Modern construction uses different kinds roofing materials that provide reliable protection of the roof from the flow of rainwater.

But the review of roofing materials will be incomplete if not to mention the galvanized roofing iron, which is widely used in individual suburban construction.

The galvanized roof looks neat and is able to reliably protect the structure from atmospheric moisture for many years. Snow on a galvanized pitched roof practically does not linger, which makes it possible to reduce the cross-section of the rafter system elements and save on the purchase of materials for construction.

Characteristics of Galvanized Iron

The galvanized iron produced by the industry must comply with GOST 14918-80.

Galvanized sheet steel, according to its purpose, is divided into groups:
For cold stamping - ХШ;
For cold profiling - HP;
For coloring - PC;
General purpose - OH.

According to the uniformity of the thickness of the zinc coating, galvanizing is:
With normal thickness variation - НР;
With reduced thickness variation - UR.

The sheet thickness can be between 0.5 mm and 2.5 mm. The thickness of the zinc coating of the Ts0 and Ts1 grades, depending on the class, can be:

For galvanized steel of groups ХШ, ХП and ОН, slight beads, grains of zinc crystals, local roughness and light or dull spots are allowed. Violation of the integrity of the zinc coating is unacceptable, as this will lead to corrosion and destruction of steel.

Galvanized iron has high strength, capable of withstanding significant snow and wind loads without destruction. Excellent resistance to solar radiation and precipitation.

Popular building materials such as metal tiles and corrugated board are stamped from galvanized steel.

Galvanized iron sheet dimensions

In accordance with GOST 14918-80, galvanized iron is produced in widths from 750 mm to 1800 mm.

In accordance with GOST 19904-90, cold-rolled sheet products for subsequent zinc coating can have the following dimensions:

As you can see, the assortment of galvanized iron sheets is very diverse, so you should choose based on the size of the galvanized roof, the possibility of delivery, unloading and installation.

Most often, in individual construction, galvanized iron sheets with dimensions of 1000 mm by 2000 mm and a thickness of 0.55 mm and 1250 mm by 2500 mm are used.

Galvanized sheet weight

The guest does not regulate the weight of each individual sheet of galvanized steel. But, if you need to calculate the weight of the roof or the weight of the sheets for selection vehicle for their transportation, then based on the specific weight of steel 7.8 g / cm3, you can roughly use the following table:

Sheet size, mm

Sheet thickness, mm

How much is galvanized iron

The price for galvanizing varies depending on the thickness of the sheet, the thickness of the zinc coating and the number of purchased sheets of galvanized iron. In order to cover a bathhouse or a cottage, you are unlikely to need a wholesale lot for which you can get a discount. Therefore, you should focus on the retail prices offered by sellers today.

In your region, prices may differ slightly, but on average, for example, you can use the galvanized price table below:

Sheet thickness, mm

Sheet width, mm

Sheet length, mm

Despite the wide selection of roofing materials on the modern market, today they increasingly use galvanized sheet, the size and shape of which allows you to decorate the roof or facade of any building. Due to its high performance characteristics, corrugated sheets occupy a leading position among materials for roofing and cladding of buildings.

1 Profile galvanized sheets - advantages and varieties

Galvanized profiled sheet, the dimensions and thickness of which depend on the field of application, is rolled metal with an anti-corrosion coating. Steel billets are cold rolled on special machines that form the so-called corrugations. They are trapezoidal and serve as stiffeners. It is thanks to them that the steel profile sheets have an increased level of strength.

The shape of the profile and the height of the ribs affect the strength steel sheet... This type of corrugated board is used for different purposes - from the installation of gates, fences and ending with the roof.

The main advantages of profile sheets are ease of installation and maintenance, durability, versatility and low cost in comparison with analogues. In addition, the profiled sheet has a small specific gravity: depending on the thickness of the metal and the presence of a polymer coating, a square meter of this material weighs from 5 to 10 kg. The most durable metal profile does a good job even with load-bearing functions.

Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting a high level of noise during physical impact on steel sheets. For example, when it rains, a corrugated sheet amplifies the sound of drops falling on it. Another drawback is the unattractive appearance, but this opinion is not shared by everyone. It has a slightly yellowish steel color and, due to the absence of paintwork, is more affordable.

