Ilya Novikov was kicked out of the club “What? Where? When?"

Ilya Novikov is expelled from the “What? Where? When?" for defending a Ukrainian pilot as a lawyer.

Ilya Novikov was expelled from the “What? Where? When?" for representing the interests of the former Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko in court.

TV presenter Boris Kryuk spoke about this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.

“For all my good attitude towards Ilya, he had to first choose what was more important for him - a club or a political career, and then deal with Savchenko. Understand, if you defend Savchenko and you are a “ChGK” player, then “ChGK” is also for Savchenko,” said Boris Kryuk.

The TV presenter also emphasized that ChGK has nothing to do with politics: “If you decide to get involved in politics, you need to say: thank you, I will do it. First, say goodbye to us, and then deal with Savchenko.”

As an example, when the reputation of the community suffered due to the actions of players, he cited the incident that happened with expert Georgy Zharkov, who participated in the television version of the game since 1994 ().

“A criminal case was opened against him for molesting students. Excuse me, but people immediately began to associate "What? Where? When?" and pedophilia,” Hook noted.

Graduated with honors from the Russian Academy of Justice.

Since 2005, he has been teaching there at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Advanced Training for Judges.

Since August 2011 - senior partner in the law office "Goncharova, Novikov and Partners".

Since January 2013 - partner of the consulting company Tenzor Consulting Group. Currently has the status of a lawyer. Among Novikov’s clients is Ukrainian serviceman Nadezhda Savchenko, convicted in Russia for involvement in the murder of Russian journalists. In connection with this case, I learned Ukrainian in less than 2 years.

He made his debut in “What? Where? When?" in 2002. He was repeatedly recognized as the best player of the team, repeatedly received the highest awards in the television game - “Crystal Owl”, as well as “Diamond Owl”.

In the sports version of the game he plays for the Ksep team. Multiple medalist of world championships, world champion in 2014. Champion of Russia in 2002, 2013 and 2014. Winner of the Nations Cup (unofficially called the “World Championship among national teams”) in 2006 as part of the Russian national team. Winner of the 2005 ChGK European Student Cup. According to the website of the MAK ChGK, it is one of the 11 players who took part in all ten of the first world championships in sports “What? Where? When?".

Ilya Novikov is a famous Russian lawyer, whose biography details many people want to know. After all, he distinguished himself not only for his achievements in the intellectual game show, but also for the colorful court hearings in which he took part. Therefore, in the article we will tell you about the path Ilya took before he became a people’s favorite and, at the same time, an “enemy of the Kremlin.”

Ilya Novikov was born in one of the Moscow maternity hospitals on February 11, 1982. Since childhood, the boy was drawn to books and, unlike his peers, Ilya sat for hours reading. Such curiosity helped him graduate from school with flying colors and enter the Russian Academy of Justice.

As a student, Ilya not only managed to master the standard curriculum, but also continued to enjoy reading, which became an excellent “foundation” for his subsequent participation in the show “What? Where? When?".

Interesting! According to his loved ones, Ilya loves reading so much that he buys himself more than 10 books a month.

In 2005, Novikov graduated from university with honors and got a job in a law office. Despite his young age, Ilya is already entrusted with the Wasserman case related to the Mary Jane company, which he wins in court. At the same time, Novikov is engaged in teaching, which he later abandons because he does not have enough time for judicial practice.

Since 2013, Ilya has become an employee and partner of a well-known law firm. He mainly dealt with disputes and issues related to economic offenses.

Ilya Novikov defended Nadezhda Savchenko in Russia

The only exception was the case of Lektorovich - the culprit of the accident, as a result of which a young girl died. The family of the accused turned to Ilya because the residents of the village in which they lived had boycotted them. Novikov was able not only to help the accused, achieving a well-deserved sentence of imprisonment for a period of three years, but also reassured people so that they would not persecute Lektorovich and his relatives.

But lawyer Ilya Novikov caused a real stir among the public by defending the military pilot from Ukraine Nadezhda Savchenko. Five years ago, a woman was detained by Russian law enforcement officers on suspicion of murdering several Russian media representatives and crossing the border without warning. Ilya himself believes that this whole matter is based more on political machinations. Therefore, Savchenko’s release from custody is not his merit at all.

