For those who have just started drawing, the issue of organizing space for creativity and purchasing an easel often becomes incredibly relevant. If you have already looked into a specialty store, you might have noticed how expensive these accessories are - the tripod or cracker versions. But do not despair and give up your favorite pastime. At home, you can make an easel with your own hands and organize a high-quality workplace for the artist. At the same time, you will save a lot of money, which you can later spend with great pleasure on the purchase of paints, brushes and other accessories for your hobby. If you decide to make an easel with your own hands, it will not be difficult for you to make drawings with dimensions.

Step-by-step MK for creating an easel with your own hands

Making an easel with your own hands for drawing is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. In fact, such a task is quite feasible. Of course, not every woman can cope with it, but a man can easily solve such a problem and, without much difficulty, assemble a structure intended for fine arts.

Above are the drawings for creating an easel. One of them allows you to determine the dimensions as accurately as possible. Based on them, you can make your drawings of the easel and determine the dimensions of the structure.

What do you need to create a personal easel for painting with your own hands? Here is a list of tools and materials that will be useful to you in the manufacture:

  • wood glue;
  • door hinge (2 cm) - 1 pc.;

The process of making an easel

So, how to make an easel with your own hands at home? If you have prepared all the necessary materials and tools for work, then you can safely get down to business. There is nothing impossible here. So, we work step by step.

  1. First you need to prepare the bars, which will become the basis of the easel. If you decide to make an easel with your own hands, it is very easy to determine the drawings with dimensions. It is necessary to make 2 bars 168 cm long, 1 element 53 cm, 1 piece 146 cm. You will also need to cut the fragment into 39 cm and 154 cm. These are the dimensions of the main parts.

  1. All bars must be thoroughly sanded. To do this, you will need to use a special grinder. You need to carefully walk along the ends with sandpaper. Do not forget to use construction gloves at this stage of work. In principle, it is best to always work with wood in them in order to avoid injury to the hands or even elementary splinters under the skin.

On a note! If you use pine bars, then keep in mind that there will be a lot of knots on the parts. That is why the slats will have to be thoroughly processed. It is best to use power tools for this, since such wood, as the craftsmen say, exfoliates.

  1. All bars must be sanded. You will need to assemble the frame of the easel. It is necessary to approach this work as carefully and responsibly as possible. It is optimal to do such work on a tiled floor, since the tiles are laid out at a right angle. Such a surface will be a wonderful guideline when leveling the bars.

  1. Having decided to assemble an easel for drawing with your own hands, it is also easy to make drawings with dimensions. Based on them, the easel should be assembled from the central bar. This is a 146 cm rail. You need to put the part on the floor. It should lie strictly parallel to the seam that goes on the tiled floor between the tiles.

Note! If your house does not have rooms where the floors are tiled, it is recommended to make temporary markings on a regular floor. To do this, it is best to use electrical tape or tape. Such a "frame" will be a good axis for assembling the structure.

  1. You will need to assemble 2 supports. Each of them is equal to 168 cm. Then it is necessary to fix the overlapping slats of 53 and 39 cm. The slats must also be fastened together. To do this, they will need to first make holes. For this, it is best to use drills with a diameter of 6 mm. Joints should be coated with wood glue. The parts themselves will need to be placed relative to each other. Self-tapping screws should fix the joints.

  1. Next comes the door hinge. It must be installed on the rear rail, the length of which is 39 cm. The part is placed in the center. With its help, a rail 154 cm long is attached to a small bar. It will need to be adjusted along the length. It is optimal to use a drill with a diameter of 6 mm for fixing.

  1. Next, you need to complete the shelves that are needed for the stretcher. To do this, you need to take a platband. It is good if its width is 5 cm. The optimal length of the part is 60 cm. In total, 3 such elements will need to be prepared. You need to make 2 holes. They are performed at a distance of 15 cm from the edge of the part. To do this, use a drill with a diameter of 8 mm. Only 2 of the planks need to be fastened with nails with a hammer. They are placed at right angles to each other. The result is just a wonderful shelf. The back bar will prove to be a good retainer for this element.