2 Galvanized sheet - dimensions and classification

Profiled steel is classified by purpose and is divided into 3 types:

  1. For walls and fences (marking - "C").
  2. For roofing (marking - "H").
  3. For wall and roof coverings (marking - "CH").

Corrugated galvanized sheets, like all rolled metal products, have their own standard dimensions, which are regulated by GOST 14918 and are designated by the symbol “O”. There are also rolled products with electrolytic zinc coating according to TU 14-1-4695-89 (designated by EOCP). In addition, products are classified according to the presence of a protective polymer coating.

The standard sizes of galvanized iron sheet are in the range of 2.4 to 12 meters (HC). Depending on the area of application, the size has a different multiplicity. So, for example, roofing sheets (H) have a length from 3 to 12 meters and a multiplicity of 25 cm, and rolled products for wall fences (C) - from 2.4 to 13 m with a multiplicity of 30 cm.However, on an individual order, manufacturers make sheets of any sizes.

Roofing profiled sheets (marking "H" - bearing) are also used for the construction of bearing and supporting structures. Due to their high profile, large metal thickness and wide wave pitch, these sheets can withstand heavy loads. For example, with a certain laying, H75 grade corrugated board with a sheet thickness of only 0.9 mm can withstand a load of up to 720 kg / m2.

3 Galvanized corrugated sheet - sizes of the most popular brands

During the production process, markings are applied to the finished profiled sheets, which indicate its main characteristics. This procedure is mandatory and all manufacturers of rolled metal label their products. The labeling of different companies may differ, but usually it contains all the information necessary for specialists.

Let's understand the dimensions of galvanized and corrugated sheets using one of the most popular brands as an example. An example of a full marking of profile rolled products - C21-0.45-750-11000, where:

  • WITH - ;
  • 21 - profile height;
  • 0.45 is the thickness of the metal base;
  • 750 - the width of the profiled sheet;
  • 11000 - the length of the profiled sheet.

In most cases, the following grades of sheet profile are used for the installation of walls, fences and gates: C8, C10, C18, C21, C44.

C8 profiled sheet has a useful length from 1 to 11.5 m and is often used for the installation of facade and wall coverings, as well as ceilings. The height of the corrugation is 8 mm, and the thickness of the sheet is from 0.4 to 0.7 mm, making this brand one of the most affordable. Another advantage of this type of profiled sheet is its low weight, which greatly facilitates installation, transportation and increases the economic benefit in general.

Galvanized profiled sheet of the C18 brand, despite its belonging to the category, is often used for roof installation. As you know, one of the disadvantages of standing seam roofing is noise during strong gusts of wind. The design of the C18 brand with small stiffeners and wide flanges almost completely solves this problem.

Corrugated galvanized sheet of grade C21 has a high level of rigidity, despite the low profile height. The waveforms provide a secure fit, and their frequency and symmetry increase the stability of the sheet. Profiled sheet C21 is used for the installation of fences and walls, as well as for the roof of residential buildings.

The most popular brands of galvanized roofing sheet are H60 and H75.

The H60 brand is distinguished by high performance characteristics, versatility and relatively low price. It is often used as an independent roof profile and for formwork installation. The useful width of the profiled sheet is 8.45 meters.

It is believed that the professional flooring of the H75 brand is the most popular metal roofing. It is used in many areas of modern construction for the installation of membrane-type roofs, standing seam roofs and fixed formwork. This brand is made of steel of the highest quality and is the leader among roofing sheeting... High stiff ribs and thick galvanized steel sheet are capable of withstanding enormous loads.

The most popular universal brands of professional sheet are НС44 and НС57.

НС44 is a typical representative of the class of universal corrugated board. It works equally well for roofing and wall coverings. The increased strength of this brand allows you to fasten rolled products with a step of 2.5 meters.

HC57 differs from the previous one in higher resistance to mechanical stress. The maximum steel sheet thickness is 1mm and the wave height is 60mm.

Of course, these are far from all sizes of galvanized profile sheets. Their assortment is much wider, and it is unlikely that it will be possible to list all the features of each brand within the framework of one article. However, this information is quite enough for selection or at home.

  1. For installation of the roof, it is recommended to use a galvanized profile with the H marking and a sheet height of 20 mm or more.
  2. For the installation of fences, gates or walls, it is advisable to use profiled sheets up to 20 mm high. The C10 and C14 brands are well suited.

