The Skies is a dark post-apocalyptic open world shooter and sandbox game.

We are waiting for the land burned by the Sun- radiation and flares from our star killed the planet, leaving the survivors to vegetate in poverty.

The developers of this game are from Lugansk, so they know a lot about the ruined city and life on the edge - and just good domestic games are worth supporting.

They made a shooter in which leveling takes place in solo mode (like in an RPG), and PVP battles in the arena are wall-to-wall.

The solo line strongly gravitates towards making moral decisions- the plot changes, groups treat the hero differently, NPPs close shops or increase the range of goods.

The central core of the plot is the search for the strange city of the Celestial Empire - according to legend, it is the last hope of mankind.

Sky grin

  • Simple character leveling system- Strengthen 1 of 6 parameters and get a bonus.
  • Non-linear quests with "evil", "good" and "neutral" development options.
  • Over 80 types of weapons– homemade, catastrophe-surviving, futuristic.
  • Donat at the start quite a bit– experience growth and talent system reset.
  • Good balance between PVP and PVE- you can change the style of the game according to your mood.
  • Two types of arenas - all against all and team fight.

Characteristic landscapes on the monitor screen evoke nostalgia - the skeletons of dead factories, five-story panel buildings, bus skeletons.

In the midst of all this splendor, several factions operate - you will earn reputation with them and open new quest branches.

Tired? So, welcome to the arena in the chaos of combat. Machetes, knives, homemade grenades, swords, automatic weapons and shotguns, mines and traps - we turn rivals into minced meat.

In the future, a clan war will open - for territory and entire cities.

Economy after the end of the world
1 Become a bandit, merchant, clan leader or bounty hunter.
2 Players will create their own weapons, armor and consumables - a free market.
3 Small artisanal workbenches and trade will help you build your business while leveling up.
4 Join the PvP - bounty hunt in the arena or become the governor of cities.
5 Classic wasteland with a shortage of water, food and ammunition - get ready to survive.
6 Non-target combat system with ballistics, recoil and hand-to-hand combat.

The Skies is a role-playing shooter set in the post-Apocalypse universe with lots of crafting and aggressive arenas.

This time - not rockets, not some internal conflicts, not diseases or viruses. This time - deadly solar flares that destroyed the entire infrastructure of mankind. First, all radios and electrical appliances went out of order, then a drought began, fires broke out. Man found salvation deep underground in the labyrinths of an iron bunker.

In 2150, people, having risen to the surface, began to restore everything that had once been lost: cities are being built on the scorched earth, farms are being formed in the district, lost varieties of plants are being restored, wild animals are being domesticated - in general, a completely optimistic future is being built.

The crime characteristic of the post-apocalypse and its merciless cruelty hinder recovery progress. Gangs of marauders and raiders plunder entire villages, bloodthirsty cannibals operate in the wastelands, and the slave trade flourishes in cities. Entire vigilante groups oppose everything bad - they fight for honesty and kindness throughout the dead world.

In such a familiar and at the same time kindness - for me personally, a lover of post-apocalyptic survival - the situation unfolds a completely mediocre and stupid plot of the Ukrainian MMOFPS The Skies. I’ll write right away: I really didn’t like the game, despite all its outstanding idea and beautiful wrapping - it is dry and dead inside.

Understanding all the absurdity comes even before the launch of the game: in the update history there is a short and, I note right away, insignificant patch log #19, released on October 12 last year. Everything would be fine, but the release date - April 16, 2016 - leads to the idea of a typical game-building stagnation. It is confirmed by the frequency of released updates: stable support stopped in the summer, then the developers created only the appearance of the work being done.

Such a construction is being done - or still was being done - by the guys from the CIS studio Eforb. In the list of their achievements, it is worth noting a number of mobile applications and games, as well as the experience of porting their own projects to PC. Severe game development for them began with work on The Skies back in 2014 - it was then, with some developments and sketches, they successfully jumped over Steam Greenlight, while failing the Kickstarter company and losing additional funding.