The glue must dry thoroughly. It is recommended to give him 1 day for this. After 24 hours, you can safely continue assembling your own easel. It will need to be installed in a horizontal position. Now you need to fix the shelf for the stretcher. It must be adjusted independently in terms of height so that the artist can work comfortably. Also at this stage, you should fix the hinged hook. It is this part that will hold the rear support.

On a note! You can complete the work on creating your own wooden easel at home by painting. To do this, it is best to use stain or colorless varnish. But you can take another paint you like.

Step-by-step MK for creating a folding children's easel with your own hands

For beginner young artists, you can make the simplest, but quite easy-to-use desktop easel for drawing from a cardboard box. Such a design is made elementary simple. Her mother or older sister can easily make it without male help. There is absolutely no need to nail, cut or clean with sandpaper. The entire work on creating an elementary simple easel for a child will take no more than 10 minutes.

Necessary materials and tools

So, how to make an easel with your own hands for a child at home? A folding version from improvised materials is easy to make. To make a primitive easel for children's creative activities, you will need to use the most unpretentious and affordable materials for everyone. So, here's what will be needed in order to make a children's easel with your own hands:

  • carton boxes;
  • thick adhesive tape;
  • scissors;
  • Velcro;
  • stationery knife.

The process of creating a children's easel from a cardboard box

Making a small folding easel out of a cardboard box on your own, as mentioned above, is as easy as shelling pears.

  1. The first step is to prepare all the necessary tools and materials. As for Velcro, it is not at all necessary to go to a specialized store that sells sewing accessories. If there are old and already unnecessary shoes or clothes at home, then such a device can be cut off from them. Look, for sure there are Velcro on old covers for tablets or phones. Then you need to deal with the selected cardboard boxes. Here, too, it should be noted that to create an easel, sufficiently large containers are needed. In a small area, the child will simply not be interested in drawing. Cut off 2 sides of the box. These are adjacent planes connected by a common angle. You don't need to cut it!

  1. The two cardboard sides should be folded. It is best to install them at an acute angle (30-40 degrees is optimal). But here you should independently adjust the degree of inclination, focusing on how it is more convenient for your child to draw. "Velcro" you need to fix the result.

On a note! If in the house, at hand, you did not have Velcro - neither old nor new, then you should not be upset. You can always replace them with the usual tape. He is always in use!

Of course, a completely fair question may arise about how to use the resulting design during creative activities. Everything is simple here. The next sheet for the drawing can be fixed with buttons or tape. As necessary, the used canvas is removed and clean paper is attached in the same way.

What do you like to draw the most?

The creative activity of a novice or professional artist is closely related to an inalienable thing - an easel. This is a necessary attribute of creativity both at home, in the studio or on trips to sketches, to nature. Today we will talk about how to make an easel with your own hands (drawings with dimensions).

What is an easel - features and types

The work of even a novice and young artist implies the presence of an easel.
Usually it is represented by several main types:

  • desktop - resembles in appearance a large tablet made of a thin sheet of chipboard, to which a sheet of paper is pinned;
  • folding;
  • decorative - used to place paintings at exhibitions (as one of the options for studio placement);
  • seated - it is more correct to say that the artist can hold it in his arms while in a sitting position. Often small in size.

Artists use it not only as an object on which the creative process takes place, but also as an option for storing works and evaluating their quality near or far. This method allows the creator to evaluate the quality of the angle and, if necessary, eliminate defects.

When a child goes to art school, the presence of an easel is a prerequisite, because paintings are not created on tables, but only on these special devices. This condition puts parents in a dilemma - buy ready-made or do it yourself. The same problem may also apply to persons with experience in artistic creation.

Let's start with the fact that finished products of this kind are not a cheap pleasure, but a lot of money is spent on creative work. Therefore, it is easier to solve this problem yourself by applying our tips and drawings from the Internet.