The color of the rolled products is a matter of taste. But one thing is for sure - it is better to choose a corrugated board with a protective paintwork. It is slightly more expensive than a simple galvanized profile, but has a longer service life and a more aesthetic appearance.

In private construction, fences and roofs made of profiled sheet metal are actively practiced. Consider the characteristics of galvanized corrugated board, as one of the varieties of this material.

Despite the appearance and widespread use of painted corrugated board, galvanized steel has not lost its popularity. This is due to the fact that, at a low cost, the scope of its application is not limited, and, in practice, is much wider than that of a colored analogue.

Scope of application of galvanized corrugated board

The use of galvanized profiled sheet is advisable in cases where it is necessary:

  • device of permanent formwork when pouring foundations. The use of corrugated board makes the work less laborious;
  • construction of fences - from temporary to permanent. A fence made of corrugated board is often installed around construction sites or to protect the site during the construction process. However, high quality corrugated board is quite appropriate to use for the construction of a permanent fence, decorating it with additional elements. After all, the estimated service life is 15-20 years (depending on the quality of the coating).
  • erection of temporary structures and outbuildings. For example, the construction of kiosks, garages, sheds from galvanized corrugated board;
  • for wall decoration (external and internal);
  • if necessary, cover the roof of a large industrial facility;
  • for the formation or replacement of floor slabs in the construction of buildings with frame-monolithic structure.

Advice. Galvanized corrugated board cannot be painted with ordinary paints. This should be taken into account when planning to build a permanent permanent structure.

Types of galvanized corrugated board

Wall (galvanized corrugated board for a fence, fence)

For sheathing (decorating) vertical surfaces, a sheet with a wave height of 8 to 21 mm is used. This size is due to the fact that with a low profiling wave, more useful area of the sheet is retained, and the rigidity during vertical installation on the frame is not a determining parameter.

Note. Installation of corrugated board on vertical surfaces can be performed both vertically (the stiffeners of the sheet are located perpendicular to the line of the building base), and horizontally (lines parallel to the foundation).

Roofing (galvanized roof sheeting)

It is used for use on horizontal and inclined surfaces. A sheet with a wave height of 20 mm or more is suitable for the roof. In practice, the larger the pitch angle of the roof, the lower the wave height can be applied. And vice versa, on a flat roof, a corrugated board is installed with a wave height of 45 mm, and taking into account the amount of precipitation in the region, the thickness of the snow cover, the roof configuration - with a wave height of 75 mm.

Advice. Installation of corrugated board on the roof is carried out only in accordance with the direction of the flow of water.

Bearing galvanized corrugated board

For the formation of floors, it is reasonable to use only a zinc-coated profiled sheet, because here the determining parameter is the stiffness and load-bearing capacity of the sheet, and not its aesthetic properties or resistance to corrosion. For these purposes, it is preferable to use a corrugated sheet with a wave height of 75 mm.

Regardless of the purpose, a profiled sheet is manufactured in accordance with the standards contained in GOST 24045-94 "Galvanized profiled sheeting" on special equipment. As a result of the passage of the galvanized sheet through the shafts, waves are formed - profiles (stiffeners), which impart its properties to the finished corrugated board.

Thickness of galvanized corrugated board and galvanized

Galvanized corrugated board has two defining parameters:

Corrugated sheet thickness

On the market there is a profiled sheet with a thickness of 0.3 to 1.7 mm. The most popular is the thickness of the corrugated board 0.45-0.7 mm.

Zinc layer thickness

This indicator directly affects the anti-corrosion properties of the material. GOST regulates that the thickness of the galvanized coating should be 275 g / m2. The estimated service life of such a profiled sheet is 15-20 years. A decrease in the thickness of the coating entails a decrease in price, but also a decrease in the service life.

Note also that zinc is a volatile material and will erode from the steel base over time. In addition, the violation of the integrity of the layer (mechanical damage) also contributes to the rapid development of corrosion.

Advice. For temporary fencing, in order to save money, it is reasonable to use corrugated board with a zinc coating of 100 g / m2. Its estimated service life is 5-7 years.

Galvanizing sheet steel not only determines the service life of the profiled sheet, but also its appearance.