Under such circumstances, it is easy to justify all the delays and broken promises - it is enough to point the finger at the lack of money to make the player feel real pity for the unacknowledged idea. But, if, as they say, you dig deeper, you can hit a shovel on Intershelter- by the way, very similar to The Skies, - which is being developed by the same Eforb staff, which apparently forgot about its first project.

But, despite parallel development, servers The Skies are still living survive. Often they lag unbearably, from time to time they fall, either from an average online of 140 people, or from the clumsiness of the game itself. I felt the whole reality during a painful ten-minute authorization in the Russian north - this is where my acquaintance with the “revolutionary post-apocalyptic MMORPG” began.

Immediately after connecting, I saw the in-game character customization appropriate for 2016, which includes only a narrow range of tattoos and several profile options - this is where all the variability ends. The existing choice of male or female does not carry any special features even in decorative terms, not to mention the gameplay.

With the completion of character creation and customization, terribly illogical plot. For understanding, I will give a short synopsis: the protagonist's aunt falls ill, from which she asks the character to find her brother in order to say goodbye to him; without any explanation and tips, the player goes to the city, and in the end is left alone with a huge location. No hints or links. Even without a short description of the problem.

Such a fun and varied customization...

The situation is aggravated wooden dialogues, the quality does not correspond to the genre of the game. Their presence does not bring interest to the gameplay due to its narrow focus; their influence is only limited by the risk of failing some minor quests. The only plus is the dependence of the text on the amount of intelligence of the character: a stupid but strong hero mumbles amusingly when a smart but weak one pleases with an abundance of epithets. Nevertheless, both heroes will come to the same conclusion - such is the variability.

But the main problem of the story lies far from this. I spat bitterly and bitterly after completing secondary tasks - they are terrible. As in any other, they take up most of the game time to complete, but not because of the large number, interest or quality - no. AT The Skies additional quests are few and incredibly long. It is here that one gets the impression that the developers, without much excitement and diligence, reacted to the implementation of all the aspects promised to the players.

The gameplay starts from pumping character attributes, from the list of which appear: strength, dexterity, endurance and intelligence - in the idea they determine the style of the game, in practice it all comes down to already proven schemes. So, building up dexterity and strength is promising for a character: the first allows you to steal and move quickly with impunity, the second increases the amount of health and damage done. All attempts to diversify the leveling tree and link together other attributes of practicality do not carry.

All additional quests are of the same nature.

In parallel with the main attributes, there are additional skills that depend on the development of the first. Of all the available ones, the ability to handle heavy, medium, light and melee classes of weapons, effectively use first-aid kits, and also receive a bonus from the extracted resources stand out. Such skills, in contrast to the main characteristics, bring a good share of diversity to the gameplay: in the future, their development can be converted into full-fledged classes for playing in a cooperative.

Having skipped the description of a large number of different aspects, mostly still unfinished, I will go straight to the sensations from gameplay. Impressions are different: on the one hand, you feel a hard bottom with your feet and a lot of different conceived, implemented and completely unrealized details that are dragging the game down like a burden. On the other hand, the idea of the creator is understood - beautiful, diverse and even new - cruelly thrown and left as a result on a crumpled sheet of paper.

The game is boring and unattractive, but it has the ability to drag out any MMO grinder. This property is enhanced if you play with friends: in a cheerful company, even additional quests seem interesting. Joint trips to the bosses stand out in particular - I still recall with rapture how I, with a small company of strangers, visited an abandoned multi-story business center, captured by a gang of fierce bandits. A lot of ammo was wasted then.

I wouldn't mind these glasses.

Speaking of ammo: a very important resource along with weapons, water, food or a first aid kit. All provisions are obtained from killed mobs or bought from available NPCs for nuts - an in-game currency - or for donated gold on the Black Market.

Parsing the above on the shelves, I note: in addition to natural sources of inventory, there is an advanced one for The Skies crafting. Any object, whether it be a machine gun or a mine, is assembled in detail using improvised means and recipes. Ammunition, various dishes, clothes, some medicines - all things available for hand-made creation are correlated to the relevant sections.

When one game element goes into a plus, the other drags into a minus. Yes, bright red donation system: Almost every in-game aspect is subject to the possible influence of premium status or real currency. In the leveling tree, it is allowed to reset all earned skills, at any time you can buy some item with a lion's discount on the Black Market or get a strong boost to experience and gold - all this is available for real money.