Creativity in creativity

Truly, this process can be called "creativity in creativity", because the easel itself is its element. As you know, an artist can paint a picture for a long period of time, depending on personal mood and inspiration. Making an easel will take an average of about 2 hours. Even in the absence of certain skills, the process will drag on for a maximum of another 1 hour - still less than painting a picture. The main thing is to step by step perform all the described actions and make efforts. Let's start with a list of materials needed to create this
products:

  • 3 pieces of pine slats, 3 meters long and with parameters 4.5 × 2 cm;
  • 6 pieces of self-tapping screws with a diameter of 34 × 2.9 and 4 pieces - 16.5 by 2.7 mm;
  • 4 pieces of nails without caps 2 cm long;
  • 2 pieces of furniture screws with washers and nuts (known as “lambs”);
  • 1 hanging hook 13 cm;
  • 1 door hinge 2 cm;
  • glue for woodworking;
  • sandpaper No. 100 or 120 + 1 emery wheel.

You will also need an appropriate set of tools in the form of a grinder, electric jigsaw, wood saw, gloves, ruler and meter, Phillips screwdriver, construction pencil, hammer, drill (drills with a diameter of 6 and 8 mm), electric screwdriver.

An easel is one of the main attributes of an artist. In specialized stores, the cost of a picture stand can reach several thousand rubles. But armed with a clear drawing and step-by-step instructions on how to make an easel with your own hands, you can make it yourself.

Cardboard easel

The easiest and fastest way is to make an easel with your own hands from cardboard.

These picture stands are very easy to fold and require minimal storage space.

What needs to be prepared

To create a cardboard easel you will need:

  • square cardboard boxes with dimensions of at least 18x18x16 cm;
  • masking tape;
  • scissors;
  • stationery knife;
  • double sided velcro.

To create an easel, boxes from under household appliances are perfect.

To secure the sheets, you will additionally need adhesive tape or several clerical clips.

Manufacturing process

The workflow for creating a homemade cardboard easel consists of the following steps:

1. At the cardboard box, its upper and lower parts are removed, and the sides are cut along opposite edges. The result will be two parts, consisting of the connected sides of the box. Cardboard scraps can be saved for future masterpieces.

From one cardboard box you can make two easels

2. Masking tape is cut into two pieces about 26 cm long. One blank should be glued to the inner surface of one of the sides of the future easel, folded in half and attached to the outer surface of the cardboard as shown in the photo.

The described manipulation is also done with the second piece of masking tape.

3. A small piece of double-sided Velcro is attached with one side to the masking tape, and the other side to the outer surface of the second.

Sheets of paper for drawing on such an easel can be glued with adhesive tape or attached with stationery clips.

The cardboard easel is very light and able to move while drawing, so it is recommended to fix it on the table surface with double-sided tape before work.

Wooden easel

Wooden structures are more reliable and durable. But to create a wooden easel, more material costs and minimal skills are required to work with this material.

What tools and materials will be needed

For the workflow for making an easel with your own hands, you need to prepare:

  • glue for wood;
  • door hinge size 20 mm;
  • sandpaper 100-200;
  • cross screwdriver;
  • pine slats 45 * 20 mm in size and 3 meters long - 3 pcs. ;
  • platband 5 cm wide, 60 cm long - 3 pcs. ;
  • roulette;
  • ruler;
  • hinged hook size 130 mm;
  • nails without caps 20 mm long - 4 pcs.;
  • emery wheel 100 - 200 - 1 pc. ;
  • wood saw;
  • screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws 34 * 2.9 mm - 6 pcs.;
  • self-tapping screws 16.5 * 2.7 mm - 4 pcs.;
  • drill with drills 6 and 8 mm;
  • grinder;
  • jigsaw;
  • construction pencil;
  • a hammer;
  • furniture screws with washers and nuts measuring 72 * 5.2 mm - 2 pcs.

To prevent injury, all work with wood must be carried out with construction gloves.

Step-by-step instruction

Competent drawing and detailed instructions will help to simplify the workflow as much as possible. An approximate drawing with dimensions is shown in the figure below.