There are three types of galvanized surfaces, depending on the crystallization pattern:

  • normal;
  • minimum;
  • missing.

With a normal crystallization pattern, the appearance of the sheet will be covered with "stars", "snowflakes", etc. The choice of "pattern" depends on the preferences of the buyer.

Note. Uneven crystallization indicates violations in the technology of applying a zinc layer.

Galvanized corrugated board - sheet dimensions

Width of galvanized corrugated board

Due to the fact that the sheet is profiled from a roll blank, the width of the corrugated board is determined by the height of the wave - the higher the wave, the narrower the sheet. This property must be taken into account when calculating the corrugated board. In addition, it should be borne in mind that different manufacturers have different roll forming equipment installed. Those. the configuration of the wave (its angle of inclination in relation to the plane of the sheet), which means that the working width of the sheet will differ. So, with the same wave height, the width may differ by 5-15 mm.

Length of galvanized corrugated board

The length can be any and is determined by the needs of the customer. From the point of view of ease of transportation and installation, the maximum length of a sheet of galvanized corrugated board for most manufacturers is 12,000 mm. The minimum length of the corrugated board is 200 mm. In this case, the dimensions of the profiled sheet are discrete 50 mm. Those. the equipment allows you to cut a sheet in a multiple of 50 mm.

Time and galvanized corrugated board

When installing corrugated board without polymer coating (decorative finishing layer), you should be prepared that the appearance of the lined surface will change over time. Due to the volatility of zinc, the surface of the sheet will lose its luster and acquire a dirty gray tint. In places where the zinc layer is slightly thinner or there is mechanical damage, rust will appear on the sheet.

The thickness of the zinc layer affects only the rate of change, but is not able to prevent them.

The cost of galvanized corrugated board

The price depends on such parameters as sheet thickness, zinc layer thickness, wave height (working width) and differs depending on the manufacturer.

For comparison, the price of galvanized corrugated board of several manufacturers is shown in the table.

Advantages of galvanized corrugated board

  • low weight of the profiled sheet. Weight 1 sq. galvanized corrugated board ranges from 3.0 to 4.5 kg / sq. Weight depends on sheet thickness and zinc layer thickness. The lightness of the sheet allows you to minimize the cost of its transportation, loading and unloading operations, installation / lifting to a height and installation;
  • minimum cost. In the line of painted corrugated board - galvanized stands out for the lowest cost. This makes it irreplaceable for temporary use;
  • strength. The appearance of the profiled sheet does not affect its strength characteristics, and the presence of stiffeners (waves) provides it with resistance to deformation from heavy loads;
  • versatility. The ability to use as a roofing, wall, fence and bearing material;
  • ease of installation and no special requirements for the tool. Galvanized corrugated board can be cut with a circular saw or metal scissors without fear of damaging the decorative layer;
  • no requirements for the lathing device;
  • fire and environmental safety;
  • low operating costs.
  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • the ability to do the installation of corrugated board with your own hands.

Conclusion

It is not surprising that galvanized corrugated board is firmly held among the most popular materials for construction and decoration. So, if you need to purchase a reliable and inexpensive material for a wide variety of needs, you should take a closer look at a profiled sheet with a galvanized surface.

Not a single type of industry is complete without any metal products - one of them, galvanized steel sheet.

What is galvanized sheet

Galvanized sheet is a flat thin metal product covered with a protective zinc layer, which protects the base from corrosion. As a basis, various iron alloys are used - steel of various grades.

For the production of galvanized products, cold-rolled steel is used, which is passed through industrial equipment in order to obtain the desired shape.

A protective coating is obtained:

  1. Hot-dip galvanized- the coating is obtained by dipping the sheet into a container with molten zinc. This method is the most economical, allowing you to create an effective protective layer, which significantly improves the technical properties of the material. The coating thickness will be 70 ... 250 microns. The surface will be smooth or have a pronounced crystallization pattern. The coating can be applied to one or both sides of the product. Raw materials of the Ts1 or Ts0 brands are used.
  2. Galvanization- a method of applying a protective layer by means of electrochemical reactions that take place in electrolytic baths. The zinc thickness will be 5 ... 12 microns. The sheet turns out to be more flexible, able to withstand plastic deformations. But this method is more expensive compared to hot-dip galvanizing.