"What? Where? When?"

Novikov first appeared on television at the age of fourteen, when he participated in the intellectual program “Wheel of Fortune.” Unfortunately, the game was lost for him, as the young man could not answer just one question.

Then, Ilya again tries himself in another intellectual project, after which he is invited to take part in the famous TV show “What? Where? When?". It was a simple sports tournament in which Ilya’s team took an honorable first place. It was this that became their “entrance ticket” to the full-scale television version of the show.

Despite the fact that the first few games were not entirely successful, Novikov continues to work hard on his knowledge, increasing it. As a result, already in 2004 Ilya becomes the best player, for which he receives a cup in the form of a crystal owl. In 2011, another crystal bird was added to his collection.

After 3 years, Novikov received the “Diamond Owl”, and in 2016 he was kicked out of the club because he came to the defense of Savchenko. It was officially announced that the man himself left the television project, but behind the scenes everyone understood the true reason for these circumstances.

Personal life

Novikov was lucky with his career, but as for relationships, things are not going as smoothly as he would like. At first, he was credited with an affair with Elena Potanina, who was also a member of the club of experts. They appeared together not only at parties and various events, but even on TV. At one of the meetings of the club of intellectuals “What? Where? When?" Elena announced that the lawyer proposed marriage to her. That was where it all ended, as the couple soon separated.

And although Novikov hid his subsequent “love affairs,” it turned out that he was still married to Anna Shutova, who was also a member of the intellectual club. After a two-year relationship, the lovers got married. They did this not in the usual registry office, but at the North Pole on an icebreaker, where they were signed by the captain of the ship. After two years of happy married life, the couple broke up. There were rumors in his close circle that Ilya, while married, had an affair on the side. But neither Ilya Novikov nor his ex-wife commented on the breakup or its reason.

Ilya Novikov now

Today, Novikov’s life, as before, is still as busy. In 2017-2018, he managed to:

  • win several court hearings;
  • become a laureate of the prestigious award. S.L. Arias;

  • take part in the Ukrainian meeting of the club of experts;
  • actively maintain your pages on social networks;
  • write books.

Interesting! INIn one of his interviews, Ilya said that he is not at all worried about being expelled from the Russian version of “What? Where? When?”, since this TV show is not as priority for him as those lives that he did not allow the government to “break”.

Ilya Novikov is a lawyer, former player of the Russian television club “What? Where? When?". Known for his participation in the trial of the Ukrainian pilot. Many call the lawyer an “enemy of the Kremlin,” but others consider him a champion of truth and justice, a guardian of the law and a symbol of the fight for one’s own opinion.

Ilya Sergeevich Novikov was born on February 11, 1982 in Moscow. His mother is Ukrainian by origin, and his father is Russian. Since childhood, the boy gravitated towards knowledge and read a lot, buying up to 10 books a month. In high school I became seriously interested in intellectual games. The guy’s favorite TV show was the show “What? Where? When?”, and Ilya himself dreamed of getting into this program. At the same time, the future lawyer read Erle Stanley Gardner's detective stories about lawyer Perry Mason and decided to become a lawyer. After graduating from school, Novikov submitted documents to the Russian Academy of Justice. As a student, the young man became a member of a team that participated in the sports version of the game “What? Where? When?".

After graduating with honors from the academy in 2005, Ilya began practicing law and began teaching at the department of criminal procedure. Later, Novikov began teaching judges at advanced training courses. However, being a practicing lawyer, I had to give up work at the Faculty of Advanced Training in order to continue working in court.

In August 2011, Ilya became a senior partner in the law firm Goncharova, Novikov and Partners. Subsequently, Novikov became the lawyer of a famous expert, who filed a lawsuit against the Mary Jane company, which was illegally using the image of the erudite. The lawyer was able to prove the similarity of the image created by the company to his client. Thanks to Novikov’s efforts, Wasserman should have received compensation of 110 thousand rubles.

In January 2013, Novikov became a partner in the law firm Tenzor Consulting Group, where he dealt with arbitration disputes and cases related to economic crimes.