Drawing of the future easel

The manufacturing process consists of the following steps:

  1. Bar preparation. First of all, pine bars are sawn according to the drawing. They will serve as the basis for the future easel.

Basic structural elements

For work, you will need bars of the following sizes:

  • 168 cm - 2 pcs.;
  • 154 cm - 1 piece;
  • 146 cm - 1 piece;
  • 53 cm - 1 piece;
  • 39 cm - 1 pc.

2. Processing of wooden parts.

In order for all prepared wood blanks to be perfectly smooth, their parts must be carefully processed from all sides with a grinder, and the ends must be sanded with sandpaper.

At this stage, it is recommended to use construction gloves to protect your hands from damage.

It should be remembered that pine has a large number of knots. It is this property that is the main reason for the mandatory and high-quality processing. To prevent delamination of wood, experts recommend using power tools in work.

3. Assembly of the frame.

When assembling the frame, it is important not to make mistakes.

After careful processing of all wooden blanks, they begin to mount the frame of the future easel.

Experts recommend carrying out this stage of work in a room with a tiled floor. This is due to the fact that the tiles are most often laid at an angle of 90 degrees, and such a floor covering will be an excellent guide for leveling the bars.

The structure begins to be assembled from the central bar, which is a piece 146 cm long. It is placed on the floor parallel to the tile joint. In the absence of such a coating, temporary markings can be made using adhesive tape or electrical tape.

Two supports are constructed from bars of 168 cm each. After that, blanks of 39 and 53 cm are overlapped. To fasten the bars together, it is necessary to pre-drill holes in the required places using a drill with a diameter of 6 mm. Then coat the mating surfaces with wood glue, fix the parts relative to each other, and fix the joints with self-tapping screws.

Then, with the help of a door hinge, a support 154 cm long is attached to the rear bar 39 cm long in the center. Dimensional adjustments should be made if necessary. To connect the workpieces, it is recommended to use a drill with a diameter of 6 mm.

4. Making shelves.

After completing the installation of the frame, you can proceed to the design of the shelves, which are located on the stretcher. This will require three platbands 60 cm long and 5 cm wide. Two holes are made on each part with a drill with a diameter of 8 mm, stepping back 15 cm from the edge of the workpiece.

After that, two platbands are fastened together at a right angle with nails and a hammer to form a shelf. The third trim will serve to fix the shelf at the back.

easel shelf

5. Final assembly of the easel.

Approximately 24 hours after the glue has completely dried, you can proceed to the final installation of the easel.

To do this, it is necessary to install the structure horizontally, fix the finished shelf for the stretcher with furniture screws with washers and nuts, adjusting it in height.

Attach a hanging hook to hold the rear support rail in position.

The final step in creating an easel with your own hands is its coloring. To do this, you can use ordinary paint of the desired color, stain or clear varnish.

Homemade easel is ready

Making a mini easel

You can also make a mini-easel with your own hands, which is ideal for beginner artists, those who like to paint small pictures and owners of small rooms.

It will take a minimum of time to make it, and the finished design will decorate any workshop.

What to prepare

To create a homemade mini easel, you need the following tools and materials:

  • glazing bead with a section of 6 by 8 mm;
  • hacksaw;
  • awl;
  • drill;
  • furniture wing screw;
  • glue for wood;
  • small carnations;
  • sandpaper;
  • a hammer;
  • stapler;
  • simple pencil;
  • ruler.

Manufacturing steps

The manufacturing process of a mini easel consists of the following steps:

1. Cut the bead into 4 parts to create a support:

  • two identical with an acute angle 15 cm long;
  • one 14 cm long;
  • rail for the crossbar 12 cm long;
  • four blanks for the stretcher: two pieces of 10 cm and two pieces of 13 cm.

2. Fold the prepared three parts for the support as follows: in the middle there should be a rail 14 cm long, and on the sides of it - rails 15 cm each.

