price is 5 euros per seat. For two we had to pay 10 euros, but there is a convenient system - the payment applies to all the beaches of the city for the whole day. That is, having paid in the morning for sun loungers on one beach, you can use the same coupons in the evening to borrow sun loungers on other beaches for free.

By the way, there is also a nudist beach here, however, we did not go to it.

I would also like to add that life here is in full swing around the clock, even more active at night. Faliraki has a strong reputation as a youth party resort. There are indeed a lot of young people here from Germany, Italy, France, Eastern Europe and mainland Greece. But this does not mean that the city is not suitable for family vacations, it is just that it is better to choose a hotel not in the very center, where music plays around the clock, young people are noisy and walking around, but a little to the side.

In general, the conclusion is this: Faliraki is a good modern resort, which is suitable for any kind of vacation, relatively inexpensive, so European youth who cannot afford Ibiza come here to hang out.

We will tell you what is remarkable about the Greek resort of Faliraki in Rhodes, and what sights a tourist should see. Read before you travel.

If you try to identify the 10 most famous resorts in Greece, Faliraki, located in Rhodes, will take pride of place on this list. On the one hand, it is aimed at young people and beach lovers. On the other hand, there is a lot of entertainment for families with children and those who want to get acquainted with the historical heritage of the island. What to do in Faliraki? Here are five ideas for a popular Greek resort.

  • for the first time

Spend time on one of the best beaches in Rhodes

Faliraki Beach is consistently awarded the Blue Flag every year. It stretches for 5 km and is covered with pure golden sand. For vacationers on the coast, all the necessary services are provided: there are sun loungers, bars, water entertainment centers, cafes, hotels, small shops, and parties are held in the evenings. Faliraki Beach is one of the busiest in Rhodes, but even here you can find a quiet corner. For example, the bay of Kafara, located in the bay of the same name. The most comfortable hotels in Faliraki are concentrated around it. The beach and the bottom are sandy, but there are rock formations in the water, which have become the highlight of this place. The kafara is equipped but not overcrowded. The sea is shallow here - you can safely choose a bay for a holiday with a child.

Get to Anthony Quinn Bay

This bay 4 km from Faliraki is a beach with history. She got her name in honor of the famous actor for a reason. In the 60s, Quinn starred in one of the films in Rhodes and fell in love with these places so much that he bought a plot here along with a beach. It's really hard to stay indifferent to the bay: emerald calm water, rocks around, greenery and a clean beach - all this sets you up for a serene vacation. Anthony Quinn Bay is crowded during high season and there is not enough room for everyone. Therefore, it is better to visit it at the beginning or at the Velvet season... Another way to enjoy the views is to head to the terrace above the beach. There is a tavern and an observation deck.

Afraid of being disconnected on the road?

). The beach resort is located in the northeastern part of the island of Rhodes, at a distance of 14 km from the capital city of Rhodes and about 10 km from the international airport of Rhodes. Faliraki resort is part of the municipality of Kallithea, located in the northeast of the island, slightly south of the city Rhodes. In the same municipality there are also the popular authentic Greek villages of Kalities, Koskinou and Psinthos.

Faliraki Rhodes vacation

The beautiful resort area of Faliraki has today become the largest and most popular beach resort on the island of Rhodes. If we consider it from the point of view of administrative division, then the resort is actually part of the village of Kalities, which is located at a distance of about 1 km from the zone where the hotels are located.

Faliraki as a residential area in Rhodes was founded in the late sixties of the last century, at that time there were only a few small taverns in the beach area, where Greek visitors and local fishermen stopped by. There were no tourists here - there was an agricultural area around, where grapes, figs and tomatoes were grown, and fishing was done on the coast.

However, in the early seventies, the first tourists from Europe began to visit Faliraki, and a few years later, thanks to the beautiful, very long sandy beach, thousands of tourists began to gather on the Mediterranean coast of Rhodes in the Faliraki region, and the massive construction of hotels and apartments began.

Modern Faliraki is a place worth going for both cheerful travelers looking for entertainment, and those who love a quiet, unhurried vacation, and those who decided to sunbathe with their own young children. An idle life is rampant in the resort - music sounds, wine flows like a river, mischievous dances light up the eyes. All entertainment places of the resort are open until late at night, it is simply impossible to be late here!

During the warmest months of summer, in July and August, the central area of Faliraki is overcrowded with young children brought by their parents to Rhodes. The ubiquitous little travelers occupy playgrounds, amusement parks, their cheerful noise and din can be heard on the beaches and in the water park ...

At the same time, in the resort area of Faliraki there are many quiet bars, cafes and restaurants, cozy corners on the beach for secluded relaxation.

"The quiet Greek is the one you can hear only on the next street."

It was our 3rd trip, we thought for a very long time where to go and since my husband always dreamed of visiting Greece, we chose one of her wonderful islands - Rhodes.

Greece is an amazing country. It cannot be described in one or two words. Even a story is not enough for this. Therefore, going to write about our Greek holidays, I will divide our vacation into several stories dedicated to specific cities and places, namely: the town of Faliraki and its surroundings; the capital of the island of Rhodes, the eponymous city of Rhodes; the wonderful place of Calithea Terme; extreme city of Lindos; the picturesque Anthony Quinn Beach and Ladiko Bay; and also, I will tell you about one excursion in which we traveled half of the western coast of the island from Kamiros to Arnisa.

So, the island of Rhodes. It is often called the island of the sun and this is true, because the sun sets here late in the evening, and the streets are as bright as day until 9 pm. There is an amazing climate, fresh and unpolluted air, a gentle sea with wonderful and picturesque coves and colorful local Greeks.

In this story, I will share with you my impressions of the town of Faliraki.

Faliraki is a small village , or a mini-town (everyone has a different name), 30 minutes by bus from the capital of the island, the city of Rhodes. We chose this place because it is large and nice beach, in the evening there are many cafes and clubs to choose from, and most importantly, from here you can get to almost anywhere on the island "on foot" (because we don't have a driver's license and we are tied to the bus service). Looking ahead, I will say that we were very pleased with our choice.

So, Faliraki. The flight from Moscow to Rhodes took 3.5 hours ... We arrived early in the morning and were very surprised when leaving the plane there was still no sun (and we arrived at 7 in the morning). But only later we learn that in Rhodes the sun rises late and sets too early. We were picked up at the airport by the meeting side and everyone was taken to the hotels. About our hotel Orion Hotel 3 * can be found in a separate review. In general, having stayed on the island for 10 days, I still did not understand where exactly the beginning of the village of Faliraki and where it ends. There is one main and very long street, on the left side of which there are hotels and the sea, and on the right side there are hotels and taverns. And at a certain moment (in the Chaplin beach area) this main street diverges to the right and left into many small streets, which abound with many different cafes, taverns, hookah bars, strip clubs, karaoke bars and hotels. Our hotel was a 5-minute walk from all this abundance, so we can say that we were practically in the center of this town.

Faliraki beach is wide and long , somewhere about 5 kilometers.