In 2013, Ilya Sergeevich became a lawyer in the high-profile case of Tolyatti businessman Sergei Lektorovich. The lawyer's client was accused of violating traffic rules, which led to an accident and the death of a young girl. Lektorovich's relatives turned to an expert and a lawyer after city residents turned against the accused. Novikov achieved a fair court decision, reassuring the public: the client was found guilty, the criminal received a well-deserved punishment in the form of 3 years in a penal colony, and also paid monetary compensation to the family of the deceased.

Since 2014, Novikov has been part of the cohort of lawyers of the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko. Ilya’s client was accused of complicity in the murder of two Russian journalists near Lugansk. Later, the charges were added to the charges of illegally crossing the border of the Russian Federation. The lawyer himself believes that the issue of Savchenko’s release is not so much a court decision as a political decision by the Russian leadership. This case became the main one in Novikov’s professional biography.

"What? Where? When?"

Ilya Novikov made his debut on television at the age of 14 in the “Wheel of History” program. Then the guy did not become a winner, although he managed to answer the quiz question. Ilya also took part in the intellectual program “Own Game”, where he also did not win. Novikov participated in the show 3 more times, winning in 2001 and 2002.

In the television game “What? Where? When?”, which made Novikov famous, the guy got in 2002 thanks to his participation in the sports version of the program. The expert's team won the Russian championship, and the guys were invited to watch. Only Ilya managed to become a member of the elite club. Novikov ended up on Marina Ufaeva’s team, which did not win that game. But the young man was not upset, continued to improve his knowledge and became a regular participant in the show. Novikov lost the next 2 games again.

Success came to the connoisseur in 2004 after Novikov was repeatedly recognized as the best player on the team and awarded the Crystal Owl. This victory brought Novikov fame and popularity among television viewers.

In 2011, Ilya was nominated for the Crystal Owl for the second time, but Novikov refused the award in favor of Grigory Alkhazov, another connoisseur. In the same year, Ilya Sergeevich became a participant in the popular TV show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”

Ilya came to the project together with his club colleague. The experts managed to answer 10 questions correctly, but the 11th question brought defeat and a zero cash prize. At that time, Novikov also took part in the extreme show “Cruel Intentions”, where he reached the semi-finals in pair competitions with the singer.

In 2014, Novikov won the Crystal Owl and was also recognized as the best player of the year, receiving the Diamond Owl.

In August 2016, it became known that Ilya Sergeevich was leaving “What? Where? When?". The Russian press immediately reported that the lawyer left the club of experts because of his participation in the trial in the case of Nadezhda Savchenko. It is assumed that the protection of the Ukrainian pilot is the main reason why Novikov left the TV show.

It is known that the scandal began after an interview with the host of the TV quiz show, in which he stated that Novikov was obliged to leave the club of experts as soon as he decided to take on the case of the Ukrainian serviceman.

Personal life

Lawyer and expert Ilya Novikov does not like to discuss his personal life. The press reported that for some time the man dated a colleague in the ChGK game, Elena Potanina. The couple was so close that others perceived them as spouses.

Soon Elena announced that Ilya proposed to her. Novikov himself said in an interview that he has not met with Potanina for some time.

Ilya also met his future wife on the show “What? Where? When?". has been participating in the game since 2011. After meeting, the colleagues began a romantic relationship, and in July 2013 the couple went on a trip to the North Pole.

The connoisseurs, according to a long-standing maritime custom, were “painted” by the captain of the nuclear icebreaker Dmitry Lobusov. Legally, this marriage was not valid, but Ilya and Anastasia were going to later register their relationship in the registry office. The couple considered a trip to the North Pole an ideal wedding vacation, full of impressions and unforgettable memories.

This marriage lasted two years, and already in 2015 information appeared in the media that Novikov and Shutova had separated. The Russian press continued to actively discuss the personal life of the famous lawyer, suggesting that the man was having an affair with another girl - Yulia Arkhangelskaya, a participant in “What? Where? When?". However, these rumors were not officially confirmed.