3. Carefully sand all prepared parts with fine-grained sandpaper until smooth, paying special attention to the corners.

4. Lay the blanks for the support of the mini easel on a flat surface, connect them together and draw a straight line, which will serve as a guide for drilling holes for mounting. The points of future holes must be marked with an awl, and then carefully drilled with a drill or screwdriver with a thin drill.

7. First connect the blanks for the stretcher with wood glue, and after it has completely dried, fix it with a stapler.

8. Cover the finished mini easel with a layer of ordinary paint, colorless varnish or stain.

A do-it-yourself easel will not only help reduce cash costs and become a good assistant to the artist, but also decorate the interior of the workshop. It is not difficult to make it, even the fair sex can do it.

  1. The simplest case
  2. Which one to do first?
  3. floor standing
  4. Desktop (for watercolor)
  5. Another transformer

Anyone who has taken up painting and/or started to learn it soon realizes that one should not draw on a table, but from an easel. He is a realist, who paints nature in the subtlest way, or a completely reckless avant-garde artist, for whom painting is a means to shock the most respectable audience, without an easel in all this, so to speak, range of values, little will come of it. However, a “real professional” easel is by no means cheap, and what if you only try yourself in the fine arts or do painting from time to time? You need to make an easel with your own hands. Do not be afraid, you will not break your hand, you will not fall out of the crystal tower - making an easel does not require great physical effort, expensive materials, special tools and skills in using them. Can you make a picture frame yourself? Then the easel will turn out.

The process of oil painting from an easel

The simplest case

Temporary easel stretcher

In the simplest way, you can make an easel - a stretcher. This is a temporary canvas holder that can come in handy, firstly, if you are just trying yourself - will it work? Secondly, if you paint occasionally; let's say, once a year, not every year you are on vacation "breaks into a daub." Artists, I'm sorry, but you yourself don't even use such expressions. And not only among themselves privately. Thirdly, stretcher easels are often used by portrait painters working at the customer's home.

Your first simple easel is best done with the front legs, which are a continuation of the sidewalls of the stretcher, see fig. on right. When stretching the canvas at the feet, leave its laps. When the picture is ready, the back support is removed, the legs are carefully sawn off, the canvas overlaps are attached to the crossbars. In the future, the same legs can be used to create the next opus; then they are nailed to the back of the stretcher with the canvas already stretched.

Note: some advantage of the easel-stretcher, especially when working on the road - it does not need to be transported anywhere or stored somewhere. Until the work is created or when it has already been created, the easel-stretcher simply does not exist.

Which one to do first?

Let's say you have already decided - yes, I need a permanent easel. Easels are, firstly, floor and desktop. Secondly, both are stationary or folding mobile (mobile / marching, wearable or transportable). If your child loves to draw and shows good inclinations in this, then at first he will need one universal desktop drawing easel (for watercolor), see below. If you intend to seriously engage in painting yourself, you will need a pair of floor, stationary and mobile, and at least one desktop.

Any of these easels can be made at home. Which one to do first depends on your (or your child's) genre preferences and style of work. To practice mainly easel painting, you will need, first of all, a mobile floor easel, then a desktop drawing easel, and then, if there is a room for an art workshop, a floor stationary one. If you prefer small forms (miniature, caricature, etc.), the first thing to do is to make an easel for watercolor.

floor standing

The stretcher with primed canvas weighs several kg; large - up to several tens of kg. But it should be easily and simply installed on the easel, as well as removed from it, however, it should be securely held on the easel during operation. The canvas (paper, cardboard, board) should be sufficiently, evenly and directly illuminated, for which the working light source is located low behind the artist, but the canvas should not be obscured by it when working, both sitting and standing.

The main types of floor easels for easel painting were developed at the beginning of the Renaissance and described by Vasari in his Biographies. Folding easel-tripod (pos. 1 in the figure below) - mobile. It is the easiest to make, it does not take up much storage space and is useful if the size of the picture does not exceed approx. 100x80 cm, and each working session does not last long. The canvas on the tripod is not fixed in any way, it just lies on the easel. If its supports (or support, see below) are placed high, a sufficiently large canvas becomes unstable. If, however, the canvas is placed low, then, while working while standing, it is difficult to illuminate it evenly and the eyes get tired, and when working sitting on a large canvas, the hand on weight soon gets tired; The painter cannot lose the fidelity of the eye and the firmness of the hand.