Having wandered around the empty and dead location in PvE mode to my heart’s content, I switched to PvP. Of course, not without problems: the server at first refused to let me into the arena, but then gave up, placing me in the only available lobby with a couple of people, with a declared maximum number of 20. After a dreary wait, I participated in the standard capture the flag, after receiving deaths some experience and gold.

Skies is a post-apocalyptic MMORPG with a non-linear storyline. The project is being developed by a studio from Luhansk Eforb and has already managed to collect good reviews on Steam even at the early access stage.

The story of the game takes place at the beginning of the 21st century, when solar activity has increased dramatically. In two weeks, the world collapsed, all power sources, governments and infrastructure of cities were destroyed. Mankind descended into darkness... And only 150 years later, the sun's rays illuminated the Earth, launching a new round in the development of mankind.

Of the features of the game, one can single out a large open world - 12 square kilometers, which they promise to expand to 200 in the future. An interesting role-playing system, where, based on the decisions made, appropriate choices will appear in the dialogues. Many types of earnings from employment as a worker in a factory, to hiring people and running your own business. Well, what about any sandbox without crafting? Weapons, uniforms, construction, trade items - everything is available to create with your own hands.

But the PvP in the game is quite peculiar, there are both clan wars and regular skirmishes, but the most interesting, it seems, are the battles in arenas with several modes: capture the flag, save territories and survive.

In general, according to the editors of MMO13 - The SKIES has great potential even at the early access stage, which distinguishes this project from many similar games in this genre.

More than thirty-five years have passed since the release of Mad Max. This cult Australian film later became the catalyst for the development of dozens of successful games. And perhaps the most hit among them became. Over time, this RPG, made in a post-apocalyptic setting, has a whole series of imitators. But no one really succeeded in creating a multiplayer shooter or role-playing game that would appeal to all fans of the genre. Perhaps the little-known Eforb studio can fix the situation?

What does it represent?

The Skies is so far almost unknown to anyone with a first-person view, the events of which unfold in a typical "post-apocaly". So, in the courtyard of the middle of the twenty-second century. Our planet has become a real wasteland. But not because of a nuclear war or any other catastrophes that happened through the fault of people, but because of the increased solar activity at the beginning of the twenty-first century, which led to a real cataclysm.

Only a group of people survived this apocalypse. And their descendants have to survive on a vast territory. Scorched and devastated. Will the human race be able to continue its existence in such conditions?

Of course, the project was almost immediately dubbed a clone of Fallout and other similar projects. But it has many of its own unique features and characteristics. Although in general the universe in which users have to fight for their place under the sun is very similar to the world of "" and other post-apocalyptic universes.

In the review of The Skies, it should be mentioned that at the moment the game is in early access on Steam and still continues to “finish”, so you shouldn’t find fault with its shortcomings. Although, in fairness, it should be noted that a considerable number of users have already become interested in it. In general, we are waiting for the official release, which should take place at the end of 2016. Then it will be possible to form an objective opinion about how successful this project will be in the future. Although even now, in early access, developers almost daily strive to improve their brainchild, as evidenced by constant improvements and patches.

Key Features

As for the things that are worth playing The Skies for, there are not so few of them. For example, this:

  1. A huge well-developed world, which the creators plan to expand to several hundred kilometers.
  2. An interesting plot and a large number of quests and tasks.
  3. Settlements and cities living according to their own laws, the further existence of which can be influenced by each user.
  4. The original system of customization and leveling of characters.
  5. Large selection of weapons and ammunition.
  6. Unusual combat system.
  7. Pumpable vehicles (from living creatures like a large boar, to cars and motorcycles), without which traveling through the wasteland can turn into real flour.

Verdict

In terms of atmosphere and gameplay, despite the first-person view, many users can compare The Skies with a number of other projects. The same Fallout. And yes. There is a lot in common between them. But the developers from Eforb managed to endow life in the wasteland with their own unique features and chips. So to some extent, this project can become truly innovative. It remains only to wait for the final release to be convinced of this.