Ilya Novikov now

In 2017, Ilya Novikov spoke in an interview with Radio Liberty about the affairs that he is involved in today, as well as about his participation in the Ukrainian “What? Where? When?". According to the lawyer, in the highest political circles of Russia over the past two years there has been a lot of talk about the Ukrainians, whom he continues to defend. Ilya also stated that he does not consider the loss of the program broadcast in the Russian Federation a disaster for himself, since he has already managed to participate in the Ukrainian version of the popular television program.

In July 2017, Ilya Novikov became a laureate of the Semyon Lvovich Ariya Prize. The ceremonial presentation of the award took place at the editorial office of Novaya Gazeta.

Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov noted that lawyer Semyon Lvovich Ariya devoted many years of his life to defending the publication in court. The front-line soldier, who went through the entire war, wrote a large number of books, and also wanted his work to be continued by young and promising lawyers who are able to defend the fundamental principles of order and legality.

“After the death of Semyon Lvovich Aria, the heirs and the editors decided to create a prize in his memory, annually presenting the award to young, but already proven lawyers. And this year the brightest and most talented lawyer is Ilya Novikov,” said Dmitry Muratov.

In turn, Novikov noted that Aria is an outstanding lawyer, whom he himself considers a teacher. According to Ilya, receiving such an award is a great honor for any professional in this field.

Today Novikov continues to practice law. Ilya Sergeevich devotes time to social networks. Often new lawyer publications appear on the microblogging service

As Kommersant learned, the former head of the abolished Federal Tariff Service (FTS) Sergei Novikov went to work at Rosatom. In the near future, a new position of deputy general director will be created for the ex-official in the state corporation. Its functionality will apparently include economic optimization, but Mr. Novikov at Rosatom will not touch upon tariff issues.

Former head of the Federal Tariff Service Sergei Novikov became an adviser to Rosatom General Director Sergei Kiriyenko, the state corporation told Kommersant. In the future, Mr. Novikov should receive the position of deputy general director at Rosatom; this position will be introduced in addition to the existing ones. The functions of the new deputy have not yet been precisely defined, but it is assumed that he will deal with economic issues, mainly cost reduction. According to Kommersant, we may be talking, for example, about reducing construction time, but procurement and financial issues will not be the responsibility of the new top manager. Sergei Novikov will also not deal with tariffs (in Rosatom this area concerns Rosenergoatom and Atomflot).

53-year-old Sergei Novikov headed the FTS in 2004-2015, being one of the longest-living officials in the Russian government. But this year the agency lost the hardware battle to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), and in the summer the president decided to merge the two services on the basis of the latter (the final liquidation of the FTS will be completed by March 2016). Mr. Novikov did not receive a new position then. For some time, Kommersant's interlocutors assumed that he would become deputy president of Russian Railways OJSC Vladimir Yakunin, but he himself was soon fired.

The appointment of Sergei Novikov at Rosatom is not particularly surprising, since he already has extensive experience working with Sergei Kiriyenko. Mr. Novikov was also an adviser and deputy to Sergei Kiriyenko in 1997-1998, when the latter headed the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of the Russian Federation, and in 2000-2004 - the first deputy of Mr. Kiriyenko, then holding the position of presidential envoy in the Volga Federal District.

But at Rosatom, the post of deputy general director offered to Sergei Novikov is only the third step of the hierarchical ladder. Sergei Kiriyenko has four first deputies in charge of key areas: Alexander Lokshin (operations), Ivan Kamenskikh (nuclear weapons complex), Nikolai Solomon (finance) and Kirill Komarov (development and international activities). Another four deputies are responsible for narrower areas, such as security (Konstantin Denisov) or innovation (Vyacheslav Pershukov). The heads of large industry companies of Rosatom - TVEL and Atomenergomash - who, like the deputy general directors, are on the board of the state corporation, also have a similar administrative weight. However, according to the managing partner of the Winner Partners agency Grigory Okun, in this case it is difficult to compare the significance of Mr. Novikov’s previous and new positions - due to his past experience of working together with Sergei Kiriyenko.