The main types of easels for easel painting

Note: now about one, then about the other masters of the Renaissance there is a legend. Some rich connoisseur and philanthropist (usually called Lorenzo de Medici the Magnificent) decided to invite him to work and sent one of his relatives for this. He, knowing nothing about painting, but wanting to curry favor, demanded a trial work from the artist. A variant of the legend - the messenger desired to get his portrait of the work of the great master for nothing. He shrugged his shoulders and drew a circle by hand as smoothly and precisely as with a compass; the envoy had no choice but to present such a test to the sovereign. He, immediately realizing what had happened, burst out laughing, went to the master himself (an option - sent a personal message with an invitation), and demoted the rather zealous servant.

The easel-lyre (pos. 2) is so named for its remote resemblance to the ancient Greek musical instrument; well, without a developed associative thinking in art and literature, there is nothing to do. An easel-lyre can be considered a universal one from the floor: you can put a canvas up to 1.2x1.8 m in size on it, and at the same time it can be both stationary and mobile. Easel-machine, pos. 3, (from where - easel painting) is used to create paintings of large sizes up to extraordinary.

I have long wanted to buy an easel, but then there is no time, then the prices bite. Then I began to look for diagrams or drawings of an easel on the Internet and ... I did not find anything. They are not there. I began to look at the pictures, study, and decided to make it myself.

No sooner said than done. I bought a timber, threw a drawing and made it. And you know, it's not bad.
The easel turned out to be very light, foldable, collapsible and versatile.
The fact is that in the manufacture of the easel, the main task was to make it foldable so that it could be stored and transported compactly, and the second point is that one could draw on the easel both sitting and standing. Those. the bar on which the canvas stands had to be adjustable in height. I did all this, but you can judge how it turned out.

Materials:

Bars 20x40 mm.
piano loop
Bolts 6x50 mm., washers, nuts (wings). x 5 pcs.

Difficulty 4.
Working time 1.5 hours.

I offer your attention to a drawing of my own making. A large drawing can be downloaded from my blog.

For greater aesthetics, the easel can be covered with mordant or varnished.

Sooner or later, the question arises about the convenience of drawing, let's say about your workplace, if you draw on, or on flat small surfaces, then you just need an easel. In fact, this is not such a scarce thing, in principle, you can find it at a reasonable price, but I decided to go the other way and make an easel just for myself. Without being cunning for a long time, I looked through the photos on the Internet and decided to make myself a three-legged easel. Having thrown an easel scheme on paper, having estimated the approximate dimensions, I went to a hardware store, where I bought myself wooden blocks, a loop, bolts, self-tapping screws, a lamb and the simplest tinting varnish, after which I actually began the process of manufacturing, painting and assembling. Here's what I ended up with!

The drawing of the easel.

I haven’t drawn anything for a long time, and the drawing itself was made, say, hastily in photoshop, and not in a drawing program, as it was in my student years.

Disassembled easel.

After all the sawing, drilling, painting, I got the following details.

Assembled easel.

The easel is in working order.

Total spent:
Plank 40*18*200 - 4 pieces
Plank 30*18*200 - 2 pcs
Loop - 1 piece
Bolts 8*80 - 6 pieces
Bolt 8*100 - 1 piece
Washers d8 - 10 pcs
Lamb d8 - 7 pcs
self-tapping screws

On the legs, I would still recommend using a slightly thicker plank, 18mm is not enough in my opinion. The easel obviously didn’t turn out to be camping, but that’s what I needed, in principle, reducing the height of such a design is not a problem, that is, making it more compact, but then it is necessary to recalculate the dimensions of the legs and drilling the holes in the canvas stand and the supports themselves.