Corrosion resistance reason

Galvanized products can be compared with a composite material with electrochemical cathodic protection in a pair of "iron-zinc". Light metal, acting as an anode, takes over oxidative reactions, gradually collapses, thereby protecting the base metal. In addition, zinc itself has a high chemical resistance to weathering, so its service life is quite long.

Application area

Galvanized products are in steady demand in many industries:

  1. Construction, - the products are used for roofing works, as fences, floors, in a variety of modular structures, galvanized construction and painting tools are produced.
  2. Mechanical engineering - car bodies, refrigerator or washing machine cases, galvanized liquid tanks and much more.

Pros and cons

Advantages of galvanized steel:

  • preservation of strength characteristics by the base metal;
  • sufficient plasticity for the production of bent profiles without peeling off the protective layer;
  • high economic effect from the method of protective galvanizing;
  • durability of products;
  • light weight.

Flaws:

  • low strength of the surface layer, - with mechanical damage, a growing corrosion center is formed, which, if not noticed and eliminated in time, will cause a complete replacement of the product;
  • zinc coating must not be used in aggressive environments - in the presence of inorganic acids and their salts;
  • limitation on temperature application, - the melting point of zinc is 420… .460 ° C.

Dimensions and classification

Galvanized products are produced in two types:

  • roll;
  • sheet.

Roll

It is rolled steel with a length of several tens of meters wound into a roll. The average width is 1250 mm. The thickness of the metal is in the range 0.2 ... 4 mm. Roll winding is convenient for use in automated production processes of the same type of products.

Sheet

Available in widths of 1 ... 2.5 meters. The thickness is 0.35 ... 3 mm. Length 1 ... 6 meters. The size is selected for a specific type of production of any industrial product in order to reduce the amount of waste.

Rolled products are carried out in accordance with GOST 14918-80 from carbon cold-rolled steel.

One of the most demanded areas of application of galvanized sheet is the production of corrugated products.

Corrugated Galvanized Sheet

Corrugated sheet (corrugated sheet), corrugated split - a type of industrial product, which is a wavy profile. In appearance, it is very similar to the well-known asbestos-cement roofing slate.

The corrugation is a continuous sinusoid - due to this shape, there are no points of mechanical stress in the bending points, in which the process of destruction of the structure is most likely. At the same time, this shape of the sheet profile significantly increases the rigidity, especially in the transverse sinusoidal direction.

This type of product is widely used:

  • roofing material for industrial and civil facilities;
  • arrangement of parking complexes for public transport;
  • construction of hangars for various purposes and many other structures.

Gofrolist has a number of specific advantages:

  • low cost compared to other roofing materials;
  • high lateral rigidity;
  • low weight of the product;
  • high corrosion resistance;
  • resistant to atmospheric influences;
  • long service life;
  • not flammable;
  • the corrugated sheet is convenient when performing installation work.

In addition to the protective galvanized coating, the product is covered with decorative polymer or paint coatings, this contributes to additional protection of the entire corrugated sheet and increases the aesthetic perception of the entire structure as a whole.

The dimensions of the corrugated board are in the range:

  • the width is 900 ... 1250 mm;
  • thickness 0.3 ... 1 mm;
  • length 0.5 ... 6.5 meters.

When installing corrugated products as a fence (fence) or roofing material, no special knowledge or skills are required. It is enough to own a hammer, screwdriver and other common construction tools. Installation of a corrugated sheet is very similar to working with conventional asbestos-cement slate.

Estimated cost

The cost of the final product is influenced by:

  • the cost of the starting material, - rolled steel;
  • zinc cost;
  • coverage method costs and other economic factors.

Very important point- product quality, which depends entirely on the manufacturer and production culture, for example, smooth galvanized sheet 1250 mm wide costs:

  • thickness 0.4 mm, price 150 ... 160 rubles / m²;
  • thickness 1.0 mm, price 320 ... 380 rubles / m²;
  • thickness 1.5 mm, price 500 ... 560 rubles / m²;
  • thickness 2.0 mm, price 670 ... 720 rubles / m².

A high-quality galvanized product must be produced in accordance with the requirements of technical documentation, in particular, in accordance with GOST 14918-80, in compliance with the entire technological chain.