Read with this article:

Ilya was born in the Russian capital Moscow. It’s interesting that his dad is Russian and his mom is Ukrainian. This mixture of blood will still play a role in Ilya’s life, but more on that a little later.

While still at school, two hobbies come into the life of this boy, which in the future will affect his whole life. The first of them was reading books by Erle Stanley Gardner, which had a detective slant and talked about lawyer Perry Mason.

It is thanks to these literary works that Ilya decides that in the future he will become a lawyer. And so it happened - after finishing school, the young man entered the Russian Academy of Justice, which he graduated with flying colors in 2005.

The young man did not abandon his profession, immediately starting to practice law, and over time even becoming a teacher in advanced training courses for judges. True, this period does not last long, because running a legal practice takes more and more time.

By the way, Ilya still has a love for books - he reads a lot, sometimes his library is replenished with a dozen books a month!

The second hobby was the love for intellectual games in general and “What? Where? When?" in particular.

And his debut on television took place back in 1996, when the boy was taken to the filming of the “Wheel of History” program. Ilya failed to win then, but this fact did not break him.

In the same year, he appears on the site of “His Game” and loses again. True, on this TV show the future expert will play again and this time he will win two victories at once - in 2001 and 2002.

Player “What? Where? When?" Ilya becomes while studying at the academy, participating in competitions among students.

Then he tries himself in the sports version of ChGK, becomes the winner of the Russian Championship and, together with his entire team, in 2002 gets to watch an elite television show.

It should be noted that only Ilya is selected to participate in the program and he ends up on Marina Ufaeva’s team. True, that team did not win, but the young expert attracted the attention of the club management and television viewers.

Real success came to Novikov two years later - in 2004
. It was in the games of this season that he was recognized more than once as the best player of the team and was even awarded the Crystal Owl figurine.

In 2011, the expert was again chosen as a contender for this award, but he refused it, saying that the expert Grigory Alkhazov was more worthy of it. In 2014, Novikov was awarded the Crystal Owl without incident.

In parallel with his participation in the games of the elite club, Novikov continues to practice law, often takes on the brightest and even scandalous cases. So, in Ilya’s piggy bank:

  • Worked as a representative of the famous polymath Anatoly Wasserman in the case against the Mary Jane company, which used the intellectual’s photograph for its own commercial purposes without permission. As a result, Wasserman should receive compensation in the amount of 110 thousand rubles;
  • Defense of Tolyatti businessman Sergei Lektorovich in the case of an accident and the death of a pedestrian. It was thanks to Novikov’s ability to get to the bottom of the truth that the man, who came under public pressure, was sentenced to 3 years of actual imprisonment in a penal colony and a fine to the victims;
  • Defense of the odious figure of the Ukrainian military Nadezhda Savchenko, accused of complicity in the murder of two Russian journalists near Lugansk.

An interesting fact is that Savchenko’s defense led to the fact that in 2016, the host and producer of “What? Where? When?" Boris Kryuk made a decision to exclude Ilya Novikov from the list of experts at the elite club.

His statement also included an explanation for this step - the case is too politicized and the participation of a club expert in it on the side of the accused can be interpreted as meaning that the ChGK as a whole also supports her. But this is far from true!

Ilya left with his head held high and plunged into work. It should be noted that despite his status as a citizen of the Russian Federation, during this trial Novikov positioned himself as a Ukrainian (as mentioned above, his mother is Ukrainian) and allowed himself quite harsh political statements, which turned many against him.

It’s difficult to say how this will affect Ilya’s future fate.. It is important to note that fans of the game were split into two camps due to the exclusion of Novikov. Some agree with Hook's decision and support it, while others consider it absurd and completely unjustified. Among experts, the opinion is also ambiguous, but they are not in the mood to discuss it.

The personal life of the former expert is quite open, although he himself does not talk about it. It just so happened that at first he had a romantic relationship for a long time with another expert and, accordingly, a famous person, Elena Potanina.

And then he became the lover of another member of the elite club, Anastasia Shutova. He is now married to the latter.

An interesting point - the couple spent their honeymoon... at the North Pole! The couple notes that it was an unforgettable adventure. In 2015, Novikov and Shutova divorced.
